Gap, Old Navy censor 'Christmas,'

9. State how many times you've laughed in the past 10 years: (a) once, (b) more than once but not more than thrice, (c) more than thrice but not more than five times, (d) can't recall.

Actually, I think this one is funny. I would love to see how some of the people in my office answer it. They are so perpetually miserable about everything that I bet they would all answer D.

I know people like that too, but their winter holiday celebrations are as varied as anyone else's. So while I might laugh if it was a "grumpy people" survey, I still can't find any humor in it here.

And actually, I see D as the best answer to that one. There's no way I could recall how many times I've laughed over the last 10 years... countless times. :)

I agree - that kind of miserable knows no religious bounds...

and again, they are missing the point - it isn't about the supposed 5% that are "offended"...it isn't about being offended or hating Christmas - it is about the great number of people out of the 95% (Christians and non-Christians alike!!!!) that simply feel inclusion/consideration/tolerance are better options

but, of course, it suits them to take it to the lowest common denominator - pertinent or not....

Hmm....you disagree therefore you must have mental illness(es)? I'm thinking the author of this "joke" hasn't read how to win friends and influence people. I figure if I'm trying to win someone over to my position, calling them Hitler or mentally ill aren't winning strategies.

I agree with that and maybe someone should say it to the far left as well. They seem to have no problem calling all religous people ignorant facists.

Let the left keep doing it. It is good for the right when the left calls them Hitler or dumb or hayseeds or 'necks or whatever. When I hear someone start putting down their opponent like this, I tend not to buy what they're trying to sell.

I've never heard of the Catholic League or that Donahue fellow. We may agree on many things, but if I ever hear him speaking on this or that topic, I'm not going to take him seriously. It's unfortunate that he has a public forum purporting to represent some segment of the "right." I don't want him as my spokesperson.

Donohue isn't funny. He's a pompous gasbag who ought to be told to shut his blowhole.

And some religious people are ignorant fascists ............ which brings us back to Donohue. But, Donohue isn't just another private citizen with a cross-shaped chip on his shoulder. He is the head of the Catholic League, and as such, represents the Catholic League. Begs the question: Is the Catholic League as ignorant as it's head?

And, frankly, I'm sick of this entire made-up "war on Christmas". However, it does provide some of the fiercest "war on Christmas" warriors the opportunity to exhibit the most "unChristmas-like" behavior and Donohue is no exception. He's right up there with the rest of the "war on Christmas" Hall of Shame namely Limbaugh and O'Reilly. One can't enough hillbilly heroin and the other can't get enough loofahs.

And have a Merry Christmas.

And some liberals are nasty snobs that enjoy insulting others to prove their own intellectual superiority. Begs the question-are all liberals nasty snobs? Of course not.

As Oxfordcircus said, I'm not buying what they're selling once the name calling starts-and I lose respect for ANYONE doing it.

Namecalling or not, there are some people who really are ignorant, and Donohue is a pompous blowhard who should told, as the head of the Catholic League, to shut his pie hole. Doubly so when what he's bloviating over is ......... Christmas.

This gets wackier every year.

I am sort of LOL at the irony of this thread because the one thing I dislike about this time of year is the empasis on material things. So, to me...it's sort of nice that they don't call it Christmas sales. Because that is not what Christmas is all about, for me. I would rather the holiday be about more than what is under the tree, to be honest.

No kidding. What does The Gap have to do with Christmas?

What would one consider "snobish"?

a) Excepting a "happy holidays" greeting when entering a business, saying thank you(or other) and then having a nice Holiday(whatever one you choose)

b) Insisting that a business use a more specific greeting, and anything less is considered an attack on the specific holiday.

This post is all inclusive.

I have been called some pretty nasty things by some liberals at the office or at other functions (not on this board, thankfully) because I'm Catholic. I've been told that "only ignorant people believe in God and no self respecting college educated woman would be a member of the Catholic Church" and other less memorable insults. I do NOT assume that all liberals are like that, anymore than all Christians are like Pat Robertson.
I find the whole Happy Holidays thing generic and boring. The holiday starting on Friday evening is Chanukah, the holiday on December 25th is Christmas-what is such a crime about saying the words and really celebrating diversity?

"Fascism: a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism."

This term is worse than the Hitler references, primarily because few people really know what it means and even fewer use it correctly (not suggesting this of you, Luvduke). It certainly has a shock factor, but only because of its association with Hitler's Italian toady. But what does its use really add to the debate? Just puts people on the defensive for being mischaracterized.

Pointing out that you misspelled "Accepting". That's snobbish.

I a Catholic, and a liberal. So I guess that makes me an IGNORANT SNOB :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

"Generic and boring", maybe it is. Nobody said it was a CRIME to use any greeting, sure would I prefer a more specific greeting. But I do not feel it is insulting or an attack on me, my family, or religon if a private BUSINESS decides to use a GENERIC greeting.

I feel any freindly greeting from a retail worker is welcomed and when in stores during the mad rush to the finish line, it reminds me to smile and say thank you.

Blame UCLA, I am pretty sure some liberals can spell.

EDIT function is not working for me, so before it is pointed out(AGAIN)...
I apoligize for my lack of proofing skills and for this additional needless post.

Hmm...I'm pretty "far left" and I'm a Christian. I don't think of myself as ignorant or a facist. I'm guessing you didn't actually mean to do the very thing you're arguing against - stereotyping.
