Free dining comes out the same...

So now that free dining is offered for our stay Dec.15-21, I priced it out, but it comes to essentially exactly the same for our room at the Poly with a 20% off PIN for two adults, two kids. So...is there any reason to switch to that promotion I'm missing? Or just keep as is?

I don't think free dining is a good deal unless you are feeding more than 3 or so mouths and are staying at a mod or value. It is sneaky because you have to pay rack rate for the room which usually is not a good deal for the deluxe resorts.

If it is the same you want to keep it as is. Free dining is only going to be with certain rooms, so in order to get free dining there is a possibility you would have to upgrade rooms so it could actually end up costing you more.

always take the room discount, you can split meals or order less expensive things to save money on food but there is nothing you can do to adjust the price of the room

Thanks. We are already upgraded to a theme park view room (our first trip so we are splurging), and we got our tickets locked in before the price went up, which would change if we rebooked, so I guess we will keep as is.

I have no idea how we got that 20% PIN, by the way, it was just there when I called the first time to make a ressie...

Hoping there will be a 30% room only discount released...

I agree completely with taking the room-only discount. With 2 adults it is nearly a break-even with FD anyway unless you really work to spend the max in TS places. Since I don't drink pop (usually just water) and don't eat most desserts - and my DH certainly doesn't need 2 desserts :rotfl2: - we don't use the DDP any longer.

When we DID use the DDP, we would book 2TS dining where DH would use both credits (his & mine) to order beverage, entree & dessert and I order an appetizer & salad OOP. That allowed us to eat in nicer places, with less crowd, and still not spend much more. So you might consider that as an option since you are 'splurging' a bit. Of course IF ONE OF YOU IS NOT a light eater, that wouldn't work so well. :confused3 For us it is rather like upgrading to DxDP!

I would say the diff. is you will pay for food once you're there with a RO discount....so add that in. Don't know your habits,or what your fam likes, but for me,that is the difference. No matter how I slice it,for us, FD is cheaper! but it's not the same for every group......
