Gap, Old Navy censor 'Christmas,'

As a christian, it does not bother me that they use the word 'holidays', as there are several holidays this season...

Nothing can take away from the spirit of Christmas if it is in your heart.

Btw, they are not censoring anything. It is not the Christmas season for all of their customers.

I agree. The reason for the season is not going to be found in a Gap sweater but rather in your own heart.

"a small gift" indeed! What a bunch of hogwash. I'm sure if the daughter of AFA's board wanted a Holiday dress from the GAP, she'd have it. lol!

This, of course, is the same man who was quoted as saying "God almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew."

You will pardon me if I lump him with Fred Phelps, James Dobson, and other such?

What a steaming pile of hooey. The religious right is looking for things to feel persecuted about again. Whaaaa.

Other than if the intention is to remove Christ out of Christmas. We have holidays we celebrate throughout the year, the main holiday of the year is Christmas, to celebrate Jesus' birth. These retailers are trying to capitalize off Christmas--are they not? Are they getting rich off any other holiday anytime of the year? Dont think so. Christmas is there bread and butter--yet many dont want to upset a very small percentage by keeping Christ in Christmas.
Actually the main holiday for Christians is Easter, the day Jesus rose from the dead.

I did contact them - to let them know we support them - and to tell them not to give into the tactics of a group like AFA!!!!!!
I did, too, and just want to add, that instead of using their form, you can scroll down to the bottom, to the last line under "additional contact information" gives a clickable link to Don Fisher's e-mail address. I felt more comfortable clicking there and using my own e-mail to contact him. I wouldn't be surprised if AFA checked the e-mails written using it's own form, and didn't forward along those with opposing views.

No pardon needed. Lump away!

Gap, Old Navy censor 'Christmas,' replace it with 'Holiday'

Gap, which owns Old Navy, Banana Republic, Forth & Towne and Piperlime, has become the latest politically correct retailer, intentionally censoring the use of "Christmas" in their in-store, online and printed advertising.

Instead of referring to the season as Christmas, Gap instead uses the word "holiday." As hard as we tried, AFA could not find a single instance in which Gap-owned stores use the term "Christmas." Not a single time!

When one Old Navy store manager was asked by AFA if the word Christmas was in his store, he answered, "We have a lot of Christmas gifts in our stores, but the word Christmas is not used here. Everything is 'holiday.'"

Gap wants you to do your Christmas shopping with them, but they don't want to mention the Reason for the season. Gap doesn't want to offend non-Christians by using Christmas. The fact that their censoring the use of Christmas might offend Christians seems to be of no importance.

Wow...please, anyone who really wants to put some "meaning" into the holiday season (Christmas or whatever), send money to people who really need it. Not silly, over-dramatized campaigns to get retailers to stick a manger on a t-shirt or something.

This is ridiculous.

I agree with poohandwendy 100% -- making Christmas less commerical is a good thing, not a bad thing. I think tying sales to Christmas diminishes rather than enhances the real reason for the holiday.

I wish the people and organizations who get upset about "Happy Holidays" would consider putting their time and energy toward something significant. It's not like the stores using "Merry Christmas" are doing anything other than trying to increase their profits.

Exactly!

I just emailed Don too and thanked him!

Oh no! Christmas is under attack! If Gap employees don't tell me "Merry Christmas" that must mean that Jesus was never even born! Everything I have ever believed has vanished! I'm so lost and confused.

Maybe I can find salvation over at the Wal-mart.

I am sort of LOL at the irony of this thread because the one thing I dislike about this time of year is the empasis on material things. So, to me...it's sort of nice that they don't call it Christmas sales. Because that is not what Christmas is all about, for me. I would rather the holiday be about more than what is under the tree, to be honest.

I'd have to agree. Christmas is way too commercialized anyway. If they don't want to say it, then whatever. Again, it's not like they meant Christ when they said Christmas before. Frankly, it may do us all some good when stores aren't "supporting Christmas" if you will. It isn't supposed to be about gifts.

Btw, they were never, ever promoting Christ before when they called it a Christmas sale...they were making money. It's business. Let me know when they refuse sales to Christians. Then I will be up in arms.

:rotfl: Funny, but well said.

Guess Bill O'Reilly is their only ally.

I find it really ironic that they are accusing these stores of 'censoring' Christmas when half of their work has been to censor television shows that they don't approve of.

Hello pot?
Yes.
This is kettle. You're black.

Oh is that the same old lame whining from the religious right about their oppression? :rolleyes1 Give me a freakin' break...the world does not revolve around you.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BULL

The intent is to include those of other faiths and beliefs not to exclude .

Good grief, don't forget Crate and Barrel, too.

If "Happy Holidays" somehow diminishes your faith this season,it was probably on shaky ground anyway.

As a habit I have said "Happy Holidays" around this time of year...it not only includes Thanksgiving , Christmas, and Nyw Years, but Chaunakah (sp) as well. I am saddened at the thought that my warmly offered wish of Happy Holidays - would be taken as an anti Christian sentiment - saddened and disgusted at the same time.

War on Christmas ----- what a bunch of hogwash.

Again, nicely put!!!

Big yawn. The stores are just making nice with the broad spectrum of their customers' beliefs. Most Christians are normal, realize that there isn't just Christmas in December and therefore don't give a rip. It's the nutjobs who want a theocracy and think the majority religion is under attack who care.
