What myriad translations? Most Christian Bibles have an intro that states what great care has been taken into translating the Word of God. Please read it. Also, I've never seen a "version" that was different in meaning.

I have to tell you Rick, this kind of attitude that you are asking about is exactly the kind of thing that eventually led me to look more deeply into religion and led me away from christianity. Using the Bible as a weapon isn't a new arrangement which is why I walked away from that BS nearly 35 years ago. And everytime I see discussions like the last umpteenth pages of this thread, it reinforces that I made the right decision.

I can't understand this mentality that religious belief is to be used as a hammer to beat others into submission!!! How is that bringing the Good News of God to others???

What I'm coming to understand is why so many people think Christians are all intolerant, hateful bigots. I've not run into this attitude in RL very often. (but then I do live an hour outside of the sinful metropolis of NYC) I can't imagine any Christian that I go to Mass with, or go to work with or any in my family that would say the kind of things I've read here. I guess we're all going to the hot place because we've misled the brethren.

I think there are a lot more than just Shelly who pity your mindset because you have chosen to use your faith in God as a weapon. You use your beliefs to hate non-believers and sinners as opposed to love fellow man. The very idea of that is what makes others, and I think I can speak for a number of others, very sad for you and yes, pity you. I certainly do.

It must be a lonesome existence to live one's life with so much hate in one's heart and to find solace in a book.

Bisexuals generally don't want to marry more than one person. Look at it this way: I'm attracted to many kinds of men, but I married only one. Same with bisexuals--attracted to many kinds of people.

And plural marriage is a different legal ball of wax. Divorce laws, spousal death/health benefits, does one have to have permission from the first spouse to marry another person when the first spouse doesn't want to, who's married to whom, etc. would have to be hammered out in the courts and would require far more legal hoop-jumping than gay marriage. Personally, I don't have an issue with polygamists as long as they're not kidnapping 12-year-old girls to marry. Not for me, but hey, that's okay. It worked for Jacob and Solomon, right? ;)

The 14th amendment applies because gays do not have access to the equal protection that marriage laws grant them. Simple. And the courts (those darned activist judges) have been ruling that way. I guess you haven't been paying attention. Read up on the recent NJ ruling. :cool1:

The good news is that if we accept what Jesus did on the cross (see John 3:16), then all of our sins are forgiven and eternal salvation is ours. :cool2:
