The 14th amendment applies because gays do not have access to the equal protection that marriage laws grant them. Simple. And the courts (those darned activist judges) have been ruling that way. What I'm coming to understand is why so many people think Christians are all intolerant, hateful bigots. I've not run into this attitude in RL very often. (but then I do live an hour outside of the sinful metropolis of NYC) I can't imagine any Christian that I go to Mass with, or go to work with or any in my family that would say the kind of things I've read here.
