From Oil Wells to Jingle Bells-Bells,pg.66, See you in September!

Congrats on stopping smoking! Mark the date on your calendar so you can look back in 6 months and say, "Six months smoke-free!" And have Smidgy join you in your new endeavor. Healthy and wealthy from not smoking. :thumbsup2 (Sounds good, anyway.)

Cool! So how many cars have you bagged lately? Can you shoot me a nice new Corvette? :rotfl2:

While you're at it, try to get me a new Challenger, ok?

Hey now! I've lived with the man for the past 8 years, and have been married to him for 3 of those 8. Because of this, I believe I should at least get first dibs on any new car bagged...So, no disrespect intended...but ya'll are gonna have to stand in line like the rest of us until I get my Cadillac Escalade, or something better than this PT Cruiser I'm toting around :rotfl:

On a side note: Nebo, I'm routing for you! I know that quitting isn't easy. Good support, like you obviously have at home and here will definitely help you through. Good luck

Nebo,

I was thinking of you all day yesterday...at least it was a game right to the end and not a blow out! I didn't get to see most of the game - my son turned 7 yesterday! :yay: It was a tough way to end the season though...believe me, I can sympathize. We still can't talk about last week in our house.

Now about the smoking...we all know it's going to be tough, but you can do it!! And we like you grumpy...we've all stayed during the last two trip reports haven't we?? :rotfl2: The real love and support will probably need to go to Smidgy!!

We're all routing for you!! :cheer2: And just think with all the money you'll save on cigarettes, you'll probably be able to squeeze in another trip to Disney!!!

Ya, for trying to quit.
We are all here to support you.

I'm proud of you, Nebo. Quitting is not fun but you can do it. I keep waiting for the day when the doctors say it is safe to smoke. I haven't had one in about 13 years but I still crave them everyday. I know that you can quit. We are here anytime you feel cranky and need to vent.

Think of it this way nebo. If you both quit smoking then that means all taht money for............WDW!:goodvibes:cool1::thumbsup2

Me too!!! Down 47 pounds so far!

Ain't that the truth?! :rotfl2:

Hey you have have you been?! Congrats on your success! I was cracking up at the hubby and the BIL this year talking about that maybe in the next year or two the Lions will be at the Superbowl. Some guys just never learn.

Wow, the trip report exploded!
Now I have to clean it up.:lmao:
Prepare for a massive post. Thanks for the well wishes, we'll spend most of this on the smoking issue, and I guess the Bears, and tomorrow I'll get back to writing on the trip.

Yes I have to agree it was Cold there but fun except for dodging the big lights cameras and action I was told to move I was in a camera shot I guess i ruined that interview lol Connie was dressed in everything she could find and fit into just to stay warm she looked liked randy in the movie Christmas Story:QUOTE]

You know Randy I never did find out what they were shooting that day, i watched the parade on tv but that didn't help.

I hear ya. I've been working shift work for 20 years now... trust me... it's getting old. Really enjoyed it a couple of weeks ago.
Monday/Tuesday 3pm-7am (16hours)
Wednesday 7am-3pm
Thursday 11pm(wed night)-7am
Friday 7am-3pm
Saturday 11pm(fri night)-7am then 3pm-11pm
Sunday, Monday and I think Tuesday were midnights. Roughly the same thing the following week but not quite so bad.
.

Ponzi, those hours are nuts, that WOULD definately kill me.

: "Randy lay there like a slug, it was his only defense."

That was my favorite line in the whole movie.

Nebo/Steve

I was so happy to read about ur decision to quit smoking. I wish you all the luck in the world. It is a hard thing to do-as I am sure you know but so worth it. Please feel free to vent here or send me a pm. I lost my Mom in July of 09 to COPD-caused by years of smoking. She was one month away from seeing her first grandchild go to kindergarten. I will be here to give you all the encouragment you need and a kick in the you know where if you need that too. This wil be a gift you give yourself as well as your kids and their kids. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. Big hugs:hug: I know I am a newbie to your reports so i hope I am not coming off as psycho Dis lady-just hits close to home for me. And if you take that Sep trip and are there the last week drinks in fuzzy cups on me-I'm buying-you cant spill em.:)

Thanks Mary, by the way, is copd stand for cardio pulmonary disease?

:guilty::sad2::sad1: i think its my fault that the bears lost too. Why do we take it so personally, when really it was that blasted Collins fault dangit.:lmao:

Ok, I'll blame you too. Actually, I don't blame Collins as much as I blame Lovie for putting him 2nd on the depth chart ahead of Hanie.

anyhoo Nebo, good luck with the quiting of the smokes.

looking forward to the next update, even if it is a little snotty. popcorn::

KIM

Me? Snotty? No way!

Not true not true at all. I also tell the family to start conditioning for WDW. They boud out of the house with smiling faces to start training:rolleyes1 ok May be more like the reaction you get. I walk all day at work so I just get the last laught the first few days we are there.

My biggest problem with what happens at Disney when you're not in shape is the shin splints, I'll try to do a lot of walking before a trip but I still get them. What the heck are those anyway?

You can do it! It sucks, I won't lie. I still think of myself as a smoker, 6 months after I quit and I smoked 2 packs for 45 years. (hey, that reminds me, TODAY is my 6-months anniversary!) I'd send you my daughter if I could, she was a great support in a "you better quit or I'll move and and kill you before I do" kind of way. No honestly, she was so excited when I went to the laser place, it's what kept me on track for the first few weeks. Heck, she even promised to take me to a movie for my reward
I still chew the gum and take lozenges. Great for youi can quit cold turkey, but remember, there are options if that is too hard. Is Smidgy joining you in this venture? If not, that will make it very difficult.

We'll be here for you, grumpy or not!!!

PS: Just in case you don't read the edit, Mony is a quitter too

Ok, now you're just messin' with me, what edit, there''s no edit. and....
"Me? Grumpy? No way!"

I have not learned how to :headache:quote correctly, so bear with me!

Nebo, We will all be rooting for you because we know how difficult it is to quit tobacco. My DH dips, GROSS!!! YUCK!!! WE also have a DD who is 7 and anti tobacco who rides him like a donkey everytime she sees proof that he is sneaking when she is not around.:scared1: I do not have to say anything.

Both of my parents smoked, and both quit, but it was NOT easy. :sad2: Mom's COPD is much better now than it was 12 years ago when we nearly lost her but she is prone to upper resp infect.

Kiersten, I'm very glad you're folks were able to quit, both mine smoked too, and my sister. They quit the hard way, when their birth certificates expired.

I might try the AAA discounts, and my husband has a friend who is a travel agent who often gets "specials".....I might try her as well. :hippie: I also want to go ahead and book for labor day weekend too when our passes will be out of blackout again.

Before they had so many discounts and Pin codes we used AAA all the time, usually for 25 percent off of mods, not so much for the values.

Sending you prayers for your quitting success. I want to be able to enjoy your trippies for many years to come.
I'm an ex-smoker too, but it's been 23 years since I quit, and I had only smoked for ten years. It was a challenge, but it helped me to think of it as "sticking it to the man," namely RJ Reynolds or whoever grows and markets coffin nails.

Think of the fun you can have with the money you save!

I just fhad to look at my pack, sure enough, RJ Reynolds,,,,,,,,,,and the company I used to be a machinist for was also Reynolds. I'be been a slave to Reynolds long enough!

Nebo,
We spoke this fall when you were speaking of quitting. I was at the time too...

The Chantix has helped and so has the vaping I have been doing... Fake cigs with the taste - 6mg's when I need them and none when I don't. I have a pack and a half of the real deals sitting here not touched since 11-19-10. They are there because I said so. lol I do better if I am the one calling the shots.
Anyhoo... I am still trying to back off the nicotine completely and am getting there. Slowly but surely...

Good luck to you friend. I enjoy reading your TR's and if you need to vent/pop/scream, I am here for ya!

Way to go Tweevil, I am going to try and get all the damn nicotine out of my system as fast as possible and keep it out so t hat's why I'm not trying the gum or the E-cigs,,,I've had them before and they just make me want to have a real smoke.

You can do it Nebo! Quit, Quit, quit! :thumbsup2

Hi Jv, I don't remember you, if you're new, welcome! if you've posted before, well, welcome anyway!

Congratulations, Nebo, on making a decision that can change your life for the better. I lied - I don't actually have cravings anymore, or maybe it was just that I knew I couldn't go back to smoking so didn't notice them as much. Anyway, I know you can do it, I have faith in you. Cold turkey! And now is a really good time - you're already depressed about the Bears loss. By the time you climb out of that hole you'll be several days into quitting and you'll associate the dark days with the Bears and not the lack of smokes. Ultimately, you could find yourself to be a Saints fan.
Oh come on - they were just saved from a really bad beating from the Steelers.
No I'm not a Steelers fan, but Big Ben and the Steelers defense did great things for my fantasy team.

Wow, Sandy is a fantasy player? You're just full of surprises. And believe it or not, I am now a Packer fan, I can't stand big "BEN".

Yea I'm a quitter, I've quit so many times, but this is the last time. I went 8 years once and started back up, but now, it's been 4 years, 3 months. I hate the smell of cig. smoke. I turned into one of those people.......heh.

That's why I'm on Weight Watchers now, but it is all good!

So, nebs. Cold?

I can't believe all the whining coming from a person from ALgonquin, IL who is used to harsh winters and cold. If you were from Michigan you'd be wearing shorts and it wouldn't bother you one bit. Heck, now that it is zero out, I guess I'll put on the winter coat when I go outside.

Nope, sorry, still hate the cold, I only live here because of heritage, not through any choice of my own, that's for sure.

Quitting smoking will be easy, putting up with me is harder.
On a more serious note, I am proud of your decision.

Who said that?:
Oh and to make you feel better, how would you like the Lions as your football team? :rotfl2:You can stop laughing and get up off of the floor.

The Lions were the most improved team in football as the year went on, didni't they win the last 5 games or so? And Stafford could be a star if his shoulder heals,,,,just ask Sandy.

Wow. Bears lose. You got your issues with your eye. And you're gonna quit smoking? You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! Good luck. As you can see from all the posts, we're all rooting for ya!

You are not old enough to know Gunga Din, well, neither am I for that matter. Let's see, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Victor Mclagen, Sam Jaffee, remade in the 60's by the rat pack and called Sargeants 3.

Nebo, I am so very sorry about your Bears. I am the eternal Colts fan, but Jay Cutler is a native of Santa Claus, IN which is very closeish to me, and I have been there many times to their theme park "Holiday World". The high school he attended plays our high school in football each year, so I was definitely rooting for the "hometown" boy.

We have never been to Holiday World for some reason but been to Indiana Beach on lake Shaefer a bunch of times, though not recently. I've heard they have some good coasters at Holiday World, true?

Do you know how hard it was not to come up with some kind of smartypants comment whilst posting on your TR? But I'll cut ya a break since life seems to be throwing you some curveballs. Do not expect this ever again.:

Yes, I understand and appreciate the effort and restraint you have had to exert.

In all of that pondering of the last post, the opnly thing I focused on was "Go Sox"????:confused3

Don't you mean
LET'S GO PHILLIES

[
L/Y MI:hug:

Sure, I'll root for the Philies, they're in the other league. Nice work with the bowling pins set up, but I'm probably going to have to delete them cuz it will make this post over the smiley limit.

Ah man. I was bummed about the Bears. I was really routing for them. I don't blame you for Urlacher not getting a Super Bowl ring. The defense played pretty good for the most part. Now Jay Cutler and the offense, that was a different story. Maybe they should've put in what's his name for the WHOLE game? Hanie was it? For the most part, I thought he did pretty good. Way better than "oh I hurt my knee sometime during the game" Cutler. Oh well. Like you said, life will go on.

I don't understand it myself, Cutler has taken a beating all year long, he's tough, but it sure didn't look like it. Wonder if he also might have had a problem with his blood sugar since he's also diabetic.

Good luck on the quitting bit. DW and I both did it. We did it together so we know it can be done.

Way to go Thumps, if I do can i have that Challenger?

Hey now! I've lived with the man for the past 8 years, and have been married to him for 3 of those 8. Because of this, I believe I should at least get first dibs on any new car bagged...So, no disrespect intended...but ya'll are gonna have to stand in line like the rest of us until I get my Cadillac Escalade, or something better than this PT Cruiser I'm toting around
PT Cruiser, huh? (snicker) No, I shouldn't laugh, in 1981 I went out an bought a brand spanking new ,,,,,,
oh, this is gonna hurt to have to type this.......

Renault Le Car!

On a side note: Nebo, I'm routing for you! I know that quitting isn't easy. Good support, like you obviously have at home and here will definitely help you through. Good luck

thanks very much Lady Thumper, appreciated.

Nebo,

I was thinking of you all day yesterday...at least it was a game right to the end and not a blow out! I didn't get to see most of the game - my son turned 7 yesterday! :yay: It was a tough way to end the season though...believe me, I can sympathize. We still can't talk about last week in our house.

Boy, it sure looked like it was going to be a blowout though, pretty sad when we have to count on Mr. Haney from Green Acres to get the game close.

Believe me, if I can quit,,,,,not so sound like a 16 year old, but we are SO going to Disney this year, sometime, and I mean like, as soon as possible.
Maybe for once I can enjoy a Deluxe or Villa without having to worry about how close it is to a DSA.

Ya, for trying to quit.

A long time ago, I once went with my boss and a new client to lunch one day. My boss wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Then he asked this well dressed man where he grew up and he said Wisconsin.
My boss stupidly replied, "Wisconsin?" "Only hookers and football players come from Wisconsin."

The client angrily started to rise to his feet, "My WIFE is from Wisconsin, too!"

I said quickly, "Oh really? What position does she play?"

ok, old joke, had to do it

I'm proud of you, Nebo. Quitting sucks, but you can do it. I keep waiting for the day when the doctors say it is safe to smoke. I haven't had one in about 13 years but I still crave them everyday. I know that you can quit. We are here anytime you feel cranky and need to vent.

Thanks Tink, Smidgy will be planning the ADR's as each non smoking week passes.

Me too!!! Down 47 pounds so far!

Uh oh, that's gonna be another problem. I'm fat enough and I hate the way I look NOW. And my back can't handle any more weight in my belly, never could.
Ok, throw in "mall walker" into my resume. ;)

Ok, I know I'm not suppose to do this but I need a laugh, maybe you do too, Smidgy got this and sent it to me, new chapter tomorrow,,,,I'm hoping.

I absolutely LOVE this one!

is copd stand for cardio pulmonary disease?

Chronic Obstructive Pulminary Disease

Wow, Sandy is a fantasy player? You're just full of surprises. And believe it or not, I am now a Packer fan, I can't stand big "BEN".

No, I am a Fantasy league winner, and in a 63 team league, too. (buffing my nails)

The Lions were the most improved team in football as the year went on, didn't they win the last 5 games or so? And Stafford could be a star if his shoulder heals,,,,just ask Sandy.

They did better than expected, but so did others like Tampa Bay.

Uh oh, that's gonna be another problem. I'm fat enough and I hate the way I look NOW. And my back can't handle any more weight in my belly, never could.
Ok, throw in "mall walker" into my resume. ;)

Yes the weight is the biggest problem when quitting. I admit it defeated me - 30 pounds in less than a year.

I'm scared

i have six cigarettes left, not gonna leave any around for tomorrow, but can't throw them out.
I have to smoke them.

And I'm tired.

Oh joy, I can't wait for tomorrow,,,,,,,
or 3 o'clock in the morning.

Am I saving money yet?

I played this record many times before my final time quitting:

I rauche noch die letze cigarette und leg noch mal die alte platte auf.."

Roughly translated as: I am smoking the last cigarette and put on the old record again

Well, that probably wasn't helping any :confused3

YES, YOU ARE SAVING MONEY ALREADY (almost)

OMG, I just found this lyric in German that is perfect! I'll try to get it translated via web (haha), but just in case, here is the link:

http://www.lyricsvip.com/Ruth-Händel/Meine-letzte-Zigarette-Lyrics.html

"This is certainly - hust hust (cough cough - my edit) - my last cigarette. I give my word - hust hust (cough cough) - my last cigarette. Smoke from tomorrow I no longer; what I bet and schwör. Only 'n Train (only one more drag, sheees!!!)- hust hust - from the last cigarette. This is certainly - hust hust (cough)- my last cigarette. If I am aufsteh'n (when I get up), i stitches in the chest. And in the mouth, the taste of tar and tobacco. My skin is cheeseweiss; on the forehead is cold sweat."

Free translation = you get what you pay for.... I wont even attempt another verse

OK well, I couldn't resist, LOL:

The curtains are very yellow and the flowers are faint. In the whole Bude stink it cold smoke. And what remains of grand fragrance is not more than thick air. I listen to it( I quit! - has nothing to do with listening, geesh!) makes no fun; otherwise i beiss into Grass.

I give my word - hust hust - my last cigarette. Smoke from tomorrow I no longer; what I bet and schwör. Only 'n Train (only one more drag) - hust hust - from the last cigarette

PS: Tip from the pros: Drink lots of WATER!

I remember from when my dad quit (he had a massive heart attack in his mid-fifties, and quit cold turkey) that he coughed and sneezed a lot for awhile. When I took the quitting class from the Amer. Lung Assoc., they said it's because your body is trying to purge all the toxins. So yes, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit and veggies and whole grain, and let it all pull all of the gunk out of your system. It also helps control your weight.

. Is Smidgy joining you in this venture? If not, that will make it very difficult.
gee, thanks Marita..;)

Wow. Bears lose. You got your issues with your eye. And you're gonna quit smoking? You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! Good luck. As you can see from all the posts, we're all rooting for ya! :goodvibes

love that movie!

And have Smidgy join you in your new endeavor. Healthy and wealthy from not smoking. :thumbsup2 (Sounds good, anyway.)

ok, for those of you wondering if I am quitting too: (sigh)
I am not a SMOKER, smoker. example: I had my first cig. today at 10:15 PM, on my way home from work tonight.

I really only smoke when: I am having some cocktails.
OR: I am with Nebo on vacation.OR, really bored.

it's not that important to me. but when I DO smoke, I enjoy it.

when we get together at Todd and Kimmy's house, and nebo and Jeremy and my brother Dan go out to smoke(todd and Jeremy being our sons) well, last time I don't think I had even one smoke. I did have a couple cocktails, but I was too busy visiting with everyone, and being with the grandkids to even care about it. and Todd is like me, too. he smokes now and then, but hardly ever when he is with his son (he gets him every other weekend)

Yes, I had a beer at work, while cleaning up, so I had a cigarette on my way home. It's weird, ,maybe I'm not addicted to the nicotine? If I don't drink, I'll go 2 days without a cig and not miss it at all. and wave Nebo's smoke away, and comment on how stinky the house is. but, now, at the 'puter? I have a beer and a cig.. and another cig. oops, another. when I drink at home, I chain smoke. I admit it.

at the football gathering we were at yesterday, I went out with him a couple times, had a few puffs, but I really didn't even want to. too cold. but wanted to go with him.

The canteen manager at the VFW goes outside often to smoke. she says to me "diane , did you quit?" no, I'm tending bar right now, and I really don't care one way or the other if I have one or not." (i'm not drinking, so I don't want one)

at the restaurant, the other waitress will step out for a smoke, if it's slow. It's only if it's REALLY slow, and she's smoking anyway, that I'll have one, just to chat with her.

on vacation, he smokes a lot less than usual, I smoke a lot more than ususal. why? well, the drive down. once you get really bored...

But I smoke a lot more on vacation cause he wants to go to the DSA... SO, as long as I'm there.. I have a cig, too. but I could do without it, and rather would. now, later.. when we have a cocktail, then I'm all about "let's leave the room and go to the DSA for a smoke"

, I could go the whole day at the park without a smoke. and often I get really irritated, when there is SO much to do, and he wants to go to a DSA.. yet again!! look at all the wasted time. I'm always trying to sneak another ride or attraction in, before another DSA stop. in fact, last few trips, I have often told him, "you go to the DSA, I'll go get fast passes, then I'll come back and get you. and I never even have one.

the times I Do smoke, I really do enjoy it, and since it's not that much, part of me feels like I should be able to. Like, if someone is addicted to chocolate, and can't stop eating it, should the person who enjoys it now and then have to quit eating it? but, obviously, they shouldn't CHOW DOWN on it, in front of the other person.

but I have told Nebo, "we'll quit together", just so HE will quit. (and, of course, it's not good for me, either) we all know about cancer, COPD, etc. but for him, the most important thing is his vision. and now that it's gotten worse, it's really important for him to quit.

whenever we CAN move, we will never sell this house the way it smells. Jeremy never comes over with his family, cause his wife can't stand the way it smells. (he still smokes himself.. shouldn't, he has bad eyes also, just not as bad as Nebos) we don';t smoke around the grandkids. we can't smoke in either son's house, (or anywhere, for that matter) so it just makes sense to quit.

and , of course, there is that little MONEY factor!

I still haven't answered, have I? I just wanted to set the matter straight, that even though I smoke occasionally," I don't consider myself a "real smoker".

so I guess I'll join Nebo in his endeavour. which won't bother me at all, MOST of the time. but will drive me crazy when I really Do want to smoke. But, yes I know he will never quit unless I give it up, too. So we will quit together .
we are kinda joined at the hip anyway. we rarely do anything without the other. why stop now?:cloud9:

Now about the smoking...we all know it's going to be tough, but you can do it!! And we like you grumpy...we've all stayed during the last two trip reports haven't we?? :rotfl2: The real love and support will probably need to go to Smidgy!! We're all routing for you!! :cheer2: And just think with all the money you'll save on cigarettes, you'll probably be able to squeeze in another trip to Disney!!!

thank you! actually, he is more addicted to smoking than anyone I know. It's going to be very hard on him.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:::rotfl::lmao: Nebo thinks Relish is a vegetable.

I used to put fruit in his lunch. he had a collection of dried fruit on his workbench!

He will eat: corn. peas (but only the early June peas, in a can). black eyed peas (in a can). lettuce (but nothing dark green, only the head lettuce). and.. um, nope, that's it.
oh, and potatoes and onions.
I "hide" mixed veggies in soups or casseroles. I once made Zuccini(sp?) bread. he didn't like it.
Oatmeal is good for cholesteral. he doesn't like oatmeal. I made oatmeal cookies, or oatmeal muffins., doesn't like them. Almonds are good for Chol. too. bought a can. he doesn't eat them
blueberries! anit-oxidants, plus good for chol. he doesn't like them! how can anyone NOT like blueberries?

one thing at a time.

Just don't ANYONE harp on how a suntan is BAD for you! we DON'T CARE! Nebo will never give up his sun time. he loves lying in the sun, and getting dark and sexy looking. after all, there is all that Vitamin D!!!

I am happy that Nebo has decided to quit smoking and that you have Smidgy there to support you. I can't imagine how hard it will be. Nebo it is wonderful that you are doing it for your health and to be around so you can be Smidgy's Prince Charming for a long time. I would think you would have a good chunk of change after you quit too so that is always a bonus :goodvibes!!
