Free Dining Watch 2009 - Dates Released!! Update post 1

If you are staying in a suite you cannot get free dining - we asked last years and they said no you have to book 2 seperate rooms to get the free dining
Last year the All-Star Family Suites at All-Star Music were available for the Free Dining Promo. Many people here on the DIS got free dining with those suites.

I think Disney anticipates people calling to add Free Dining to their packages. So if you can wait to book all the better but if you are already booked and want to add it don't fret it will happen too. Disney wants everyones vacation to be magical! Hope you all have a great time. -

Heres to waiting for Free Dining to be offered and for the EMH to be released. I want to finish my planning!! ;)

Thanks for the info...do you guys think it's worth calling about it? Or just wait until it's posted? Also, has anyone ever booked free dining through AAA? I usually book my trip through Disney Direct and this trip is booked through AAA, kind of nervous about them being in control of it!!!!

Booked FD last year with AAA, with a package . I told my AAA TA to call the day it opened up to the general public and she did all the calling and e-mailed me the same time. It was great. While we were there in Sept. we did the bounceback for this year with Disney and when we got home we transfered the package to AAA and a few weeks ago we changed our dates and that was done with our AAA TA with no problems.:woohoo:

I'm not sure who posted that you can NOT add free dining to an existing reservation, but that information is wrong. You can not add free dining to an exisiting ROOM ONLY reservation, but you can most certainly add it to an existing package reservation - I've done it twice. That's actually the easiest thing to do, because the day that free dining comes out all you have to do is call and have them add the code to your reservation.

I know! I have seen this on another board and this is NOT TRUE!! I have had an existing reservation during September for the past two years and called to ADD the free dining. I did not have to cancel and rebook.:confused3

Can't remember where I read it now, but I heard that IF they offer free dining (and these days nothing is guaranteed) whether you get the DDP or the new QSDP will depend on what level of resort you book. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :confused3

We ate with free dining last year and it was great, if you decide to do a dinner show (which uses 2 TS credits) you don't have to pay the gratuity (we didn't as far as I can remember at Hoop de Doo Revue, it too had unlimited beer/wine during the show/dinner). We found that the meals were quite adequate and didn't feel like we needed too much other food/snacks in between. We pretty much ate our table service credits for buffet breakfast (usually around 9:30 or so) and then ate our counter service later on for supper. I am def looking forward to going back to Disney in Sept and esp hoping to be going with free dining again! :yay:

It may be too early to speculate, but so far this has only been offered to UK residents. Everyone in the US who has booked Free Dining for this year has been offered the regular Dining Plan, regardless of which resort they're staying in. This may possibly change if and when Free Dining is offered to the general public, but for now there's no indication that it will.

Since people are insisting on replying to this thread, I've moved it to the Disney Dining Plan board. :)

I know this comes up every year. Maybe I can explain it better, but maybe not.

You can not add dining to an existing package. Free dining is a new package with a new code.

If the TA does his/her job, you won't even know you've been cancelled and rebooked. Disney transfers the deposit to the new reservation. You will probably be told they have added free dining.

But in reality, your old package has been cancelled and a new one has been booked.

The agent (whether it's AAA, your TA, or Disney) will not be able to add free dining to your package if there is not availability for that room type and those dates.

Now this rarely happens because if you already have a package booked in anticipation of the announcement, you or your agent is going to be on the phones early getting it changed.

But trust me. If you have a package booked during that timeframe and there is no availability for free dining there when you call, they will not be able to "add" free dining to your package.

And in 2007 I changed my existing reservation from All-Star Moives to POP when I added the Free Dining code and once again, they did not cancel me nor change my reservation number.

I do not use Travel Agents and I have always booked all of our trips to Disney myself. In 2007 and 2008 I booked packages months in advance of the free dining offer being announced. When the FD offer was released I called Disney Reservations directly and added the code to my existing package reservation. My reservation number stayed the same and they did not have to cancel anything.

I know. I included Disney in my description of people you might have booked with. Like I said, they would probably not have told you that's what was happening, there was no real reason to tell you that.

But the fact is, if there had not been availability at the resort for the free dining package, they would not have been able to add it on. So prebooking it, just doesn't give you any advantage.

I don't want to start an argument about it. I've watched people argue about it the last several years. I just wanted to try to explain it. :)

I'm don't want to have an argument about it either, but they did not cancel my reservation, I kept the same reservation number. Also, in 2007, when I added my free dining code to my reservation I also changed my hotel from Movies to Pop and, once again, they did not cancel my reservation and I kept the same reservation number.

Hopefully, one of the Mods will come along and verify that you do not have to rebook.

Maybe I'm not explaining it well. I'm not doubting you at all. I believe you kept the same confirmation number.

You're right, let's not call it cancelling, modifying is actually a much better word.

What I'm trying to say is, if there is not availability at the resort for free dining packages, they can not modify your reservation.

Booking a regular package before free dining is released does not give you any advantages.

Thats for UK guests. If you dont live in the UK dont even think about the QSDP plan

if its refundable why doesnt everyone do it???
That is a very good question! maybe they don't have the $200 deposit??? IDK:confused3

Well actually I think what they do is called modify your ressie because I also had a ressie last year and when it came available I called and they did what we call added free dining but they actually deleted my existing room and rebooked a new one under the dining promo and they can do this and still give you the same ressie number! Just like I'm booked at Pop and I called tommorrow to switch to CSR I would still have the same exact ressie number just different resort! In some cases and I'm not actually sure which I think it is room only ressies they cancel and redo the actual ressie because it has to be a package for free dining ! I'm not positive on when they actually cancel and give you a new ressie number but I know most times ressies can be modified for codes/promos to be added not always cancelled hope this helps some.

We booked our trip for 9/20-9/27, for THIS year and we have the FREE DISNEY DINING PLAN!! YIPPEE!!! I booked this about 3 weeks ago & got my pin code about a month a a half ago. DISNEY & POR...here we come!!!:cool1:

That is exactly what I was trying to describe!:)
