Free dining 2014

I have been so focused on FREE DINING (and the related threads) that I believe WDW could have moved TT to MK this past week and I would have totally missed the news! :joker:

Okay quick question as I'm trying to write down all my choices and have back ups ready so that if this offer is released tomorrow I'm not going to be scrambling.

So, we have a member of our 5 person party who has a mobility issue. We don't care how far the walk to the main building is, but we would like to be as close to a bus stop as possible.

We are limited in our choices if we all want to stay in the same room. Which resorts do we have the best chance of requesting and getting a room close to a bus stop?

On my short list I have POR, AoA, and that's it. We would be willing to go up to a deluxe if needed in order to get a room close to a bus stop. What do you guys thing/suggest? I talked to a CM who said it should be easy to get that at AoA since there are so many rooms that they can choose from to place us in, but it looks like AoA COULD be excluded from this offer. Last year we stayed at POR and it was a really really long walk to the bus stop because they gave us a Riverview room. Are there closer 5 person rooms to the bus stops? Would that request be one that has a good chance of being fulfilled there? What do you think I should do?

Thanks guys! :D

Hello all,
First, thanks to all of you for the great and informative posts. I recently began to read the posts and have found a great deal of the info quite helpful. I did not know about free dining or when it would be offered etc. We have already booked for Sept of this yr and were excited to be going. Imagine our surprise to learn that FD will be offered and we may be able to take advantage of this. WOOHOO doesn't quite capture our feelings, tho we are sure you will get the drift, so to speak. We would not have known about FD without this site. I called our card services for Disney Visa just today and was told that free dining was coming and that an email would be sent sometime today indicating that it would begin tomorrow. Charles, the customer service agent was unwilling to offer me any further details, but that was enough for us. Thanks so very much to all of you....for all you do for others...

My son called Disney Visa today at 3 PM and they had no idea about free dining offer being sent out today ?????

Tickets are required on the reservation to receive Free Dining, right? With the MagicBands, what do you do about the unnecessary tickets for someone who already has an AP? Can the tickets be separated from the band and used by someone else later?

Arabella1978, not sure if you have seen the new resort exclusions for the FD offer:

excluded resorts: Art of Animation, Port Orleans French Quarter, Campsites at Ft. Wilderness, and 3-bedroom villas, and Villas at The Grand Floridian.

Just want you to have this since AoA is one of your preferred options.
The ASMu also has the suites that will sleep 6 and you can always do 2 rooms and request connecting rooms :thumbsup2

So now in addition to obsessively checking all the DISboards FD threads, I'm now checking my email Inbox every 5 mins for a message from Disney Visa! :hyper:

So seeing as my POR Oct 17th to Oct 30th stay is an epic FAIL for FD :-( Is there a thread I could start obsessively stalking in hope of a room discount?

If you google "Port Orleans Disney" go to the "unofficial guide to PO" hit. They have maps of the property including the bus stops

We are already booked November 10 - 19 at the wilderness Lodge and I purchased dining. I have not paid off the trip yet, only did the deposit a few months ago. If this is indeed the time for free dining would they lower the price if I call? Or how does it work on an already booked with dining?
Just joined today so Hi Hi everyone!
Thanks in advance : )

Can someone post tomorrow the official dates released, for the people that have vaca dates beyond September, just in case Disney does not release those. I would hate for us all to be on hold waiting. Thank you!

Subscribed... Let me know! We would be there last week in august so may not work but they have done that week before. We will see.

learned everything I know about FD from these 2 last year, especially Smitch. Made ADRs last April on the dates she recommended and they were spot on, did not have to change a single one when FD came out. I didn't even have a resort reservation when I made the ADRs.

Please pass along what you learned on booking ADR's from smitch. I'm planning November trip for my family and need all the help I can get! Thanks!!

In all the years Disney Visa members where offered Free Dining early, I have never gotten an email from them. I just checked their site under Limited Time Offers and there is nothing.

I didn't learn from Smitch and not sure what her plan of attack is, but for me, I used Easywdw.com calendar to pick what park I wanted to go to each day. Then I chose restaraunts based on the park. I'm not planning on having hoppers so this was an important step. ADRs open up 180 days in advance and you can book 180 + 10. The + 10 is key for some places like Be Our Guest. FYI - it's my understanding online opens at 6am EST where phones open at 7am EST. I was online at 4:58am central time and had all my ADRs booked in about half an hour. It took me a little longer b/c I mistakingly chose the "breakfast" option vs a specific time. I would suggest choosing a specific time b/c it seemed they used "off" hours if you chose breakfast or lunch. For ex: I got 9:20 as an option but I can't imagine thus being a popular time cinsidering oark opens at 9 and the first hour or so is walk on. For more laid back folks this might work perfectly fine.

The only ADR I was not able to get was a pre park opening for Crystal Palace on my first day. I decided on lunch instead. Not the end of the world....this will allow us to see the Welcome Show.

Best of luck!

If you stay at a Value you get the QSDP, right? Rather than upgrade, could you combine two QS meals so you could do one TS meal? Or do they not allow that? I will upgrade if necessary, I'm just trying to get some folks to go with me and I'm trying to figure up the costs. TIA!

They don't allow that. You would need to upgrade. It's 18.65 person per night to upgrade.

Hoping someone can help out. IF free dining becomes an option for our stay in OCT/NOV and we want to upgrade the free dining to the next level does anyone know how to roughly estimate what the extra cost would be per adult? Reason being we are staying at a Value Resort and if they offer FD it will only be the QUICK SERVICE. We would like the next level. Thanks in advance for the help........ ~Steph

We do this every time, what we usually do us take what the package would normally b with the quick service and then the package with the next level and subtract the difference and that is roughly how much u will have to add to upgrade to the next level, it may not b exact to the dollar but so far it's not been that far off may a dollar or a few
