Jeff do you have Star Trek movies to show? Because if you do I won't bring them. can we throw in Generations? I love Malcolm McDowell.

I do have a blooper reel from TOS and TNG but I'd have to have those transferred from VHS to DVD.

I haven't voted or looked at the logo poll - if I'm to put up a logo it'll be one I pick myself.

No problem. Sorry I've been so absent lately. Work has just been crazy.
You're forgiven! You MUST earn the bread to pay for the trip.

Okay, I've decreased the size of the logos on our poll. Hope this helps. Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff!

That's much better!

Too late to vote now, Nala - the poll closed a while back.

How is everyone doing this chilly grey day?

The pacific locks times are dictated by the number of ships coming through the Culebra cut. Basically the Atlantic bound convoy has priority through the canal. Once the last atlantic bound ship is about to exit the cut they fire up the ships in the Gatun anchorage and make for the coast. The process then repeats at night. The number of ships they let in on the pacific side depends on how many they can get through before they have to let the Atlantic ships go past so they can start the night convoy toward the Atlantic. And that number is dictated by how many they can get through before the morning reserved slots start. It's a heck of an operation.

WO! That is SO interesting. Can you recommend a good resource for more information - obviously you've consulted some and remembered what you learned!

Looking now. A lot of it changed once the widening and lighting of the Gaillard (Culebra) cut happened as it allowed 24 hour panamax operations. Prior to that, there was one Panamax convoy in each direction during daylight hours.

Hi everyone!

It's been awhile since I have had time to check the boards...trying to finish everything up for my daughter before the Holiday break.

I know others have answered about how long it takes to go thru..in 2008 EB.. it took a really long time but added to the time was the fact that we had a huge lightning/thunder storm and sat for over an hour and a half before we could go through the last lock. It was partially to due with a heavy fog that came in and you couldn't see the ship next to you! We were at dinner when we finally went through. I think we cleared it about 7:30 P.M. We spent the morning up on deck and then had an open house in our cabin where others came by to watch from the balcony and visit.

Hope everyone is enjoying thier holiday season.

Me too...as I slept through a good portion of the last one! :lmao:

Got up at the crack of dawn, then there was a lot of waiting around (because of the US submarine, I believe). Did have breakfast in Luminere's during the third lock....that was cool to have the wall just inches from the window in the restaurant, then you'd slowly ascend into daylight! Anyway...the post lunch nap turned into several hours instead of a power-nap (the danger in a nice dark inside cabin). THIS trip I have a verandah, so I'll be doing the morning viewing from there. :thumbsup2

.

Good Morning, Everyone!

The sun is finally out, but snow is predicted again for later. Really goofed off yesterday and read TWO books, James Patterson's Sam's letters to Jennifer, and another one by the husband of Paula Deene. HE is a HOOT - and has some really good recipes of his own.

Happy day, all.

Thats what I do, my sleep pattern is terrible what with the funny shifts!
I often manage on 5 hours sleep a day, then I go to bed for 20 hours of sleep, probably not good for longivity but at least i live my life!

Sounds like a lovely day, last really good book I read was outlander, I never left the house for 3 days till it was finished, best book EVER.

Very sad news today... Roy Disney has passed away from cancer...

:sad1:

Oh that is sad. He was on our Nov Western last year promoting his film morning light. He was very gracious about autographs etc. He sat at the table next to us at dinner. I was very surprised at how many times he and his wife came out to the regular dining.

On pirate night when they were doing the parade through the restautant...maybe it was the "international" theme night...one little girl who was about 8 spotted him as she was participating in the parade. She pointed and screamed and hustled over to his table quite delighted, I think she thought it was WALT!!!

We booked this cruise while on the Magic last week. We are so excited to be able to cruise through the canal with all of you!
Our group includes DH Chip 44, me Cathy 47, DS will be 13 on cruise, DD will be 10, MIL and FIL.
We would be interested in participating in FE gifts. We had a ton of fun with these on our cruise.
We look forward to getting to know all of you over the next year and then meeting you on the cruise.

South West will be comming to Panama City Florida so I can now fly for $49 to Orlando. I am going to keep an eye on the fares. But I hope to get that same fare closer to our cruise. If anyone is a history fan might like reading the book Path Between the Seas which is by David mccolough (sp) it is about the Panama Canal. I am going to do that next year.
Lexi

Oh, this sounds like a good book for our sea days while on the cruise.

Wellcome. You know I was thinking about the title of the thread and the logos. I think I really messed up. As a huge James Bond fan ( I like Bond more than Stare Trek but not by much) we should have had Mickey or someone in a tux looking like a spy. Oh well. Now my brain starts working.
