Ft. Wilderness Cabins becoming DVC?

I actually agree it’s likely Disney makes these more points then 1bedroom. I’m just saying I can’t see it being popular if they do and and it is a complete no go for me (who loves fort wilderness) if they do that.

Anyone can look up what these costs today on cash market and see the value of this location and room category is not on par with even the cheapest 1br currently in dvc and is actually not even on par with most studios.
Totally agree with you on current value. I just feel that Disney is going to use the refurb / replace as an excuse to give them way more 'perceived value.'

I'd guess the points will be similar to the treehouses, although it could be argued that the location is better given the boat to MK (not sure I agree but it's def an 'MK resort'). I hope they structure the points so that pet-friendly rooms are a higher point value like with the concierge rooms at AK as opposed to paying a daily $ fee.

The only way I can see them removing bunks from the bedroom and still fitting 6 people is if they have a Murphy bed and two sleeping chairs in the living room. I guess it could be done, but it seems tight. I would love it if they did it that way and squeezed a king into the bedroom and a laundry closet somewhere.
I could also see them doing murphy bunk beds like in their Cruise Ship Cabins instead of sleeper chairs...

The thing that sticks out for me is the lack of mention of a laundry room. If I'm in the equivalent of a 1 bedroom, I want that washer & dryer. I suppose they could add small ones right in the kitchen which isn't unheard of, but if I have to drag my laundry out to another building and I'm using the same, or close to, points level as other 1 bedrooms - no thanks. I am still intrigued if for no other reason than renting a golf cart.

I agree.

Also, I’ll rent an RV or tent camp and stay in another loop for cheaper with more people, if they don’t price this well.

My random thoughts....
  1. 500sq ft is a large studio, not a 1BR, I don't care if it does have a full kitchen and a "bedroom"
  2. Bunk beds or a loft is not my idea of "adult" sleeping spaces so when it says "sleeps 6 adults", that's a hard "nope" from me. Bunk beds and/or lofts are fun for kids and teens, but I just couldn't fathom bringing grandpa and grandma along and having only one actual bed in the room.
  3. Love the idea of including a golf cart with the room. The resort is so spread out and if you aren't bringing a car, you are at the mercy of the bus system. If they want to sell more points, they could have a "Golf cart included" booking category (ala AKV concierge rooms)
  4. No laundry? They better build up some nice and fancy laundry rooms...maybe throw in a lounge area with a beverage refill station while you wait? A nice TV and fireplace?
  5. First GW to sell out will be Halloween...mark my words🎃

I am very interested in seeing points chart. I’ve seen lots of mentions that it may fall between a 1 and 2 bedroom. We love in room laundry so prefer a 1 bedroom for our family of three. I like to be able to do a load of laundry in the mornings while we have breakfast and get dressed. I sent my husband a pic of proposed cabins yesterday and told him it may be time for our first direct points. If it falls between a studio and 1 bedroom points I’m in. If it’s close to a 2 bedroom and I have to walk to another building for laundry we will stick with our resale points only.

We don’t know what the SQFT will be, the existing concrete foundations are substantially larger than the existing cabins. See:

In if a golf cart is provided.

Not in if I have to take a bus to then take a boat to get to Magic Kingdom. 😂 That’s like a 45 min event both ways because you never time either mode of transportation perfectly.

This wasn’t on my DVC bingo card for this decade.

Hopefully this means they'll restart the Fort Wilderness/Contemporary boat route
I don't see how this would make a difference in that decision. It's simply replacing cabins for newer cabins.

They've already said they're adding a pool plus other amenities. I think it's fair to assume Disney wants to do more than just drop new buildings on the slabs and start selling. Especially since the DVC dues will pay to operate any additions including expanded boat service.

I wonder how many colors they will use for the exterior of these new DVC cabins. The artist rendering shows a cabin with blue and a cabin next to it with a maroon-ish color.

It can add back a better selling point. You might be staying at the cabins but have easy access to dining at 2 other resorts. I at least think it's a better chance it comes back than we were seeing.

I agree. The Improvements to Fort Wilderess only make Reflections seem even more promising. Unless they are using FW Villas as a way to project interest in Reflections. I imagine that maybe FW outside of holidays has been harder to fill up maybe?

Also are these cabins new? or refurbed? Because they say 350 cabins but I looked it up and theres currently 409 cabins there. So way happens to 59 cabins? Will they be tore down for a new pool or restaurant/giftshop in the middle of the cabins?
I don't think they had enough cash payers for the Cabins so they decided to make it DVC. I would say they will be knocking down the 59 cabins and building another pool, restaurant/gift shop etc. They would need another pool. The pool closest to the cabins is too small and the big pool is way too crowded. The new pool would be exclusive to DVC members probably.

I hope that they'll put two bathrooms (not the dumb ones in the Poly) but two full baths. I also wonder if they won't build a pool area with gated access. I'm eager to see the full plans.
