I'm so excited to be staying at AoA September 23-29 because its my first time on Disney Property! I really don't know anything about other resorts so I'd like to do some exploring in my free time. I'm going to Poly on the morning of my travel day to have breakfast and toodle around, so that should be fun. I know AoA does movies at night. Do other resorts do fun things that you can go to (I know pools are off limits)? I could do Downtown Disney but I'd rather enjoy the views at other resorts. :)

Grand Floridian is a 10 minute or so walk from Poly so you could swing by and check that out after breakfast if you choose. I believe most resorts have movie nights. All restaurants have a good restaurant or two so you could plan more ADR's at the resorts which give you a great reason to go and experience them.

I would suggest that you check out the Boardwalk at the Boardwalk Inn (preferably in the evening when it's twinkling with lights!). There is a dueling piano bar called Jellyrolls and a dance hall (Atlantic Dance Hall). You could stop in the Boardwalk Bakery for a sweet or just stroll around and watch the performers out on the Boardwalk.

I have never been to a Disney resort that isn't unique and beautiful, with loads of activities for guests. You should check out all the resort sites to see which ones appeal to you most. I could spend an entire 10 day vacation just exploring and enjoying the resorts.

So far, my faves are:
Animal Kingdom Lodge (watch the African animals, enjoy the African art and decor, eat African food, speak with an African CM about, well, Africa )
Fort Wilderness (ride a bike, ride a horse, take a wagon ride, visit with the Disney horses, enjoy Chip and Dale campfire, watch fireworks on the beach)
POR (rent a bike, explore the grounds, take a boat to DD and back again, walk to POFQ and grab some beignets)
Poly (I especially love exploring the grounds at night with the tiki torches burning and the soft music playing)
GF (listen to the pianist or the band, have some tea, ride the monorail to CR and Poly)
Beach Club (gorgeous lobby, enjoy entertainers on the Boardwalk, eat at Cape May)

I would ride the monorail loop and explore those deluxe MK resorts. And also walk around the BW area, and visit BW, Yacht and Beach resorts. Perhaps take a small boat from either MK or the Contemporary to visit Wilderness Lodge.
