Freedom to Marry Day Protest Planned

What happened to government staying out of people's business?

I do have a question that I've never seen answered by anyone opposed to gay marriage. How would this being allowed make any difference to your lives? How would a gay couple actually getting married make one iota of difference to your values or how you live your life or what you believe? I can't quite figure this out.

Silly Planogirl, this HAS been discussed. It's because gay people have super powers which grants us the uncanny ability to destroy the sanctity of heterosexual marriage with a single vow. I, for one, can't wait for my superhero cape and tights!

Lucky you.

It kind of makes me wish I was gay. I want a cape, too. :sad1:

That's not what I was told. I learned on TV that everything bad that happens in America is because we are nice to people like you. Now go away before more people die.

Even ancient civilizations were portrayed as pretty ugly and uncivilized until they adopted religion. It was religion that allowed the populace to be civilized.

Which changed the dynamic from just killing your neighbor to doing so for a good reason AND with your diety's blessing.

Well, waaaay back in history, in the dawn of civilization, religion permeated every aspect of everyone's lives. It wasn't really separate from society, it was the reason for everything, from baking bread to ritual slaughter. But even so, forbidding stealing and killing isn't necessarily a religous-based idea, but more rules that are necessary to have a society that isn't going to be destroyed by chaos. We may not know how or why they extend across so many religions, but they do.
I very much doubt that religion is the reason to bake bread I wouold have thought it was hunger, and we only have the speculation that what you said may be the case. I did previously say it was a chicken and egg situation as to what came first the practical need for the rules which spread into religion or vice versa.
Several parts, no doubt. The monarch being the head of state and religion was a big thing, the whole Catholic monarch/Protestant monarch issue and its bloody messes, etc. I'm sure you know your country's history better than I, and how religion and government didn't show themselves to mix very well.

The monarch being head of state and religion was our break from Rome (although under the guise of Hernry wanting any woman he could get.) An it was us and a few other old countries going through such upheavals allowed the US to get set up without it. It was largly a development of society and government issue which the US avoided as they had foundations to build on.

I know, but at least they were called civilized even if things only got worse in some ways.

I've seen some pretty incredibly comments on this thread and others like it but ARE YOU SERIOUS? You're getting all high and mighty, if not downright uppity, about the ga... sorry, homosexual population using the word "gay" for reasons other than representative of "carefree, fun, happy" etc... And in the same mindset you can justify the use of the "f" word originally intended for a bundle of sticks, in hateful reference to the ga... sorry, homosexual population?

Absolutely outrageous. Do you even know what that word, when used as a bundle of sticks, is truly in refererence too? Do you have any friggin' IDEA? Bundles of sticks were used to burn particular people at the stake. And that included ga... sorry, HOMOSEXUAL people at one time.

Again, absolutely outra... sorry, DISGUSTING.

Oh, and I'm GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY. :lmao:

My eyes, my eyes ........................ :scared:

Exactly, portrayed as uncivilised and who would have portayed them as such the religious society which wishes to put forward their version of society.

Deal. You mind if I fab it up a bit and throw in gold llame boots, a kicky utility belt and a feather boa?

Ooo, gold lame boots; nice touch. They'll match the gold lame fringe on the cape.

And ahhh, what color boa? Let me check my closet.

I really want to understand this post. Can you clarify a little more?

:rotfl:

Your answer is every bit as good as theirs usually is.

I would appreciate a good LOGICAL answer from someone opposed to gay marriage just this once. :confused3

I wouldn't hold your breath. The only answers you'll probably ever get is the Biblical one or the " they can't have children" one-both of which can be easily taken apart in a secular society.
