Final report! - Cant believe I booked Super Bowl weekend -

Don’t worry when DS was younger and not reading he saw the Monorail coming and told grandma to hurry. They made the train but instead of getting off at BLT, the first stop from MK they rode round trip as they had gotten on the Express Monorail to Epcot and then had to get on the resort one 🤦‍♀️
I could see myself doing that!

Long read but I think it’s worth it!

So on Monday, we did not have a spectacular day at Epcot. It was the end of the night and with our special diet, it’s hard to eat during normal hours, but eating during extended evening hours is impossible. We left before 11 so we didn’t go to bed hungry. Being hungry at the end of a not so great day sucks.

I was scrambling to find something to eat before everything closed. I didn’t think we would make it to CR by 11, But I noticed that Grand Floridian had a burger that we could eat, and my son was excited by that, so I ordered it hopped on the monorail and made my way over to VGF. We stepped off the monorail at 10:56 PM. I heard a random firework go off and I was like hmmm.

We couldn’t find Gasparillas. We were a bit frantic because they were about to close at 11, my husband asked a custodial lady where it was at. She was beyond nice. She walked us all the way over there to make sure that we found it.

We got there right at 11pm and suddenly fireworks start going off at MK! It wasn’t the same show we had seen 2 days prior. Mickeys voice came on over the speakers and I felt so happy. And suddenly so relaxed. We loved the show and the music. Even on the not so great days at Disney somehow a little magic comes our way. It was the perfect ending to our night and I am so happy we stopped at VGF!

Now for the funniest best part of this story..

If you follow me on the boards you may have seen me say that VGF really just wasn’t for me when I visited back in May. Visiting when it’s not as hot as the sun outside made me view things differently. I told my husband I don’t feel so out of place here today because I’m not hot and sweaty. It doesn’t feel too fancy for us. It feels clean and deluxe. We walked past a mannequin with clothes and he said “I’d have to wear a $200 shirt to fit in here, like that guy”. I said no I think we would fit in here. He still says no. Just then we turned the corner and there’s a lady wearing basically the same outfit that I am, same exact uncommon jacket. We both look at each other and she says “we have great taste, I have those ears too”! So the universe officially squished that narrative that we don’t fit in!

My husband took the liberty of buying a small cake from the to-go case. This cupcake was beautiful, but I did not have high hopes for it because I have eaten vegan desserts and cakes many places within both coasts of Disney and they just do not do vegan desserts well. Just a couple nights prior I had a vegan cupcake at Chef Mickey’s and it was not good. So I jokingly said “if I take a bite of this cake and it tastes amazing that’s a sign that we should own here” I say that jokingly, because I would have bet stacks of money that this cake would not be good. Guys… this little cake was amazing. SO. SO. GOOD. I had to go to google to be sure it was vegan even though the label said plant based.

I had taken the cake back to CR and we ate at one of the little tables cause I didn’t want to wake up my grand daughter going back to the room so late and eating. So we sat at the table at CR and we just couldn’t stop talking about this little cake and I’m like is this how life is? Money does get you the finer things in life. Haha!! Clearly Disney knows how to make a good vegan cake but they only give it to Grand Floridian, how is that possible? Why are all of the other desserts so terrible and this one so amazing???

We rode Tower of Terror 3 times.

We rode Guardians 2 times.

We rode Avatar 2 times.

We rode Everest 2 times.

But this little stop off at VGF was the highlight of my trip!

VGF is great for 11 month or using as SAP as point chart is high and go far at other resorts with low dues. But don’t use them for SAP just sleep here!!!

Oh and I know you don’t like writing trip reports @tx911 How was your trip?

I wore jeans with Mickey’s on them 3 of my 4 park days!

I forgot to mention. I wasn’t supposed to be able to order food at VGF. Mobile order said it was for hotel guests only when I tried on my husbands phone, I gave mine a try and it let me order. So the stop was for sure a little bit of magic ✨

I'm thrilled that you had a great experience at VGF!

I had a great trip overall!

Night one we stayed at OKW. I had never stayed before. I don't want to disparage it because I know there are many who love it, but this was a once and never again resort for me. I try to stay only one night when I try new resorts for this very reason. I was very happy to move to Riviera for the next 4 nights.

At Epcot we ate breakfast at Les Halles. I love this place because it's kind of hidden back in France but very tasty. I was with some non-thrill-ride companions. We rode Soarin', Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, The Gran Fiesta Tour, and Remy. I rode Guardians by myself. Walked through Communicore Hall and got a pic by the giant genie lamp. Ate lunch at the Artist's Kitchen booth in America. I knew from going last month that this is some of the very best food at the festival, and it did not disappoint. Peppered Striploin with asparagus and a Chocolate Torte. Mmmmm mmmm good.

We were in 2 resort-view studios at Riviera, which were great as usual. That afternoon we returned to Epcot and did a dining package at Via Napoli. I love the pizza there! We saw the 645 Disney on Broadway show and had second row seats which was wonderful.

Day 2 was breakfast at Boma. This place is so spectacular. I absolutely love Jambo house, and I would 100% own at this resort if it were hard to book at 7 months. That lobby is spectacular. Boma was amazing as usually, with unique African dishes sprinkled in with more typical breakfast fare. I just love that place. We bused from Jambo to AK for the morning. Saw Winged Encounters right when we got there. That show is so cool. I hope those birds know how cool they look. To see dozens of them flying over all at once is truly inspiring. I took the opportunity to pick up my AP magnet while we were nearby. We rode Safari, Navi River, and Flight of Passage. We also saw the new Better Zoogether (this name will never stop being awkaward) show. The Safari was particularly good that morning. There were a huge group of hippos together out of the water (usually they are in the water when I see them), and the lions were out and very active. One weird thing happened at the Nemo show. I love this show, but ours was abruptly canceled 10 minutes into the show! This was a huge bummer. But, we then had the "Caring for Giants" tour booked, which was really phenomenal. I have loved every tour I've done at WDW, especially the AK ones. This one is pretty cheap too, I think $40 apiece. I also want to give a special mention to the AP carrot cake dessert at Terra Treats. It is ridiculously good and looks great too. On the way out we got the AP magic shot with Nick Wilde.

Day 2 night was at DHS. On arrival it was MMRR for them and a final farewell ride on RnR for me. We saw Beauty and the Beast, Villains Unfairly Ever After, and Frozen Singalong. They had changed and updated the comedy routine for the historians and it was hilarious! Rode RotR and Slinky Dog to finish out the night!

I'll continue in a new post.

this sounds like an amazing Disney moment!! that feeling of happiness and contentment ...the best!
But this little stop off at VGF was the highlight of my trip!
I am so glad you had such a lovely experience!! it sounds like a magical stop at VGF. It is my true favorite DVC resort and on trips when we are elsewhere (which is often, as we've only stayed at VGF once and I like to sleep around 😂) I'll longingly gaze at it from afar and usually pop in for a visit, either to eat or see the lobby.

this is a sign that you're meant to own there ❤️ I track resale prices casually since this is where my direct points are, and it seems prices have fallen back down to earth a bit with not much ROFR happening as compared to other times in 2025.
I try to stay only one night when I try new resorts for this very reason.
this is my philosophy too! I'll often tack on a night or two if it's a new-to-me resort ...which there are still a lot of at this point for me! On the DVC side, I've only stayed at BRV, Poly longhouses, BWV, VGF, CCV and after the next trip RIV and Poly Tower!

It really was nice. Last time I was there the lobby still had construction so I got to see it in all glory.

I won’t sell to buy there but if I find myself needing points VGF will be on my list. Oh how I would’ve loved to get in on that fire sale.

Looking forward to see what you think of RIV and Poly!

Day 3 we had the MK After Hours party booked for that night, so we had planned on a Disney Springs day. But we started things off with breakfast at Topolinos! It was really great and pretty hilarious too. Donald got ganged up on by 3 little boys and it was hysterical. They were peppering him with questions and I'm pretty sure he used his entire library of non-verbal communication. I got the steak and eggs which ranks among the best breakfasts I've ever eaten. After breakfast we went over the the Meet and Treat at Contemporary. The treat part was pretty lame, but they had a DJ with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy in an adjacent room. They were dancing with all the kids and some adults and it was really cool. Prince Eric and Ariel were there for a photo op as well. After we went to DS and got a whole bunch of Gideon's cookies (I got 10 myself, all of which I brought home). Did some shopping and then visited the top floor of the Coca-Cola place where we had a bottle of Mexican Coke.

Day 3 night was After Hours at MK. We rode Space Mountain, then saw the Starlight parade. I know this has gotten some negative press by some, but I think it is fantastic! We got some Pecos Bill bowls to go and ate them in the hub while we watched Happily Ever After. Idk if I was just really hungry or what, but these nacho bowls were phenomenal. After the daytime guests cleared out the lines were non-existent. We rode Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Small World, and Pooh. Pirates was down unfortunately. Of course we took advantage of free Mickey Bars, popcorn, and drinks. Then we watched the Disney Enchantment fireworks at 11pm. @VGCgroupie these are the fireworks you heard! What was cool about this was how low the crowd numbers were! The Hub was so empty so we had a great view. I thought they would go light on this second show of the night, but not at all the case. It was a full-on firework show with projections and even a second Tinkerbell flight. Not as good as HEA, but still great. We left the party around 1230a. Overall the party is great for very low crowds, but the energy of a normal day is not there, so I would not recommend this as your only MK experience on a trip.

Fortunately, we also had an MK day planned for Day 4! We slept in (or tried to), headed over to MK, and went straight to Sleepy Hollow for a waffle with berries! We rode Jungle Cruise again (best skipper I've ever had), checked out the Enchanted Tiki Room, Country Bear Jamboree, and Hall of Presidents. We saw the Cavalcade twice as it happened to be passing by. We grabbed some Spring Rolls which as always were amazing. Then we ate at Beak and Barrel at which we had to stand which I wasn't happy with. But the food and our waiter were great! In the afternoon I rode Tron and then we saw the Festival of Fantasy Parade. Went back to room for a little rest. Then we went to Beaches and Cream for dinner. I had a great burger and the No Way Jose sundae which was amazing. Someone got the Kitchen Sink sundae while we were there. That thing is just insane! After dinner went to Epcot. A band was playing at the UK pavilion. They were fantastic! We listened to a few songs and then rode Soarin' again and walked through Moana. Thought about staying for Luminous but just didn't have the energy!

Last day ate at Primo Piatto for breakfast. I love those pancakes!

All in all a fantastic trip! We did about everything we wanted to do and then some! I should mention that the weather was spectacular the whole time. A little chilly in the evenings, but worth it to have mild sunny days, and not a drop of rain.

I think you were at the meet and treat my husband went to. My son adores dancing with characters. So if you saw a 10 year old dark haired boy with glasses dancing it up that was him. He and my husband were wearing matching shirts.

I loved those fireworks! Sounds like the after hours was really good!

Beak and Barrel is super cool. But a lot like Ogas, seating can make the experience not the best. We were seated but not in a great spot.

We really enjoyed the weather and the crowds. We may choose the same weekend next year!

Pecos Bills is unexpectedly good! We eat there every single visit.

I really enjoy the shows. They are a priority for me nowadays. I was bummed we could not work Festival of the Lion King into our schedule, and the Nemo show got canceled. Winged Encounters happens hourly from 815a to 1215p. You should definitely make this a priority on your next trip. It's only about 10 minutes long or so.

Caring for Giants I thought was great. Our guide was wonderful. You walk "back stage" and then ride in a bus to an area behind the elephant section of the safari. From here you get a good look at some of the elephants, although they are still pretty far away. The main difference from the safari is that it's a much longer time watching them and a bit closer. We saw one eating and then drinking water from a large pool, as well as "spraying" dust on himself. The whole time the guide is talking and providing lots of interesting information about the elephants and the park itself. I would 100% do it again, and I also want to try the rhino one. If you are feeling more adventurous and have the time, the Wild Africa Trek is the cream of the crop tour at Animal Kingdom, and very much worth its steep price.
