We picked our last home because it had a pool table and dh even brought his own stick, but we were so busy, we never touched it, LOL.

The kids used the air hockey table a few times and I was so paranoid that the disk would fly up and break something or put a dent in the wall. It was in the garage, but still, the house was so new and spotless!!! We sent them out there a lot when they were loud or wet from the pool, but cold from the air conditioning, LOL. Oh, and we wouldn't let them near the pool table because I was afraid they'd rip the cloth.

I guess, I'd have to say that a games room is a great selling point, but the upkeep might be costly???

Pinball is my fav! :thumbsup2

My parents put one in their game room just for me!! :cloud9: They also have a pool table, fooshball (sp) table, card table and a pachinco (sp) machine, tv and a stereo just a few ideas.

I tried to chose all but the darts - too dangerous.

I voted Air Hockey but only because I'm awful at the rest! Pinball would be cool!

You'll be renting to families with younger kids, so I'd plan for things that can stand up to the abuse. A pool table is tricky, because kids tend to ruin the felt. (Adults do, too, when they leave drinks on the rail and then tip them over.) Regular dart boards are a bad idea, but mark darts (the "soft tip" kind with the plastic boards w/holes) could work. Over time, the tips will break off in the board, but the boards are inexpensive enough that you can repalce them periodically. Buy extra darts. Air hockey and foosball tables are usually pretty sturdy; plan to buy an extra bunch of pucks/balls for them.

Pinball tables are fun, nearly indestructable, but expensive.

I voted for air hockey and a pool table. What I've seen in some game rooms that appeals to me are a couple of computers with high speed internet access; like a little internet cafe.

I picked air hockey and soccer table, and one of those basketball net games would be great too:)

The pool table is a nightmare if you have little kids - ripping the felt, whacking each other with the sticks :teeth: , etc

Some posters on the wall would be kinda fun, too:)

HTH!

One thing to consider for a game room might be some seating. I saw one home tour that had a cute booth for people to sit at but that would probably be pricey. I was thinking maybe a small bistro or pub table where others could sit while a game of pool or air hockey was going on. Lots of places have them at a reasonable price and it's nice to sit after a day of standing. Others could also play cards or a board game or just have a cold drink and relax. A radio/cd player would be nice as well.

A pool table seems essential - if I saw a home advertised with a games room and it didn't have one, I wouldn't consider it to be a games room. Just about expectations, I guess. Air hockey is good fun. Table tennis would be great, too, but I don't think you should try to pack too much in - no point having a pool table if there's insufficient space around it.

I agree with the comment about seating. I spend hours (days, weeks  ) trawling the internet for the 'right' villa each trip. I discount most without seating in the games room. Having said that, I am very fussy - I prefer games rooms which are within the home rather than converted garages.

Have you found many Deb that arent in the garage...why do you prefer?
Id be scared of breaking a window if in a room in the house!?

I just found one with air hockey, pool, fooseball, electronic darts, slots, and a jukebox. Hate to be a spoiled brat, but I wish it had a pinball machine.

No, Lynn - hardly any! :teeth: I suppose because I've been renting villas for several years and I always want something 'better' than the previous one. In my experience it's only the most upmarket homes which have the games rooms as part of the house. I really am getting too fussy. Each time I add one more 'must have' to my list. In some ways I wish I was embarking on my first trip with no expectations and simple needs. :goodvibes

The home we stayed at in January had an upstairs games room complete with a huge flat screen TV and a balcony overlooking the 8th hole of the Tom Watson course at Reunion. It's not available for our October trip, but after months of searching, I've eventually found a home on Reunion which I'm happy with. Until our January stay, I was happy with a converted garage as long as it had been properly converted (i.e. it didn't look like the inside of a garage when you were inside it). Now, not even that will do. So far, I've managed to resist the lure of home cinema rooms - I really don't need another 'must-have' to add to my already ridiculously long list.

Big fan of pinball and multi game arcade classics. We just don't use our pool table much.

I wanna vacation with you!!! :woohoo:

I won't do "lumpy" (DH says I don't want to hurt anyone's feeling's by saying a house looks "dumpy" :teeth: ) But some houses can be...really lumpy looking....when we first considered villas for our accomodations, lumpy was okay.

Not anymore!! :goodvibes

Let us know what you pick, Isla Bonita!!:)
