Frozen bananas...

We always have 1 or 2 bananas left over at the end of the week. I have a container in the freezer where I put them. My plan is to use these in banana muffins or banana bread. Can anyone tell me if I should defrost the banana first? Or just cut them up frozen and toss them in?

TIA

I would probably defrost them first. I would be worried about the consistency of the batter if you tossed them in frozen.

I agree. You could also slice them up and buy some of the hard shell chocolate to dip them in (and sprinkle them with chopped peanuts). Mmmm... :goodvibes

I would either let them thaw or microwave them. I've made banana muffins with frozen bananas - took them right out of the freezer, microwaved them until soft, and mixed them into the batter. I actually think microwaving them helped bring out the flavor some more, as heating them up caused them to "melt" a bit and be quite watery. Probably not great if you need more texture, but it worked for me!

I take them out about 15 minutes before I plan on mashing them. They are soft enough to mash for the bread/muffins after that short amount of time.

Thanks everyone!

I wish my family would eat chocolate covered bananas. I tried that and no one touched them. We like our bananas and our chocolate., just not together apparently.

Frozen bananas and any other frozen fruit (strawberries!) with just a little liquid to make it move in the blender, tastes like ice cream to me. The banana gives it the dairy mouth feel. Now I need to go buy some bananas.

I might buy some bananas too. :thumbsup2

I thaw them unless I'm making a smoothie. Banana bread, thaw and mash.

This is what I thought of to when I read the thread title. But only because my DD2 loves Daniel Tigers Neighborhood and mom Tiger made banana swirl.
