I have asked on the crafting and budget boards, and have been sent here to the experts....so I humbly ask....
I bought two shodowbox frames, matted with three photo openings each. I would like to frame my HM pins and photos or postcards. I would like to use the HM wallpaper as a backround for the pins, but do not have a color printer. I am afraid I will mess up cutting out the holes to line up with the holes in the mat. I was thinking of using purple paper in my laser printer, and just printed the black HM wallpaper design onto it. Anybody have any links or suggestions? Can I use purple construction paper or is there something better? Can I just push the pins through the mat? Where/how do I get the HM wallpaper to print on a full page?
Does anyone have pictures of your own completed pin framing projects to motivate me?
Thanks for your help!

I don't know that I'd want to use construction paper in a printer. With all the 'fuzz' on it, I'm not sure how a printer would react. I could be wrong, though. Check Office Max, Staples or HomeDepot. They're bound to have some specialty paper you can use (Kinkos, too).

I like your idea of black ink on purple paper. Sounds neat.

Not sure where to get the graphics, though.

I also have some doubts on the construction paper plan:
-- construction paper is bigger than 8.5" x 11
-- I think it would absorb ink and just be a big blotch, and might not even dry.
-- I have some pretty dark purple printer paper that I think was part of a Crayola paper set, available in Office Depot or even some larger supermarkets. Or, it may have come from some other brand of muli-color paper pack.:scratchin

You can push pins right through mattes -- most people do. :D

Don't worry about cutting paper to fit the size of the matte opening. Cut it slightly larger so the edges will be covered by the matte iteself.

We need Nat or Vince.....these guys are framing pros.:moped:

Hey, Ruthie! You just did some framing too!

Here are a few links to sites I made for framing....

I am not sure about where you can find the wallpaper. You might want to ask over at doombuggies.com. Someone over there might know (on the message boards). It's a great HM site.

I have framed two items. One I used a plain frame and had a mat that I bought at Michael's craft store. I placed the autographed postcard on the mat, using some of those "invisible" corners. I pushed the pin thru the mat and it kind of sticks out the back. I don't like this too much, although you can't see anything since it's on the wall. I bought one of those LTD cels that they make in the Gallery in MGM. This was on Oct. 1, 2001 and is the sorcerer's hat. The artists were there that day, and signed the matching postcard. The pin came to my home a few weeks later.

The other set I framed were 10 patriotic Mickey pins, from WDW, DL and TDS. In the center is the bell pin & card that we gave out in TDS on 9/11/02. I used a shadow box and this worked much better. I cut up some of the original matting in the frame to make a 1/4" border around the inside edge of the frame. This is so the pins don't hit the glass. I bought a new mat and used those invisible corners again for the card, placing the other pins around the centered card. There was enough room in the back to put the pin backs on and the back of the frame.

Good luck with your projects!
