Now that the trip is so close I have to ask...are there frogs at Ft. Wilderness? Some people have snake and spider phobias but you can tell by my tag mine is frogs! The little lizards are no problem but I will have to have my dh give me a piggyback to the cabin if there are hippys! We stayed at the treehouses twice and I never saw one but this is our first stay at Ft. Wilderness. Weird question I know sorry! :)

I totally sympathize with you. I have had a HUGE frog phobia since I was a kid. I know that some people won't get it, but the things just freak me out! Anyway, as much as I totally detest the little creatures, I have to say that I have frequently seen them at FW. I usually see frogs in October and Toads in December. The frogs in October freaked me out so much, that I will no longer visit there during that time period. They were on the top of the door jambs to the laundry room, on the windows and even found them crawling up the side of my RV. They were the freaky little kind with sucky feet. I hate the feeling that they could be "anywhere" with their ability to climb. The toads are easier to spot and easier for me to stay away from. I have tended to see them by the light posts around the loops. They actually sit there all night and wait for unsuspecting insects to hover around the lights. I know they have to eat, but again, just freaks me out! I have had a huge problem with the 1700 loop comfort station, as they are so bold that they have actually been IN the women's bathroom. No matter where I camp, if I have to use a comfort station to do laundry, I use 1600/1800, as I have not seen the volume of toads there. I do not go ANYWHERE at night without a flashlight directly lighting the path in front of my feet, and as much as this will bother some people, I delight in seeing the dried up little dead ones on the pavement in morning that have been run over by golf carts, knowing that I no longer have to deal with them! LOL

Thank you for your reply. I went and packed 2 flashlights as soon as I read your post. I know its an AWFUL phobia and people look at you like,,"What? But they are soo cute!" No thanks! I had to have a deck built on the back of my house just so I could go in the backyard. Expensive phobia! I knew I would find a diser that would understand- Thanks so much! I totally relate to finding smushed frogs except when they fall out of my dryer! YUCK!!! :)

I'm one of those people that say "but they are so CUTE!" LOL! I love going out at night and picking them off the side of the house and playing with them!

But, show me a spider and I'll be in the next county before you can blink! LOL! I'm thankful that I've never seen a big spider at FW!! :earseek:

EEEwwwww! I would probably pass out! Tell you what... if you get rid of all the frogs at Ft. Wilderness for me I promise I will protect you from all the spiders! :) I wish you were down there when I am you could be "The protector of all things Froggie!" :)

(Don't take this the wrong way) But bet you hated the Lilo & Stitch movie. We were in the woods 1 time around where we live - when one of the ladies we were with seen a snake and did a back flip over us and left my son (about 5 at the time) in the front to confront the snake. It was a copperhead after it was over and he was out of harms way we were able to laugh about how the adrenalen (however you spell it) kicked in.

Feelin' Goofy- No I liked Lilo and Stitch. :) But I know the scene your talking about! When the frog in the road scene came up my family all turned at the exact same time to look at my reaction ! :) :) :)

I don't like snakes, Period! Frogs, ok, spiders, ok, lizards, ok...but NO snakes. DD7 thinks their cute! Where did she get that from! She wanted a birthday party at Clyde Peeling's Reptiland (near Williamsport, PA)! I took care of the food & party stuff while DD7 and her friends went to the snake, & reptile show.

I've gotta tell you this - even though it wasn't FW.

The other day a snake came THROUGH OUR OVERFLOW DRAIN in our BATHTUB!!!!!

As you can see, I am STILL SCREAMING, even though I wouldn't say I was particularly afraid of snakes.

Oh but the frogs at FW are soooo cute! Some are so tiny you have to bend down to see them. There were tons of baby ones there last month.
Now, I hate lizards, and I really HATE snakes. My son spent most of his time trying to catch the lizards, but thankfully we did not see any snakes...............or alligators, eek!

We stayed in the Treehouse Villas twice also, lots of fun with little kids.

Stayed in a CABIN once and still remember the little frog situation while we were there.

The little suckers do sit on the door frames near the light. We had to turn the light off and pound on the door frame before we went outside or they would jump on us as we walked outside.

DW would make sure I was always the first one out the door.

I thought I was the only one on earth with this phobia! Can't wait to tell my DH there are other people afraid of frogs too. He laughs at me because he says they're harmless and can't understand how I can be afraid of them. I think they're VILE creatures. :)

We were looking forward to staying at Ft. Wilderness when he gets back from Iraq next year. Hadn't even thought of the whole frog situation!

UPDATE!!!! We spent 3 nites at the cabins and NEVER saw one frog!!! and believe me I keep a-lookin'! but we were evacuated to OKW for Jeanne and didnt pay any attention to where I was walking there. But what comes hopping my way but one of those nasty little creatures! But after a stay at OKW I think I might be able to brave the frogs again! :)

I guess I should tell you about the time a frog fell on my arm while walking at night from a tree at FW! Scared the you know what out of me! We were walking back from the camp fire and were under some trees....I then felt this cold kind of sticky thing land with a thump on my arm! I swatted fast and the thing landed on the side walk.....kids laughing hysterically. Hubby teasing me too! I thought I was going to die! LOL! WOrst thing went the following year, kind of forgot about the frog but not Darling Hubby! Walking on the same path he yells watch out for the frog! I scream and then of course start to slap him silly!

I have to say that I feel soooo much better about myself now that I know I'm not the only freak in the world that doesn't like frogs! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all your stories and comparing them to my own life. Who needs therapy when you have the DIS boards?

We were at FW one time and we had torrential rains for a couple of days which brings out the bull-frogs. Those darn things were SO loud!!! At one point I thought that someone was actually driving around with a fog horn! Anyway, after not getting any sleep for a couple of nights because of the frogs, I was a bit cranky. I walked outside and put my hand in one of my canvas bags to get something and out jumped a frog! OMG, I screamed so loud, it brought other campers running.

Needless to say, we packed up a day early and came home! Now whenever we're doing a countdown for a trip to FW, I keep a close eye on the weather!
