Sorry to hear about your Dad. I work in rehab. My Uncle was sick 2 years ago when we cruised the Legend. I had changed the cruise to a closer one but wouldn't you know it he died on Tues and the funeral was to be Sat. Even with insurance to fly out of Grand Cay was over $750. Make sure you have insurance. I lost my Dad over 22 years I miss him dearly I was 18.

Well, not sure what's happening now. my dad is doing 100 days of medicare in a nursing care and then hospice. 'just not sure what to do now. i desperately want to go but dont want to be gone if he gets worse. this is horrible. i'm so sad.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Don't rush into anything right now and just focus on your dad for a while.

Just returned home from the vet..one of cats stopped eating and wasn't doing well. She had liver failure and had to be euthanized.

Life stinks sometimes! :sad1:

Aaaw, sorry.

busy making changes to our PC booking - upgraded both DH's and my cabin to Navigator Verandahs - decided it was worth the splurge. I couldn't get side-by-side cabins, though - there's one cabin in-between our two, but not bad considering they'd originally been GTY.

We really ARE getting to the nitty-gritty now - time to start paying off big chunks of the bookings !

Oh - a couple of other questions - how many days of short-sleeved weather are we likely to encounter ? Will we be able to do much swimming ? From what I've read, CC water will be ice cold, but I'm hoping that as we go around towards Aruba, that the sea temp will improve ? I'm also assuming that the pools on board aren't heated in any way ? Yes, I'm a DCL novice ! :rotfl:

Hope all is well with everyone else, and I'm hoping to get back to a bit more posting in just over a week, when the kids have three weeks of holidays from school.

Cheers,
Sally :)

A verandah is nice on the PC so enjoy it!!!

Weatherwise, I looked at all the January temperatures some time ago and was surprised how good they are. Can't remember the details, but I know it was great right up to leaving Cabo. Could be dodgy at Castaway Cay of course though.

To all of you in the Bay area, sorry the SJC flights are so high( unless you are a Giants fan then I say Ha Ha. Just kidding). I was looking at a chart and somedays have been clasified as peek holiday travel time. So fares will be higher. Remember the bussines if bussines is to make money. For example. The day my friends and us want to travel is Jan 4. That day has been clasified as a peek holiday travel day. The day before is also the same, but the 2nd and 1st is a day were we cut flights due to forcasted lack of demand. It really is a weird industry I work in. I am glad I don't have to deal with this type of thing.

Don't worry - I don't blame you personally :rolleyes1

We're looking to fly out on Jan 1st - I think there is time to safely wait and see for a bit....

Hi all. Thank you to all that booked with SWA today. My pay check thanks you. Well I am off to Boston in a few hours, and it was to be in baseball nervana, but now that the Lakers are about to but another smackdown on the Celtics in game 7, I am now scared to be in beantown or the surounding area. Well at least I will be with friends, who are Celtics fans, who have sworn they will protect me.

I feel for you. My own strategy is to continue living as normally as possible, while having contingency plans (such as trip insurance, etc.).

Had to do the "Change flight plans and get home as fast as possible" for my dad. Praying that mom stays healthy. :cool2:

Thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes. My dad comes first of course. My DD understands this too. He's refusing treatment now. I will be getting trip insurance now but i suspect (without hearing from a doc) that won't be an issue. all of you that have and are going through tough times, I feel for you! thanks!

My sympathies for all of you going through sad times with family and friends!

Congratulations to those of you that finally got your flights arranged the way you wanted (I love airline points).

I feel the need to do more planning but feel shut down in everyway.

As far as I remember, when I checked temps, they were all low 80's and it's the dry season. So potentially a great cruise weather wise

So sorry to hear this. We went through this with my mom about 5 years ago. She was about two weeks away from Hospice and my brother came to town and we were discussing how to handle things. She took it out of our hands and passed while we were talking to the Social Worker.

Just returned home from the vet..one of cats stopped eating and wasn't doing well. She had liver failure and had to be euthanized.

Life stinks sometimes! :sad1:

Sorry to hear about your cat. One of our cats had a stroke (at least that is the only thing the vet and we could figure out since all tests came back good) a few weeks back and is very skinny and has back leg problems. There are days when I think it would be best to put him down but he is eating like a pig and doesn't seem to be in any pain so can't bring myself to do it yet.

We may be having to cancel this trip. My DH got laid off yesterday and we will have to put our heads together as to finances. Luckily he has been contemplating retirement (just not quite so soon) so we are really better off than a lot people. Our house is paid for so we have a roof and our finances are sound right now so we will just have to make a few adjustments (like having him around all the time :lmao::lmao:). We are probably better off right now than if he had retired since he was given a severance package and can collect unemployment.

To the Dry Wipe Board group: If this does happen I will continue to take care of the getting the boards but will have to have them shipped to someone else. Will let you all know when decisions have been made. :thumbsup2

Carol, I hope you do get to go with us!
Congrats (?!?!?!) to your DH on his early retirement!

Tinkryansmom - DH's cabin was originally showing as GTY, but I was checking the Disney cruise website at least once a week - as soon as actual cabin numbers started appearing, I had our TA change his booking to a specific cabin number, then upgraded my cabin cat. when another cabin number opened up close enough. If you want a specific number, then just keep checking either Disney or Travelocity.

I'm using my itouch, so hard to do replies, but I'm hoping someone will know the answer about my previos question about our flight out of lax and check-out time ?

Many thanks for the replies about weather, too :)

cheers,
Sally :)

Can't do SWA unless I want to go to Baltimore (am flying them home though) so I'm waiting for Jet Blue to open on January 5th and then I will decide if I will fly on the 4th or the 5th.

Alan can probably answer it better, but any 8am flight out of a major airport is a bit of a pain. Anaheim isn't the closest to LAX and traffic in Southern California is HORRIBLE (bigegst reason why we would never live there).
It is entirely doable, HOWEVER you would have to get up at the crack of dawn. Maybe best just to not even go to bed!

Pahrompgirl - sorry to hear about the unexpected change in lifestyle. A case of BTDT for us, so I know what a shock it is. Hope you are able to do what suits you both.

Thanks, JenKatt :) That's what I'm worried about. On our trip to DL in 2008, our Super Shuttle took about an hour to lax. I'm assuming check-in would need to be about 90 mins prior to flight departure. That means a 5am wake-up :(

Carol, sorry to hear you might have to cancel. Hopefully not though!!!! On the positive side it does seem like Doug was almost ready to retire and also has received some enhancements he wouldn't have got if he had just chosen to do so. However, I do understand about having our hubby's around the house.:headache: It does take some getting used to and working through, even though the majority of the time it is great and we enjoy ourselves.

I don't think 5am would even do it. On one hand it's the holidays, schools and businesses are closed. But then again it's the holidays, the airports are insane. I might almost suggest leaving DLH that night and staying at the airport and get some shut eye there. But I don't know if LAX has an onsite hotel.

Im so sorry, but it sounds quick at least, and trust me thats a good thing:flower3:
 So sorry you are going through this.

 for you too! I know how hard it is to lose a pet member of the family.

And what is it about bad news today? A friend called me just a bit ago and told me that another friend of ours husband was just diagnosed with prostate cancer and it sounds like it's quite aggressive. ANd he's only 40! I don't really know him too well (and have only known her for about a year), but my heart aches for them. The have a 4 YO DD. Makes me feel guilty :guilty: about worrying about airfare and such for this cruise when they facing this.
Thats terrible, I never take life for granted, just as well you never know whats coming at uou, thats for sure.

ANimals are such a worry:sad2:
It will be a shame if you have to cancel, but I bet your hubby wonders how he managed to work he will have so much to do!

I am sorry to hear this...business is slow for me right now so this week I have been contemplating if we can still go on this. We aren't where I was hoping to be and I have already downgraded our category :) Hang in there - I sure hope you can go!

If your flight is at 8AM, you will need to leave the DLH about 5 - 5:30AM to get to LAX in time for your flight with traffic would be atleast an hour if not a little longer...so I assume wake up would be earlier. Without traffic from DLH it would take you approximately 45minutes or so. There is a closer airport to DLH with is John Wayne Airport in Orange County - about have the distance but I do not remember if you already have the tickets or not for LAX.

There are several hotels in the LAX area. As suggested, you might be better off staying the night befor near LAX. We do not have a hotel onsite like MCO but we have several very close to LAX.

Thanks for the well wishes. Actually DH seems to pretty happy about it. Now we can do some of the things we have been talking about. It would be nice to spend 15 days on a ship with all our friends but if it doesn't work out there will be something else.

Marilyn, you are right. DH was home a lot so that won't be a big change but I did look forward to the occasional times that he was away. I am sure we will enjoy being together, though, we always have.:thumbsup2
