Free Dining Fall 2015? (and a whole lot more)

If a resort/room type is full for your fall dates, what are the chances that it will open up for your dates so you could switch. We're hoping for AoA little mermaid rooms, but I've been watching them for over a week and nothing. I figure some people will switch resorts when the promos come out for fall. We have never stayed there and have never had trouble with a resort filling up this far ahead of our stay. Any thoughts?

Does Disney hold back rooms and release them in waves?

Full price rooms? I doubt it. It wouldn't benefit them to release them in waves. They don't care who fills them.

I have seen things change daily though as far as what's available. I think people will definitely hop out of them when FD is announced, around the 2 month marker when people need to decide if they pay their trip or cancel, and closer to the end of the school year when school schedules for next year get finalized.

Keep checking!

One thing I remember Black saying was that most of his "guessing" from information that he gathered from the internet. One of the things that I know he mentioned was some offers to South America that had come out about FD. If I recall, those dates somewhat mirrored FD offered to US. Has anyone heard what they are offering "way down South?"

I keep waiting to hear more speculation/rumors but its been quiet! I hope some more chatter comes soon.

Idk I think it's coming. We usually don't hear anything solid till only a week before, if that. It's usually just rumors and guessing and putting past ideas together to make a guesstimate, and everyone going back and forth on if it's coming or not.. About this time. I think we are still on track and will hear some news maybe last week of April.. I'm hopeful and do think this year it's still coming. Disney went through a lay off period recently also so they are still not where they want to be with visits/on site stays more in particular, from what I've been told. Black was bringing up some teasers on his Facebook about fd talk coming soon also. So just give it a few more weeks :)

Joining the waiting game! Planning a 14-night stay at POP in mid December and FD would be absolutely amazing!!

I have a question that would fall under the "and a whole lot more" section of this thread. I thought I would ask it here since everyone seems to be both friendly and knowledgeable. I recall reading a couple of times on the Dis about how even if you book preferred, you are not necessarily guaranteed a preferred room. How often does that happen? If they are overbooked and they don't have any preferred rooms left and they put you in a standard room, do they refund the extra cost for the preferred room. I think that preferred will work best for everyone especially my parents, but I don't want to strongly recommend it to our whole party and then have it be an issue. I'm assuming that it's not usually a problem but having heard about it a couple of times made me wonder. It's probably silly to even worry about, right? :confused3

I thought it was magical express that had the layoffs. They use a third party company.

We have only booked a preferred room once, but had no trouble. They even had to move us to a different preferred room because we had asked for a king bed and ended up with two fulls in the first room. This was Sept last year during free dining at All Star Music.

Thanks, Honeybee83! That's good to know. ASMu is at the top of our list of places to stay! It must be time for me to go to bed because I always start to worry about little things when I'm tired!

Me too! The good news is, once you get all these little details hashed out, the rest is smooth sailing. Try to pre-plan as much as possible and then once you're there put on your go with the flow hat. It makes things so much simpler.

Please forgive the newbie question but who is Black? I keep seeing people refer to this person but have no idea who they are. TIA

Joe Black is a frequent Disney goer who has a knack for uncovering very accurate information about FD in the past. Unfortunately, if his info was just the slightest off, a few folks would get peaved, and would sound off on this thread. I also think he might have taken a little heat from Disney (but that is just my hypothesis). It is too bad because it was usually very accurate info and added another layer of excitement in this FD-waiting game.

Joe Black was a kind individual who had "rumors" about the free dining promo. He doesn't post on here anymore but I guess he has a facebook page instead? Certain individuals became very upset with him when his dates were a little off. They were quite belligerent about it and all the man was trying to do was help.

Got to love when a few people ruin it for everyone else! Sure do miss Joe!! I'm going to have to go try to find his FB page....

Thanks, that sounds like very good advice. I have been trying to study up so I have the best information possible for all our planning. I used to feel like a Disney pro, but so much has changed since our last visit that I'm back to feeling like a newbie! My family all still expect me to be the expert. Thank goodness for the Dis!
