Free Dining 2014 Discussion

We did por last year with the free dining and we found that 2 meals and a snack didnt cut it lol...so my question is are u able to upgrade the free dining to the deluxe for the 5 days we are there? How much would it be for two adults if it is possible?

Unfortunately, no. If that were the case, no one would think twice about upgrading, esp me!!!
The cost to upgrade from free QSDP to the regular DDP is roughly $20 per adult per night of your package.
Meaning, if I travel alone and stay at a Value hotel for 7 nights, I will pay $133 plus some change to upgrade my dining.
If someone travels with me, we will pay twice that, and so on.

You are correct that the Mods and Deluxe resorts come with regular DDP, so no upgrade is necessary.

To figure out the cost for Free Dining, go to the site and put in your dates and room/resort choice, the tickets you need, and the number of people in the room. The price for the package (room and tickets only) is what Free Dining will cost.
You will pay full rack rate for the room, the tickets are full price, and they throw in the dining plan.
If you price out the Value and will want the upgrade, add the $133 plus change to the package cost for each adult on the package.
Sorry, but i do not know the pricing for children.

The $21 that has been referenced to is if FD is offered and you have a child that you want to upgrade to an adult so they can eat off the adult menu instead of being limited to the kids menu, it is a $21 difference.
So you must have FD on your reservation and if you have a child that eats like and adult, you can ask the CM to show your child as an adult (they will show them as a 10 yr old) and the difference is only $21.

I wonder if they'd allow that for a three year old? Upgrading? Lol, my son loves steak and chicken. He doesn't eat bread, so the hamburgers and such are out. The only way I see him getting more steak or meat options is by adult plan. I'd hate for him to eat chicken nuggets for 8 days :D I know he doesn't really require more food, but different options. Three to Ten is a big jump :)

How were you able to price out 2 rooms online? I am having the hardest time trying to figure this out. If I split my party of 5, into 2 different groups the website automatically changes the second group to the first when trying to price it out. I must be missing something?

I price it out with 1 adult and 2 kids, go thru everything, write down that price then I use the back keys and edit buttons to change it to 1 adult and 1 kid.
You can't save one and add another, you just have to write down the 2 prices:thumbsup2
I hope this makes sense:flower3:

There are all kinds of great kid's meal options. Take a look at the menus at allears.net. There is a big misconception about QS meals being nothing but burgers and chicken, but there are tons of options out there. You just have to know where to look. :goodvibes

:) so this was what I was totall planning on doing :) I have a 3, 7, and 10 year old and for $42 I think it is totally worth it for them to be able to order anything they want off the menu and get dessert also. Hopefully Disney will allow it with the 3 year old. I figure if I'm willing to pay they will gladly take my money!

Do I need to have our rooms booked in order to make ADR's 180 days out? If I book them and end up switching resorts for FD, will the ADR be saved? I'd prefer to wait and book rooms after FD is announced, but dining at CRT is priority #1!

No news yet?! Don't we usually hear about it a week or so before it comes out?

Disney has been doing a great job of sealing up all the big leaks. It's becoming a more daunting task each time. But I do my best with what I am able to uncover.

You can make reservations 180 days out without a room reservation. If you switch resorts it does not effect your ADRs. They stay the same.

Actually, I was answering a specific question about upgrading from QSDP TO DDP.
I highlighted the poster's question and answered it.
They were not asking the question you are referring to.

We are planning for 11/22 - 11/30 or 11/29 - 12/7. Based on last years free dining if offered at the same time this year we would have to take the first dates and be there over Thanksgiving. I wonder why they offer it like that during a time that will be really busy. Looks like the last time they offered free dining after Thanksgiving was in 2012.

]how do you make the reservations without a room?

On the Disney site (use link below) or on the my Disney experience app just choose, make dining reservations. Anyone can make dining reservations whether you stay on property or not, the booking window open up for each day at the 180 day mark. If a day is bookable the day will be blue on the monthly map.

This was the part of the question I was referring to in my answer :scratchin

So, someone on here said it's only $20 extra to pay for an extra adult for the DDP. Were you saying that it's $20 to upgrade from QS to DDP (if you stay at a value and they offer FD) OR is it $20 to change a kid from a "kid" rate to "adult" rate?

Looks like we were both trying to help :thumbsup2

I don't think we'll upgrade dd who will be 9 when we go BUT when you upgrade the dining from child to adult, are you then obliged to upgrade the theme park ticket from child to adult? I wouldn't think so, but this is Di$ney we're talking about......

Yes, you have to upgrade the ticket. Even for a lengthy ticket, it is only around $20. Absolute bargain!
