IMG_7560.JPG hi all!! Currently on the Wonder anchored a few miles offshore. Fog so heavy that no ships can get in. 40 ships waiting to enter port but we will be first. We are approx 1.5 hrs from port. Once the pilot master boards we still have to get to port and then wait approximately an hour for ship to clear

They will be serving lunch to us and they estimate we will be in port around 1 but that is looking doubtful. We keep getting updates from the captain. Our flight is not until 6 pm but many have missed flights already. Our car service is monitoring the situation so they will know when to come to port

Tons of tankers waiting to get into port. Visibility is horrible.

They will be debarking people by luggage tag color but dont know what order. We can stay in public areas or our cabins. They are showing movies in both theatres and kids clubs are all open houses. They are really trying to keep people happy.

Have not seen any meltdowns luckily. GS is trying to help with travel arrangements but don't know how much they can do.

That's it for me for now. Anyone boarding today be patient. It won't happen for hours yet

MJ

This was exactly why they left Galveston. The time frame they sail out of Galveston is the worst for fog. Sorry OP you are getting the worst part of the port. Hopefully they are able to get in soon and docked so you don't miss your flight. Are you flying out of Hobby or Bush?

I was thinking "so cool you get to stay on ship!" but not like that, not much fun there. 37 cruises! wow.

You guys have had quite an eventful trip!! I was on the Wonder cruise right before yours, and we got pretty lucky in regards to weather. Then some from my meet group heard about your weather early on - goodness, did that change over quickly from the nice weather we had. Eek! Enjoy your extra time. We flew back the day everything was happening in Ft. Lauderdale, plus that was the tail end of winter break, and getting through security at Hobby was still a breeze. I wouldn't worry about crazy lines too much.

That was how it was on embarkation day for us for the Dec. 23rd sailing... we did not get on the boat until 3:30 pm. I was so afraid we'd get fogged in on debarkation day as we had a three day drive home back to California. Luckily, it was just cloudy.

Yep, same exact thing happened to us aboard the Magic EXACTLY FOUR YEARS AGO, January 12, 2013! I guess it's very common. This is when trip insurance pays off. We spent an exceedingly unpleasant 5 - 6 hours in the lobby of Guest Services on disembarkation day desperately trying to find a land line that worked. It was a very, very unpleasant experience. For people who drive or are flying out the next day, I know it was no biggie for them.. We were uncertain if we would miss our flight bc of the fog delay and were trying to find a flight out that night but could not. We finally were able to book a connecting flight through Chicago back to PHL for the next day. It was the never-ending travel delay. Our trip insurance paid our hotel that night (again, very hard to book with a few hours notice and no reliable phone service) and paid for all the changes to our flights the next day. But there happened to be an ice storm in Chicago (it is early January!) so more delays there. So long story short, we would have been out thousands if we didn't have trip insurance! Hope you are moving soon!

Is the fog in Galveston a winter issue? Or is it a problem for the port generally?

I hope you make your flight tonight, OP!

We're waiting to get on, bummed of course, but nothing we can do!

Mostly a winter thing but I remember growing up fog seemed like a half a year problem in all honesty. My grandpa worked out there a couple times a month (was based out of Houston Ship Channel but sometimes had to go check something in Galveston) and the fog reports were something he got me use to watching every day.

Good luck MJ. If anyone can stay positive about this it's you!

How do you like the re-imagined Wonder?

Oh yeah. Last night at like 9:00 I took my dog outside and it was already hazing over pretty bad. This morning at 6 we didn't have any fog left but we live about 30 minutes away in Seabrook. This is our normal weather. Fog. Warm. Not warm. Muggy.

Reservation #:

Dear Angela,

We are contacting you with an update related to your sailing today.

Earlier this morning, the port of Galveston, Texas, was experiencing heavy fog and the channel between the terminal and the Gulf of Mexico was closed to all inbound and outbound vessel traffic.

The port has reopened and the Disney Wonder is in the process of docking. Once the onboard Guests have disembarked, boarding for today's sailing will begin.

As a result of this weather delay, Guests should postpone their arrival to the terminal building by at least five (5) hours after their selected port arrival time, but no later than 7:00 p.m. today.

We know you were expecting to enjoy lunch onboard today. We are issuing each Guest a shipboard credit of $25 per person so that you may eat lunch prior to your arrival to the port area.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this unexpected delay and look forward to welcoming you onboard later today.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew
Disney Cruise Line
