From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 5

No snow here :( I prepared food for tomorrow ALL day today, finishing up with the Swedish Tea Rings. We had pigs in a blanket for supper and just finished watching the Polar Express. That's about all the excitement we can handle this year.

Have a joyous holiday, everyone, whatever you're celebrating!

Hello Travelers (and future friends). Joining the discussion (and planning) a bit late. Very much enjoying all of your suggestions though a bit overwhelming. We want to join in the Fish Extender fun - looks like fun for my daughter and niece. Can someone point me at the FE FAQ?

FYI - In the real world I provide tech support for Apple and would be happy to help fellow DIS members on our cruise.

Welcome aboard & maybe you can help me figure out how I can use my Iphone 4 and my grandson his itouch4 he is getting for Christmas tomorrow!:santa: That is without breaking the bank! Happy holidays!

hi Tami,

I had e-mailed Jeff two days ago, to be added to the fish extender list, but with the holidays I haven't heard back.

Please add us to the Fish Extender List!! =)

Thanks!! Merry Christmas!!

It is the holidays are our family celebrated it today. Please give Jeff through the weekend to get caught up!

Merry Christmas everyone. For my side of the family tonight is the holiday. In Poland (where we're from), Christmas Eve is the big celebration. As a child it was a very complex and long night for us (12 courses, midnight mass, Santa coming etc). Tomorrow is just a day of recovery. (And a new Doctor Who!!!)

Taking a break from filling stockings (munch, munch, on Ghiradelli chocolate, one for the sock, one for me) and cooking, to wish each of you a very Merry Chistmas.

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me. What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas? This week, I found out.

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality, which the children could remember.

- The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
- Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
- Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
- The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
- The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
- The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
- Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
- The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
- Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
- The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
- The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
- The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.'

Merry (Twelve Days of) Christmas Everyone :littleangel:

Thanks for sharing. I always wondered why there was a song about the "12" days of Christmas because I thought it's only 1 day long.

We are working like busy elves :santa: to make our FE stuff so didn't want our work to go to waste we wanted people to be able to enjoy it :yay:

Merry Christmas to all that celebrate! and Happy Saturday if you don't.

It snowed here last night (just before we had to leave for church so the roads were a little slippery but as far as I know there were no problems). After church the kids (ages 22-29) played rock band in the living room until well after DH and I fell asleep. I woke up this morning to find 6ft 2+ inches of DS on my smallest couch sleeping. It's going to be a "stay at home and chill" day for us here. Last night before church was the big family Christmas with the In-laws and all the family so today it's just us and maybe the inlaws (if they want to come over).

I can't even fill the stockings as they are too heavy to stay on the mantel if it do LOL.

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

For my neighbors when we lived in Germany, Christmas lasted until Candlemas (February 2)

Hope you ALL have a wonderful day!

So i heard from a reliable source that the cruise is sold out but there's like 300 kids on board! so some of the kids activities will be reingineered for adults to have fun with! and there will be more adult type activities and more older adult type activities. interesting. heard that there are 1800 people on board (not sure if sthat includes kids but i guess a lot of rooms going to 2 to a rroom). fun fun!!

This sounds incredibly like the WBTA. I could not believe how empty the ship felt at times. For the first couple of nights, the only table that our servers had was ours. During the cruise, people turned up at the other tables, but the dining room was nowhere close to capacity. We had a number of activities in the Oceaneer Lab for adults after late dinner. I only went to Adult Flubber, but that was great fun. DH even was allowed to have a go on the Mickey slide. I was so jealous when I found out.

hmm, presuming hyou really mean wireless, how do they charge it? and how much? (how being what do they use to knwo who's using it)

The wireless on the ship costs the same amount as the internet on their computers. I think it is about 75 cent per minute and they also have packages, but they are still sill expensive.

Have fun! We love the GCH!

On a personal note...One of our pups was adopted today! So..two adopted this week and one left..I am so happy!

Also went to the doctor's again today for blood work...I seem to be doing better..will continue on my meds for the cruise. One test came back last week as negative so hoping this one does too and I will be happy happy!

Amazing how much your world can change in a week! :)

I am glad that another puppy has been adopted. I hope the test results come back all clear.

We can still Skype from a personal laptop using the wi fi, I hope?? :surfweb:

I don't think you can.

Safe Travel Jourenys to you and your family. Happy holidays & before you know it we will all be together!:cheer2:

Corinna, after the terrible days you have put in at work lately, no one deserves or needs a vacation more than you, unless it would be my dd.I wish she and my dsil could join us on this cruise, but they can't be away for that much time. She is still so stressed out from the surgeries, the move and her ever stressful job that she has no time to unwind. Maybe it will be a relief for me to be away for awhile! I worry about her stress level. She is too much of a perfectionist. I did finish the holiday soup and cookies are on the adjenda for tomorrow!

It is a shame that your daughter cannot make the cruise. It does sound like she both needs it and has deserved it.

I received a note from DCL about ESTA the other day.

We don't need it as we have green cards, but I just thought I would post a reminder in case anyone who needs it hasn't done it yet (and I understand mail might be slow in the UK because of the snow).

Packing tips

- battery operated t-lights - give a nice glow in the bathrooms as a night light (I always leave a faint light on when staying away from home and these are perfect for that) or on a balcony / in the room for romantic :cloud9: ambiance.

Clock with light up dial - so you can see the time in the dark.

"HELP" kit (band aids, safety pins, tape, sewing kit etc) for those moments when you need a bit of help.

Sturdy card / folder / envelope to take home important things flat (like navigators if you collect them)

--Kay

Thanks for reminding me. My ESTA is still valid until June or July, but I need to update our details on ours. I will go and do this now before I forget again.

Items to pack
1. Flashlight in case the power goes off
2. Whiteboard to hang on the door for people to leave messages for us while we are out and about.
3. Raspberry Champagne from one of our favorite wineries in CA and some other bottles of wine.
4. Laptop to transfer the thousands of photos my husband will take to free up space on the memory cards

I love the sound of Raspberry Champagne. Raspberries are my favourite fruit.

Welcome on board.

We are an Apple household and have been for some years. We have a Mac Mini as our main computer and I have a Macbook, iPod and iPhone. We love our Apple products.

Well this has been a real trying week.... I took the week off to pack and do my FE things.... should have know better:headache:I was reading a few weeks ago about all the fear of the Dentist, etc. I was so glad I am not the only one. I actually need to be put completely under. I had a great Dr. a few years ago work on me and he was the greatest. Well, a few days after reading about the dentist I started to feel a throbbing (2 Infections) in my tooth...:scared1: I laughed it off as being crazy, due to my fear. Well guess what... I had a root canal done on Monday and Yesterday. I need to go back on Monday to get temp Crowns and fitted for new one to be placed after the trip!!!! To make matters worse the Dr. I had before retired.... I had a new Dr. (She is good!) But they had to keep, the gas on high and had over 15 shots to keep me numb. But she does not knock you out totally..... So I was in the chair 6 hours on Monday and 3 hours yesterday. We had water damage in our house this summer from the air conditioner overflowing into the wall upstairs and they just finished the baseboards on Tuesday. So we had everything boxed up in the garage in cardboard boxes. Well I don't know if you heard but we had major rain this last week....:headache: You guessed it the garage got flooded........:scared1::scared1: Are you kidding me!!!!!!! So we spent all of yesterday afternoon ( after the dentist) transferring all our stuff to plastic totes....so we can move them around to put the cars in for the trip. Cause now I do not have time before we go to move everything back into my Sewing room. Yes I had boxes of wet fabric and books. I was rewashing them as we worked in the garage.. So I have been real quiet about it all, as I'm not a complainer...but I am on my way to do Disneyland and de-stress with a movie (Tangled). I need to see the lights and snow on Main Street then I will feel better. ;) Thank you all for just being here to read, You and Mickey will make me feel better. :mickeyjum I can't wait till we are on the Ship. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!

I am sorry that you are having such a tough time. I hope that you had a great time at Disneyland and enjoyed the film.

I will bring everything we need. Hope to see you there!!!

I am hoping that I will make it this time as I managed to miss it on the Med cruise. I am just hoping that it won't clash with the DVC Member Celebration.

It is the holidays are our family celebrated it today. Please give Jeff through the weekend to get caught up!

In Germany, where i grew up, Christmas Eve is the main day of Christmas. Normally we have kind of a hybrid at home now. We usually open one present each on Christmas Eve and then open the rest in the morning of Christmas Day and we also have our Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day. Yesterday I was totally exhausted so we opened all the presents this morning. I will cook Christmas dinner late afternoon and we will have a bottle of Rosa Regale to wash it down with.

I somehow never got around to bake any Christmas cookies this year. Still, we will eat enough anyway and it is just the two of us.

I am just chilling out for now. I will finish the Fish Extender gifts shortly (70 out of 100 are done) and then will probably watch a couple of films later.

I hope that you are all having a wonderful Christmas and that Santa has been good to you.
