GC reservation help requested

O.k. I have been searching all the time trying to figure out which weekend to go in November and had decided on the 9th -13. Then I decided that might be too busy, plus husband said it would be better the week earlier. So now I go to check availability in the GC for the 2nd-6th and all that comes up is consierge. That makes it so much more expensive! How do I go about taking that reservation to assure I get in the hotel, but get a regular room if one comes available? I have not ever had anything like this come up before. I'd appreciate any help. I really had my hopes up for the GC. We live so far away and I will be in the parks with just the kids while my husband works. I just thought I'd pay extra for all the convenience of its location, but not the extra for consierge! How have you been trying to book, online yourself or through a TA.

We booked our GC/disneyland stay through AAA. We got an excellent package and a great deal.

Try getawaytoday.com. I had the same problem - none of the usual travel sites had any availability at the GC. My Sister told me she booked through them, and sure enough, they had availability. I guess they buy blocks of rooms.

The reservations come with tickets, but you can decline them (or upgrade them) during checkout.

I had been searching through the Disneyland site and AAA. I was planning on doing a AAA package to get their perks, and paying with my Disney Visa to get their perks. getaways.com shows nothing for GC either. I guess I'll wait til tomorrow to talk to a AAA agent. I don't think they're open on Sundays. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I'd talk to a AAA Travel Agent. We're leaving tomorrow and I got us moved from the DLH to the GC about 3 weeks ago. The one problem you could run into with AAA is downgrading. We weren't charged the $200 per package cchange charge because we were making a change that resulted in an increase in price. If your change resulted in a decrease i bet they would hit you with the charge.
You can always check with WDTC today. AAA books with them directly so if they have availibility you know. You can't book with them to get the AAA discount & perks, but you can at least talk to someone today. I've been hearing the the GC is booked and it just seems really odd. It shouldn't be that crowded in Nov. My DD's birthday is Nov. 17th and we usually go around then and it's never been a problem and it's always pretty uncrowded.
I agree with your reasoning for wanting the GC. That was our biggest reason for our stay this summer.
