From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 5

Hi! Spent 6 hrs at 2 different vets this morning and our corgi Bandit needs a spleenectomy. Sigh. He is 13 1/2 and is usually very peppy---not this morning---wouldn't get up and won't eat---x-rays show a mass on his spleen. The earliest they can open him up is on Thursday. Our breeder will be watching our dogs while we are on the trip and she will take great post-op care of him. I am just really worried that there will be a rupture before Thursday and he'll die. I am so not ready to say good-bye to my Ban-dog! He won't eat the chicken and rice I just cooked for him but he will eat cheese. This is so hard!

Tom just tried on his black suit he purchased for my mom's funeral 16 years ago and guess what---it doesn't fit! So I sent him off to Macy's to find a black suit. Sigh.

I am far from ready for this cruise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to participate in the scavenger hunt---I can even pick up some 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons if needed---just let me know.

Des---I have the empty lanyard pouch---you sent it to me for measuring the nametags---so it goes with one of our 2 lanyards.

I also have a question about the secret mickey---do we bring one last gift to the reveal?

I can also provide a list of the January birthdays that I know of---I am bringing something extra for us January birthdays:-)

I think I'll need a lot of distracting if the worst should happen to Bandit so I plan on throwing myself into the events full force!

I am so very sorry about Bandit. Pixie dust and prayers are coming your way. At least you have a reliable person to watch him while you are gone. My babies are healthy and I feel so bad about leaving them. Best wishes, hope everything turns out ok

Hi! If you are coming from outside of the US and you are likely to be traveling with magazines and/or newspapers on your flight can I please ask that you save them for me to read? I am interested in everything! I grew up in a household that received 5 papers a day---my parents were news junkies---and I absolutely love magazines---especially those lovely British ones!

You can just drop them in my FE outside of cabin 7098.

Thank you very very much!

OK, so after taking wise council (Thank you all!)

...The Panama Canal Certificates will get distributed at the DIS meet and greet in the Promenade Lounge, from 3pm on embarkation day.

Everyone will need to make arrangements to get their own certificates signed if they want them signed. A couple of people have offered to bring embossers so that the seals can be embossed if you want to do that on board. (Or take them home and do something at home).

Getting the certificates signed:

The captain usually offers times to sign souvenirs. Check the navigator or ask at Guest Services.

The other option is to ask at Guest Services if you can hand the certificate in for the Captain can sign for you. They do this for the characters so the Captain may do this too. You would have to hand the certificate in and it would get returned at some point during the cruise. The Character things we have had signed have been returned on the last night, so bear that in mind if you are planning to give the certificate as a gift or for packing.

I would recommend a mailing tube to bring them home (16" long) and probably wait til you get home to attach the seal & ribbon. I do have a sample of the seal & ribbon that you can see onboard. Certificates are 15.5" x 21" - i.e. large!

Only 9 days to go! (Well 4.5 for us as we fly out early Sunday morning!)

LindaBabe, can you please update this on page one with the certificate info and the meet and greet info.

Jeff, can you please make a note of this on the website with the first day meet and greet info: 1/6 3pm Promenade Lounge.

Thanks all!

Looking forward to a fun trip!

-Kay

I am so sorry about your little Bandit! I am senidng lots of good thoughts! He will be fine but I know it's so difficult!

I counted your name tag holder (there is only one in your bag with 2 lanyards) I actually found the missing name tag holder a few minutes ago when I was packing but thank you!

As for the SM - yes.. your final gift is for the reveal.

I'm a January birthday and so is my DD! :cool1: That's why we are staying on for the 2 day after this cruise. Figure might as well celebrate in style..

Program almost done...I've had many PM's lately so I don't want to miss anyone or anything. I had planned on including a map of the ship and a list of the people in the FE group so that you will have everything in one place. The only thing I plan on changing is the order of the names...I am going to put them together based on location (all the 2nd floor together etc) so that you can go floor by floor and not miss anyone. If anyone has a spreadsheet that can be easily modified, I would LOVE an electronic copy! Just send it to misnmik@gmail.com

I will give Jeff the final program by Thursday (or Friday at the latest) so that he can put in up on the website so that you can download and print, so please PM all the details you have before then.

I am trying to catch up on the posts and have not made it very far, so I may have missed some updates, but for those of you leaving soon, I wish you safe travels. I'm sorry to hear about everyone's stressful moments...not long now and it will be a book and a lounge chair:banana::banana::cool1:

Hugs,
Melissa

Melissa, Can you add the info about the PC certificate distribution (just posted).

Thanks

Will do!:thumbsup2
I am also planning to put "To schedule or receive current event updates, check whiteboard on Rm 6572" I really think we need a central location so that we don't have to run around the ship trying to find out what is going on...

I've already said I'd happily donate the space outside my room and on my door :)

If you want a central location for everyone to post updates, we're literally right off the midship elevators on deck 7 - 7048. We were just across the way (7548) last cruise and I loved it cuz I never got lost trying to find our room.

We are right off the midship elevator at deck 2. 2560---It is my first time without a veranda, but I think I will survive because I was never in the room except to sleep & change clothes! As long as we have the split bath I will be okay!:thumbsup2

I got dd an indoor/outdoor thermometer for Christmas. It was just a last minute thing, but has turned out to be so popular as there is a little guy on it who is dressed according to the temperature. This morning he was all bundled up with hat, scarf and the works, but by afternoon he lost the hat & scarf. My dd said by the weekend he should be in his shorts! We are calling him Waldo! Amazing how simple things amaze adults!

Get ready for the New Year! 1-1-11! It is going to be our year:dance3:

Just wondering if anyone can help. We are planning our September/October trip right now, and thinking of flying home from New York, and having a few days there prior. As we will have 4 bags after being on a cruise, which would be the best airline to book the trip up from Orlando? Do you have favourites?

Jet Blue...by far. No charge for first piece of luggage per person.

I know in the big scope of things this is a very very small problem but I am so annoyed. Yesterday I found a note in my mailbox, a half sheet of paper, with a "Important Notice" on the top, stating that tomorrow an address number would be painted on my curb. The estimate value of this service is $15 but they'll take a donation. If I do not wish the service I needed to tape a notice to my curb. No name, phone number or address given.

I went out at 7:30 a.m. to put the no thanks notice out, didn't do it last night because it was suppose to rain. Some time before 7:30 they had painted my curb WITH THE WRONG ADDRESS NUMBER. City Hall says they don't know who these people are but they have been doing this scam for years and aren't affiliated with the city nor licensed. They suggested I just buy cement paint and paint over the wrong number as I wouldn't want to complain about "them" and get them mad at me. Big help

Unbelievable!

I f we can't get things decided/ settled before we sail, onboard concierge is going to be busy!
he he, hope he knows this NOW so mahybe he'll push it!!

I remember on our last trip the Champagne Girls event was scheduled but got moved either very close to boarding or after we were on board.

I really can't believe that they have so much trouble to organize events onboard.

:confused3

I'm with you on this. While it would be GREAT to have it be free, $9 or so pp for the convenience of a private room, etc doesn't sound too bad. But I'm also bringing a corkscrew so if we decide to go the free route, I'll be able to help out! Maybe we can cut costs a little by bringing a few bottles already opened! I'm sure there will be plenty for them to open and make some $$.

sorry tracy - but note she said $18 PP (per person) not per bottle!!

Corinna interline is one if the few that they wave the cancelation policy for. I have a friend that was booked on a western. Called two days before, and was changed over.

That is good to know. I rather think we are out of luck this time round, but it is useful information for future reference.

New Development!

I've been in contact with those folks who run the very popular "scavenger hunt" type events at Disneyland twice a year and more recently at WDW. (Not allowed to mention the name because in the parks they're sponsored by a competing Disney-related website, but I'll PM the full event details to Jeff to be included on the Cruise Website, and PM you any details if you ask). Anyway it turns out that several of their staffers are going to be on our cruse and I'm so excited to announce that they have offered to run an event just for us! :cheer2::yay::cool1:

Here are the preliminary details in the email I JUST received confirming their willingness to do this.

We'll send the game materials with our staffers and they'll handle distribution and grading. If you want there to be prizes, your group is responsible for that - you tell us how many winners you want there to be, and we'll give you the results. We're still trying to decide what day to have the game, but it will definitely be a sea day. (Just trying to work around Palo ressies and spa appointments). The packets will be distributed at a time/place to be determined, and will need to be returned at a designated time/place for grading.

We need to know how many teams you expect to have participating so we can print enough packets. As you know space and weight are tight, so we're not bringing a printer (as we have during past events), so we need to know how many packets to have ready. If you need more packets once you get on the ship, you'll be responsible for getting copies made onboard, which is NOT cheap.

Our rules have always stated that each stateroom is one team, just for simplicity sake. We don't allow cabin mates to split into two teams. We are tentatively planning one quest using the WAVE phones, so any cabin wanting to participate in the game should make sure that they don't turn in all of their phones if they want to participate in that quest.

These folks are on vacation just like the rest of us, so I'm really pleased that they're willing to work this out to make it happen. For the sake of simplicity, I'm thinking we won't do prizes, just bragging rights, with a 1st, 2nd and possibly 3rd place winner, depending on the number of participants. (Unless someone has some great prizes they want to donate to the cause!)

So, here are the details so far
1. There is no cost to participate, (however a DOD or at least a thanks to those folks surely wouldn't go amiss!)
2. The date and time of this event is still TBA, but at sea it's normally done rather casually and you get pretty much all day to complete the various quests and turn in your score sheet for grading, so it allows you to still do other things during that day.
3. Please PM me if you want to participate or want more details.
4. The rules are no more than 4 people to a team and/or no more than one team to a stateroom
5. Because of the late notice and their need to print the packets before they leave, I've requested that they give me a final deadline. I'll post that as soon as I hear back from her, but I expect it will be fairly close.

That sounds fantastic. I have sent you a PM.

Hello everyone! I hope that everyone who celebrated had a Merry Christmas!
I fell down on Christmas Eve and got the gift of a broken arm. I went to the ER and they gave me a sling, but I can't get into see an orthopedist for a cast until Monday. It is a bad time to need a doctor. :sad2: DH and I are trying to go over our excursions to see what we can do, but t's hard to really know until I talk to the doctor. :confused3 I know one thing, I will be very happy to have someone cooking and making my bed for me for two weeks! :thumbsup2
Nicole, congratulations on getting into Club 33, that is so exciting! I am jealous!
Kay, I like the idea of picking up the certificates and embossing our own, then getting them signed later. Just my $0.02.
Have a great day everyone, and watch your step!

I am so sorry to hear about your broken arm. That is such bad luck. I hope that you will heal quickly and that the broken arm will not impact on your enjoyment of the cruise.

Corinna- good luck to you! Just think, it'll be out of your hands soon enough, replaced with sun and fun.

Thanks, I will need it. I actually had a couple of very constructive days and got a lot done. The rescheduled my admin day that I missed for tomorrow and I will just blitz the call monitoring ... two minute call... yes, that will do nicely. You are so right, all of this will be forgotten when I get my first look at the ship the very latest.

I don't know what interline rates are, but it doesn't sound fair at all that FL residents get a good deal and Cali ones don't. Disney just don't seem to think things through at all.

I guess this is what took place on our last WBPC cruise Tracy. We didn't take part as we are useless at such things, but i do know it was a lot of fun.

Oh poor you with a broken arm. It must be so painful not being in a cast. I can't understand why there was nobody to put one on for you.:confused3 I guess the system is different over there.

One of our granddaughters went to hospital on Christmas Day morning. She had been sick a lot the day before, then collapsed in the morning. Our daughter called National Health Service Direct(telephone help service), and they just organised an ambulance. She had to wait a couple of hours to be seen once at hospital, lots of drunks around left over from Christmas Eve:mad:, but she was absolutely fine, and bored by then:lmao:. We were just cross with how long it took for a child to be seen. Seems she was weak from being sick, then with all the excitement of Christmas morning her heart beating faster etc, it just took it's toll. Phew. She was back to her normal noisy self playing with her twin the day after when we were there.;):headache:

Interline Rates are special rates for travel industry staff (and especially airline staff). Airlines usually have two kinds of travel benefits - online, which is with your own carrier and interline, which is on other carriers. However, this does not only include air travel, but also cruises, hotels, etc. I managed to get a fantastic interline rate at the Crowne Plaza at Manchester Airport for the night before we fly out today. It was so good that I treated us to a Club Room.

The scavenger hunt that we did on the WBTA was nowhere as professional. Three of us got together and put this together. It was great fun to prepare and then to grade.

I am sorry that your granddaughter had such a nightmare experience at the hospital. I glad that she is OK though.

Pier 93 Port of LA, San Pedro, CA

Last cruise I did it, we went to lunch in Lumiere's as a group instead of reserving a special space. It worked out ok - we all had mickey bars for dessert and a photo was taken!

I'll put this up on the first page for you.

This too.

On the WBTA, we did a Prize Giving/ Secret Mickey Reveal Lunch at Parrot Cay on the last sea day. They were very good about accommodating this.

I am in the process of finalizing the details for the jewellery workshops. I will email you with the details before Friday.

I am just about getting ready for this cruise. I am hoping that our new credit cards arrive tomorrow. DH managed to lose his card for our joint account about a week before Christmas so we had to put a stop to them. We received the new pin numbers before Christmas and I am hoping the new cards will get here tomorrow. Then I can finally finish the online check in for the cruise and do online check in for Animal Kingdom Lodge. I have a whole bunch of documents to print out. I will pack my case on Monday and then I will get my colleague to drop me and my luggage at the airport on his way home. We car share and we drive by the airport anyway.

Corinna

sorry tracy - but note she said $18 PP (per person) not per bottle!!

I think there are two different things here. For Champagne Girls and Mixology, the cost is $18 per person and DCL will provide the drinks.

However, the corkage fee if you bring your own wine to the dining room, etc. is also $18. I think this is what Tracy referred to when she mentioned that this would work out at about $9 per person if DCL provides room and set up for the Wine Meet and Greet.

Corinna

Anyone know if they will accept packages with sun screen. We like to use the "continuous spray" kind and I'm not sure if it's something allowed in checked baggage on airplanes.

I checked with DCL a few weeks ago about this, and sunscreen is considered a liquid...so is shampoo and laundry detergent (like Dropps).

That is good to know. I rather think we are out of luck this time round, but it is useful information for future reference.

And I think it is complete BS. I mean when people see my DCL lanyard I wear at work, people ask me all the time about DCL. We transport these people to their cruises. The very least they can do is throw us a bone a little. I mean a FL rate over a travel instustry rate, complete and utter BS. Bad form DCL.

I am so sorry about your dog - will send good thoughts your way. We do love our pets.

Sounds like there are a number of us not ready. I am taking things day by day. Need to get those Christmas decorations down - the pouring rain is delaying that, can't put away wet stuff - well could - but image the smell when I opened the trunks next year - not a good thing.

I do have a list of things I need to do before the trip - some I have crossed off.
Put the paper on vacation
put the mail on hold
notify the credit card people of the trip
notify the alarm people of the trip and name of the house sitter
Get letter of husband's medical conditions and current EKG from Dr.
Copy prescriptions for medicine and eye glasses, passports, credit cards, and other documents I am bringing
Update and print vacation schedule and contact numbers, including vet, insurance company and alarm company
print up names and addresses for postcards

Anyone have anything on their list?

Will do!:thumbsup2

That would be fine - I picked up a Princess whiteboard yesterday. Please remember I will not be updating the events on the board - I can't take responsibility for that. You will need to come by and update with your events time and place. val
