GCH worth it? Who's stayed there & would do so again?

Sorry to hijack this thread momentarily - but, I had a quick question. Is the pilates offered every morning? Do you know what time?

I think it was every other morning. Around 7:30 maybe? I'd have to look at the sheet I stashed away - where the heck did I put that.....

You could always call the hotel - these offerings could change a bit.

Thank you! I will give 'em a call. Although I say I am going to do things like that on vaca, but once I'm there I think, "ah, the walking around all day is good enough...I can eat that extra churrio, cookie, dole whip" haha

I have to totally disagree about DLH being only marginally better than an off-property motel. For me, anyway! I stayed at Hojos in Jan and it was a great deal at $59/night, but I'd rather pay the extra $90/night for DLH. There are so many perks, many of which YellowMickeyPonchos listed, but the biggest to me is never leaving the resort.

A fair point. Staying in the "land" is nice. In January when you can get rates like $149, it's definitely worth considering.

The first time I stayed there (last Oct.), I was so excited about going but ended up kind of disappointed. Our room was so far away from the lobby that it was a royal pain to navigate all of the looooong corridors + elevator to get in and out of our room. I figured if I ever went back, I'd be sure to request a room with no bunk beds (didn't like that room--small and didn't like the beds) and close to the lobby/elevators. We usually stay at DLH and we love it so we were prepared to go back to that property.

In Feb., I planned a trip with my mom, sister, and my 3 kids. We reserved 2 concierge rooms at DLH. A few days before our trip, DLR called to say the DLH concierge lounge would be closed during our stay so they moved us to GCH concierge, with rooms on the upper floor! WOW, was that ever cool!! I got a chance to discover the magic of that hotel that I hadn't been able to see the first time. Now I'm hooked! I really love DLH also, so I'm happy with either one, but I won't stay off property if I have a choice. The money is well worth it to me to stay at DLH or GCH, but we never go during peak times.

The only problem now is that I got TOTALLY spoiled by the GCH concierge lounge!! I doubt my dh will agree to staying there unless I secretly stash enough money to pay for it. Yeah, not likely.

I completely agree! Once you get spoiled by the Concierge Level it's hard to go back! During the Christmas Season, the carolers come into the Craftsman's Lounge and sing! It was beautiful!

We had a three night stay three weeks ago but it was a regular room, but with a premium view, so it was nice too! We are going back in three weeks, this time for three nights in Concierge! I cannot wait!

Whatever you choose you will have a great time!

I hope this an appropriate place to ask this?
What areas of the GCH do you all prefer? Is there a preferred floor or building that you could recommend. I booked a 5 night stay in a standard room starting the day after the 1/2 marathon. And I have NO idea how the hotel is set up or where the DCA entrance is, DTD entrance, etc. So, I could not begin to ask for a specific room area.

I'll be there the 6-9 of Sept so HI! I really like DTD view the best. I used to love the park view, but the trees are so tall now that it really distracts. It will be interesting to see the views from the DVC villas..can't wait for that!
Anyway, I like the DTD view because it's so pretty all lit up and you can hear the music and night and sit on the balcony with your $5.00 glass of wine.....
Frankly I have not found the hallways long or the trip to my room to ever be a big deal. Never had a bad room, never felt they were small or dark.

we just stayed at the GCH in april. after coming home, we agreed that we will always stay there. it was so worth it to us. the location was so good, it made it so easy to go back to the room, let the baby bounce around for awhile, take a nap, go for a swim, etc. the pool was awesome. seriously awesome.

the bunk beds were awesome. we cosleep with our kids, but on vacation, they slept in the bunk beds. they were so excited about them.

then on our last morning there, i went downstairs to get the stuff we bought the day before (they deliver it to your hotel, so you don't have to carry around the bags! seriously!) and saw chip and dale and everyone at storyteller's right there waving at us. it was so cute.

I am glad to hear that you did not feel the rooms were small and dark....that makes me very happy! I can't wait my turm to try GCH!

I won't repeat what everyone else said but weLOVE GCH! It is a wonderful hotel - very comfortable. We had a park view both times. I have stayed there twice but last week we stayed at the BW because I could not justify the price with the cut in my hours at work. We did go over and sit in the lobby. One of the staff was playing a guitar in the area with the fire place. I could not tell if it was a sing a long or not.

I have never even stayed there, but I am already . We are looking forward to our trip in June...Conceirge level!!

If anyone has and would be able to provide a recent copy of daily activities, that would be great. I know things could change and they are probably not the same everyday, but it would be good to know about what time of day they do the scavenger hunt, storytelling, etc. Sorry, but I am a planning nut .

Oh and BTW, does Conceirge contact you before your arrival to assist you with any dining plans, etc? I know they do at WDW.
