Freebie Thread ~ Monday ~ 1/26/09

Thanks IAHD!!!!:flower3:

I brought this quote over from last weeks thread so not to bump that one- sorry:rolleyes:

Here is their site- http://www.sohosouthcafe.com/lunch.html

It seemed like they had much more on the menu when we were there for lunch. A lot of vegetarian selections. The place is adorable inside! It looked to me like there were a lot of locals eating there. That is always a good sign!;)

Did you know that madd and I had lunch (with her DH) at the Moon River Brewing Company a few months ago? Just wanted to rub that in..I know that everyone is jealous that I got to meet her!!;)

I was in Savannah Jan. 13th & 14th.
I stayed across the street at the Marriott.
I noticed a lot of the workers from the Civic Center
going there for lunch, so I figured it had to be good too.
I can't believe I was a cool person, without even trying.

And, me and my dd ate at the "Moon River Brewery".
If there is a Brewery in any town, my dd has to
try it and get the "sampler".

I just want to make a little warning re: restaurant.com. Just recently in my area there was a restaurant where you can buy certificates at restaurant.com and pretty much overnight without warning the restaurant went out of business. So my warning is really-don't buy a whole bunch of certificates at one time from them. They are always having their sales so once you use up a couple, you can always go back and buy more.
All you have to do is email restaurant.com customer service about the closing of the restaurant that you bought one for and they will credit it back to you for the account to purchase the same amount for a different restaurant. Now their customer service is SSSSllloooowwww in responding, like days/weeks. Have had this happen several times but don't wait too long to notify them. :cheer2:

Have any of you guys been watching the Last Minute Travel thread on the BB? It has been driving me crazy. I don't sit here all day refreshing my screen for it, but I do check it a lot...just in case.

It would be nice to get any hotel in WDW for $1 /night. I'm not holding my breath, but if there are an obsessive compulsives here who need a new habit, check it out!

Oh, yeah.. .was up until midnight last night hitting refresh, then got up at 5:30, took a shower, cut on the computer, went to get ready and had missed them both for today!!! :sad2: I guess I can look for Monday! I wasn't even trying to be selfish this time and get a WDW trip. I was going to get a trip for bike week for me and DH. He loves that lots more than WDW!!! :flower3:

Bike week in Daytona??

A few times we did Disney and Biketoberfest (in Daytona) we rented a Harley in Orlando and would go back and forth. We would ride the cycle to the parks and we got the best parking spots!:cool1:

I have never tried Lady and Sons. I have her cookbook, and one of these days I am gonna make me a Gooey Cake!!
e-yummy.gif

The Gooey Butter Cake is my favorite. For those who don't have her cookbook, the cream cheese bars I buy have the recipies on the boxes! :goodvibes

We are thinking about stopping by Savannah/Lady & Sons on our way back. Worth the wait? What else should we do in Savannah?
I just love Paula

Personally, I think Paula's worth it! The past three or four times we've been, there was NO wait at all. The day before Thanksgiving, I literally walked up to the reservation thingy (outside) and asked how soon we could get in (it was about 10:45). She said 11 and we took it (that's the day we met Paula so it was truly meant to be that day!!). When we went on Sunday, there were only about 15-20 other people waiting for names to be called -there were lots of empty spaces inside while we were eating. I don't know if we've gotten lucky as of late or what's going on.

As for what else is fun, River Street is fun. You could always do a trolley tour or something like that

The wait is lllllooooonnnnnggggg. The best bet is to get there very early, sign up, then go do something for several more hours waiting on your time to eat. Her store is neat too, but if you go there, it has an upstairs section too. It looks really small if you only see the downstairs. All her books there are autographed too.

Store's very cool - she had a bunch of stuff on sale on Sunday when we were in there!

OMG! The Gooey Butter Cake is delicious. I made a pineapple one for Thanksgiving and a Banana one for Christmas. They were both fantastic, but pineapple was definitely our favorite.

I so agree!!! I like making it with chocolate chips in the "gooey" part!

:rotfl2: DH and I were just walking down the street and we saw all these people in a line! We had no idea why. I said, maybe they are waiting for a bus:rotfl2: :lmao: I was serious.

But then another couple came up and were staring at the line with us:crowded: They are the ones who told us it was Paula's place. ;)

I have a pic of DH with Paula! nah- just jokin'. We went into her store and there is a cardboard cut out of her:rotfl2: DH INSISTED I get a pic of him with her. :scared:

That's what it was like a couple of years ago when we came down on vacation and that's the only time we've seen it like that since.

Sorry to hijack again! :goodvibes I'm wasting a few minutes here at work this afternoon before heading home for the day!! WHOO HOO!!

Thanks for another week of great freebies! Now that the family's gone, can't wait to get back to the DIS!!!

I have been trying to read all the posts, but since these folks are literally sitting at their computers all day long refreshing, they are chit chatting so much I can't keep up with the thread. I think someone has verified through their hotel that they actually do have a reservation. When they went through the selection/payment process, their receipt showed $1/night, then for some reason the site gave it to them for free.

They are a "discount" hotel site, and this is a two week promo. 15 minutes a day, the available rooms are up for grabs for $1/night. Apparently when the clock show up on the site, and you start the process, there are videos you have to watch, and also they have been dividing the 15 minutes up throughout the day. So today there were two or three segments. You literally have to be sitting at that site all day long, getting on quickly, watching their advertising videos two or three times, then checking out hopefully seconds before the clock runs out. Actually, it's a brilliant marketing ploy. They have people at their site all day long, and maybe only giving away a few thousand dollars worth of rooms a day.

I think they may start a thread about the winners and where they are going. That should be interesting. Me, the selfish person that I am, gets frustrated that some people are getting these "giveaways" and I can't get one. waaaaaaahhhh. I get the same feeling watching Oprah's "Favorite Things" shows. I can't watch them, I am so jealous...:bitelip:

It's over for today, so Monday the whole thing starts all over again.

After an EXHAUSTING night last night, :faint: and double teamiung with my husband for a total of 14 hours yesterday :crazy2: I have to share with you guys, WE GOT 6 NIGHTS FREE AT DISNEY at Port Orleans in august! :cheer2:

You guys worked hard!! Congratulations! Let's see, that's probably about $1500+ worth of resort rates. Divided by 2 (people working on it). $750/PP. I don't know anyone that makes $750/day. Good work!!:thumbsup2

I just keep hoping that I will be lucky. I can't sit at the computer all day long, so I check in every once in a while. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be.. maybe I'll give myself a little pixie dust..pixiedust:

I've been working this week so I haven't been home to get to a computer much. I don't have the patience to sit in front of the computer like they expect you to...which really bums me out! :guilty:

What a great freaps meet that would be, tho', at a $1.00 a day! :rotfl:

I got this TGIF coupon in my email and it says to pass it on. I know it has my name on it.... :confused3
