Gay Week in Orlando??

The word "gay" is not politically correct.

Echoing what has been said so far - just schedule around the group.

We planned our first trip in 2000 and later found about about the Gay Day Festivities. We found that by avoiding the designated park, we avoided the main crowd problems. However, because Buzz Lightyear was closed all week and set to open again on Saturday, we did end up at MK on Saturday morning. It was crowded with huge numbers of people, including large numbers of men in red shirts (we noticed very few women for some reason). A few men were of the flaming/flambouyant type (including one man dressed as peter pan) and no real issues arose. There were some loud conversations overheard at the lunch table, but we just distracted the kids.

For our second trip in 2002, we arrived mid-day on Gay Day Saturday and simply stayed out of the parks. We did head for dinner at O'Hana and then to the Contemporary roof for fireworks. The Gay Day crowds were there, too. We headed to MK Sunday morning figuring that it would be less crowded - and we were right!

Just schedule around the crowd like you would any other large group (cheerleaders, marching bands, etc...) and just enjoy yourselves.

I think the fact that the organizers of the event call it Gay Day (gayday.com) pretty much eliminates any charges of political incorrectness for others using the term.

 Evidently I didn't get the memo. :p I see nothing "politically incorrect" with it. It's certainly much nicer than some other colloquial verbiage.

Not sure how it is at WDW, but we went to Kings Island during Gay Day in 1994.

We had no idea that this was taking place during our visit, but we quickly found out. The first thing that we noticed was that there were many people who were dressed unusual. We saw people wearing lots of beads and many dressed in leather. We did not think much of it. Later we saw men kissing and people who were half dressed.

We did not like it and complained. We got our money back and left. We read in the paper the next day that several people were asked to leave and one guy was arrested for indecent exposure.

I have not heard that this is typical at Disney, however.

No, that is not at ALL typical at Disney. I was there during Gay Days a few years ago. The only unusual clothing that Saturday at MK was a sea of red tshirts, so you know what we did? Bought a couple of red tshirts before the evening parade as a show of solidarity.
