Want to look at a chain that invested every year into new rides, and found themselves in trouble? Six Flags. These rides aren't profit generators. They're expenses that never make you money in the traditional sense. You have to rely on the gift shops at the end of the rides to generate that cash back into the flow. So yes, there has to be some down time to recoup the costs. Something Six Flags never did, and without movie tie in, and real IPs that the public is drawn too, you've got nothing. You can't build $10 million dollar coasters every year without letting it breath a bit.
