Gap, Old Navy censor 'Christmas,'

But if there a repercussions for our actions with God/ a supreme being than this is not the direction we want to be heading toward.

Whew. Good thing that isn't the case.

Oh, really? I must have missed that Gallup study.

It's the same Gallup study that states 90% of Americans celebrate Christmas. :thumbsup2

And the one that says that "Happy Holidays" is going to bring the downfall of American society as we know it! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

How does saying "Happy Holidays" equate to wanting to ban Christmas?? :confused3 Maybe I need to get out more, I just don't get it.

No wait, I know. I've worked in that horrible liberal big city where not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas! :rotfl:

How many of those 90% are simply celebrating the secular aspects of the holiday? :confused3

I still don't understand how a greeting that is supposed to be a friendly phrase is somehow ruining people's celebrations??

It's not whether people's celebrations are ruined, because they certainly aren't. Why is it easy to accept the idea non-Christians are slighted when their holidays aren't recognized, but Christians aren't allowed to feel the same way? The problem isn't solved by ignoring all references to all holidays and going generic, that just slights everyone.

If a business wants to make money off religious holidays then they should have the class to acknowledge the holidays that they wish to profit from by name.

As a christian, it does not bother me that they use the word 'holidays', as there are several holidays this season...

Nothing can take away from the spirit of Christmas if it is in your heart.

Btw, they are not censoring anything. It is not the Christmas season for all of their customers.

I agree! It amazes me that anyone would be offended by being told Happy Holidays rather then Merry Christmas. Seriously - if you are offended by this then you don't have enough in your life to worry about.

Here, let me draw this out for you:
.......................Happy Holidays
.........../....................| ...............\
.....Hanukkah........Christmas............Kwanzaa

See? Happy Holidays is inclusive of Christmas. Christmas is a holiday, so it falls under "Holidays". See how that isn't ignoring anything?

Except for the fact that some 90% of the shoppers are celebrating Christmas...

Similarily, about the same ammount would be shopping for Christmas gifts. I would think the store might be a little upset if everyone who celebrated Christmas decided to shop somewhere else.

You can dance around the fact, or try to be as PC as you want, but the numbers don't change. "Other religions" make up about 5% of the population. Sure you can have a few things that celebrate their religions too (nothing wrong with that), but the fact of the matter is that you aren't escaping Christmas if you live in North America so you might as well live with it. I assume with your thought process we should print all our signs in 200 languages too? After all...there are many other languages then just English (or even Spanish) being spoken in America and we wouldn't want to 'offend' them...

Got a verifiable cite for those numbers?

Taking this logic a step further, I guess Disney should cancel the annual CHRISTMAS parade they broadcast on 12/25, and replace it with a completely non-denominational "HOLIDAY" parade held on...well, whenever. You know, just like the "fall festivals" that many schools are now running to replace that dangerous, evil holiday called Halloween.

In fact, while they're at it, they should take down all those CHRISTMAS trees they have all over WDW and replace them with some sort of non-denominational "HOLIDAY" signage. After all, we don't want to insult all the non-Christians/non-religious who flock to WDW at CHRISTMASTIME with that horrific christian iconography.

Yep, getting rid of all that CHRISTMAS stuff wouldn't bother anyone....

Isn't the starting date a little late for the annual "war on Christmas" BS? I could've sworn it started earlier last year. ;)

Btw, Happy Holidays beats FOAD anyday.

An overwhelming majority of Americans supports allowing nativity scenes on public property. However, a smaller number — but still a clear majority — thinks if Christian holiday symbols are placed on public property that other religious symbols, such as a Jewish menorah (search), must also be displayed.

The latest FOX News poll finds that fully 87 percent of Americans say nativity scenes should be allowed on public property and only nine percent disagree. The poll, conducted by Opinion Dynamics Corporation, also finds 61 percent believe that if Christmas symbols are displayed that symbols from other religions should also be included. Less than a third of Americans (28 percent) approve of displaying Christian symbols on public property without recognizing other religions.

Almost all Americans celebrate Christmas (96 percent), while five percent say they celebrate Hanukkah and two percent the December holiday of Kwanzaa (search) (multiple responses were accepted).

Resisting the temptation to overindulge in holiday cookies and candy can be a challenge. Four in 10 Americans (41 percent) say they will not even try to resist and plan to "eat and drink whatever" they want during the holidays, while half say they plan to try to eat healthy, "but enjoy some holiday treats." Only seven percent plan to "completely stick to the diet."

Disney's CHRISTMAS parade is secular.
Why would non Christians be offended by Christmas trees? Christmas trees, like most of the Xmas traditions, are PAGAN in origin

Percentages of American adults identifying themselves with a specific religion:

Christian - 76.5%
Jewish - 1.3%
Muslim - 0.5%

Any other faith you can name is less than 0.5%

Source:

Religious Identification in the U.S.

Bottom line Mugg: the ratio of people celebrating Christmas vs. other year end religious holidays is in the range of 70 to 1. Retailers who are afraid to say "Christmas" aren't worried about "insulting" the microsopic percentage of those celebrating a different faith. Rather, they are have been cowered into burying the "C" word by a teeny-weeny niche of the PC left that hates organized religion in general and Christianity in particular.

Let me tell you something. I'm celebrating the gift-giving/overeating/overdecorating Christmas. I am not celebrating the "Happy Birthday, Jesus" variety.

Good grief, can't people even enjoy Christmas in peace anymore. What a bunch of crepe hangers.

Hell, I'm celebrating both! :thumbsup2 Even despite the best efforts of the evil liberals. ;)
