We've stayed at the Ft Wilderness Cabins before.

What we really loved was the deck, privacy and the grill.
We especially liked the fact that we could be outside on the deck late into the night while the kids were sleeping.....we didn't have to be cooped up 10 floors high in a hotel.

So...my question...are there other Home Away From Home resorts that I should look at that have the same features as Ft Wilderness....

The other home away from home hotels are DVC...and each are part of a hotel...unlike Fort Wilderness with is a camp ground

Each one has it's own theme.....wilderness lodge and Old Key West have a more secluded feel...but it is still a hotel so you would be sitting on a balcony not a deck if you want to go outside and sit during the evening....

We are DVC owners and love our Boardwalk resort...

We have stayed at FW & own at OKW.

Differences:

--Decks at FW are much larger than the patios at the DVC's.
--There isn't a grill for each unit at the DVC
--DVC units are much larger than the cabins
--If you rent points from a DVC owner you will not get daily housekeeping service like you do in a cabin, however, I believe if you make a ressie through CRO you would get daily housekeeping.
--1BR & 2BR DVC units have a washer & dryer in them.
--At OKW you can pull up to the building you are in which may be close to your door, or may not be. At FW you always pull right up to your unit if you have your own car. At the other DVC units you park in the parking lot & walk into the "hotel" type setting & then go to your unit.

Honestly, we enjoy both places (FW & OKW) for many different reasons. They each have their own magic about them. :p

Guess you just have to decide for yourself. Two weeks ago we split a stay-5 nights in a 2 BR at OKW, followed by 2 nites in the FW Cabins. I really enjoyed them both, although I missed having more than one TV when we got to FW. DH on the other hand, was very unhappy at FW, he missed OKW terribly. BTW, we'd stayed at FW approximately 10 years ago, on 3 different visits (trailer homes then) and both loved it then. So you can ask people with identical experiences, and get differing opinions on what's better.
