Future DVC Resort Plans

There will be no new DVCs in CA as long as they are so tax heavy. I personally would like to see some more themed DVC resorts like the older ones. The new ones are just nice hotels like Marriott or Hilton, very little Disney there at all. I would like a Pirate themed or Haunted Mansion themed DVC myself. Either of those would fit well with the new Villeins land.

I think if they do extend the skyliner, the extension will be from the turning station at Buena Vista Drive near the Speedway gas station. They'll basically convert that turning station into a full transfer station like at Caribbean Beach, and the new Skyliner route will basically run along Buena Vista Drive to Animal Kingdom park, probably adding a stop for Coronado Springs.

The problem with that is a guest would have to transfer (and queue) multiple times to get to their destination. That sort of takes the convenience out of it to me.

And if they add more resorts to the Skyliner (especially huge resorts like Coronado Springs or the All-Stars), that means lines at each station will get even longer at the end of the night.

Unlike buses and boats (and maybe monorails), they can't really add more capacity to the Skyliner when demand is highest. They can't add more gondolas for the after-fireworks or the rope drop rushes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Disney build resorts at Villains Land, complete with a back entrance to Magic Kingdom.

That makes sense location wise, but I don’t think they would shut down that Skyliner line for that long to build that.

Yeah. For many locations and forms of Disney transportation, the only convenience of it is saving $$ over renting a car / rideshare. It IS fun though!

This is what I'm hopeful for as it could be an incredible addition to DVC and that park. I'm already trying to figure out how to convince my wife that we NEED points at the Villains Land Resort. I think I have a problem. 🤣

I would say that typically the Skyliner (and any method of transportation that gets you to the Magic Kingdom instead of just the TTC) is a strong exception to that rule. But generally, I agree.

Having a back gate could break the immersion of Magic Kingdom, but that ship has probably already sailed years ago anyway.

The plan that Len hinted at is that the skyliner would simply be extended from HS to AK. It would stop along the way at Coronado/Blizzard Beach, and the rumoured new DVC resorts in that area. No need for extra transfer or turning stations. No need for a completely separate line. This was the mapped picture I showed earlier.

-When coming from CB area, get off for HS or continue and get off for Coronado/Blizzard Beach/new DVC resorts, or continue and get off for AK.
-When coming from AK, exact same as above but in reverse.

I'm not sure that Disney would want the Skyliner sailing over Hollywood Studios and all the backstage/office space behind the park. But maybe?

No different than going over that stuff on the corner of Epcot I’d think.

I was surprised by Len’s hints but he is usually “in the know.” And it makes perfect sense with the huge expansion to Western Way.

I think extending the skyliner to DAK was part of the initial plan of the project, but it got canned because of COVID. It may eventually be resurrected. I'm just not convinced it's going to fly over office space and parking decks. Yeah the backstage areas of EPCOT are pretty bad I agree. I also think that making DHS a pass-through stop like Riviera could be a major issue and lead to huge bottlenecks.

Staying at Riviera, I often have to wait for 4 or 5 gondolas to pass before one has space for my family to get on - and let's be honest, Riviera is a fairly small resort all things considered. Imagine that at the busy DHS stop, with gondolas passing by that are full from DAK and Coronado guests. It would make the Skyliner so much less convenient with long waits to get a gondola, even at off-peak times.

And God forbid they tie in the All-Stars. They would have to rebuild the entire project into an omnimover to have a hope of it having enough capacity.

I personally can't see them creating a loading station somewhere that isn't based within/at a park or resort. I feel there is too much opportunity for bad actors at that point- not that there is the most rigorous screening in place to get to the locations that exist now, but at least they're all in the bubble and not as open to the public.

It would be less open to the public than the TTC is. It wouldn't be a loading station, purely a transfer station.

True. Could be that they do a transfer station instead of pass through at HS.

Yes, I read that multiple times while the current Skyliner was under construction, before COVID. I think it makes sense given how many more guests it could carry per hour than buses can. And I believe DHS would be a transfer station like CBR is - much more efficient than a pass through like RIV.
