🏗️ A new resort near Magic Kingdom? A fifth gate after 2035? 7,000+ new hotel rooms?

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s Comprehensive Plan 2045 just dropped — and while nothing is confirmed, it lays the groundwork for major Walt Disney World expansion. But what does it mean for DVC’s future? 🏰📈

We’re breaking it all down here:

I would think if they add 7000+ new rooms they would almost HAVE to add a 5th gate.

Wow. That would help with thinning the crowds at other parks.

LAX

This is all the same things that RCID tried to give WDW control over before FL took control of RCiD. We are looking decades into the future for most of this stuff and Universal has already filed plans to expand Epic Universe. Frankly WDW should put some focus on its parks and ride maintenance. Tons of rides down consistently last week making lines even longer with all the rides they have closed for refurbishment.

I've never understood the fascination with getting a 5th park, 4 is plenty if they make AK actually good and actually increase rides/capacity at the other parks vs just replacing stuff.
Actually I agree with you.

One problem with adding to AK is the early closing time most of the year for the animals.

The Disney Dish podcast a few weeks ago had an interesting take on permit applications for updates to Western Way by Blizzard Beach. They suspect a new DVC is planned for available land across from Coronado Springs that could connect the skyliner from the Studios to Blizzard Beach, Coronado, and on to Animal Kingdom. I think that location would be awesome.

Ak used to be one of my favorite parks but on recent trip it’s hard to justify going even with 2 week stay. My youngest kid is 3 and she is tall enough for total of 2 rides in the entire park. My 5 year old is not much better with grand total of 4 rides. Now I know they have some additional entertainment and all but that is ludicrous to me. Combined with the ridiculously early closing time and literally only reason we ended up going was for some food I wanted to eat.

This was all with us not staying at AKV. We stay AKV lots and honestly feel with lack of rides most of the draw of AK (food, animals, culture) gets met just as well at AKV so I honestly would not plan any AK time for our next AKV trip and that is sad to me.

After having been to Europa Park, I just really can't understand how Disney builds an entire land with only 2 rides. The economics of that are crazy, it makes everyone walk extremely far between rides, and it means crowds have nowhere to go. Pandora - The World of Avatar should have had a minimum of 4 rides, even if 2 of them were "throwaway" rides that simply absorb crowds.

There's more to theme parks than just rides. There are shows, food, live entertainment, and in the case of Animal Kingdom endless animal viewing opportunities. It's not a "Castle Park" for a reason. Although it seems like in recent years, Disney seems to be trying to turn all of their parks into Castle parks with very little regard to their original intent.

AK is dead to me since they got rid of the Tarzan Rocks! show and Primeval Whirl. Why, Disney, why?

You mean "the Spin Cycle"?

In our family, we always referred to it as Primeval Hurl, but only jokingly. We used to purposefully unbalance the car to get the best spin possible. And if you really want to get fancy with the spinning, you need to go back in time to Francis' Ladybug Boogie at DCA, where if you put the heaviest people on either side of the door, you *really* get it moving.

The next future DVC resort should be in California…. Florida doesn’t seem to have enough theme park capacity for the rooms they already have…. if they do build a FL park… maybe an indoor park so people have somewhere to go that’s not miserable in the summer….

Anyone listen to the Disney Dish Podcast? Len Testa strongly hinted recently that there could be new DVC developments in the space between the Epcot resorts and AK, with a skyliner expansion. There is a massive area near Western Way that could be slated for this expansion. Disney is investing major money in an expansion of the roads here and Len is hinting that there's a reason.

If this is true, I can see them investing in an AK expansion to make it more than a half-day park. It would also be great to see the skyliner expanded to this area!

(Map below: Blue area is where Len hinted that DVC resorts would be built. Actually, I drew it poorly - expand that circle bigger and further north. AK is to the left of this blue circle. Green line is existing skyliner to HS. Red line is expansion of skyliner to AK.)
