We want to do some experiments with the students at the school I work at in food tech but we require Fresh Yeast - our usual supplier has gone out of business, does anyone have any idea where I can buy it!!!!

You could try the Local Deli, Health food shops, maybe even the local baker.

I would be surpised if your local supermarket does not sell it however.

In large quantities, you need to look to your local cash and carry - if you have one.

Hope this helps.

Where we live the only place to get it is from a baker... Really bugs me as I grew up using fresh yeast for baking bread, and dried just ain't the same... :sad2:

The bakery department of most supermarkets will sell you some.

thanks for the replies - I'm of to Savacentre whilst DS is at training (come thursday I can't watch anymore swimming!!!) so will see if I can get some there. It was only just over a year ago that I realised that you could still get fresh yeast I just assumed that all you could get was dried, although it is more convenient and works alot better now than it used to, infact I made some bread tonight when I got home from work and we have just had it still warm with our dinner - needless to say there's not alot left!!!!!

My MIL says her friend gets it from Asda - they hand it over for free! - when she bakes a special Hungarian recipe.

I use Doves farm dried - less messy!
