FP+ for shows

How does this work? Is a certain part of the venue roped off for FP+ (so FP+ holders get the best seats), or do they let FP+ holders into the venue before others, or what? I am trying to decide whether or not to use my FP+ choices for Beauty and the Beast or not. I know, I know... but I don't do TSMM or RnRC, and DD can use the single rider line at RnRC. Last trip we got to B&tB about 15 mins. before show time. We were held outside for about 10 mins, then herded into the corner seats in the back of the theater. I was NOT happy. I am just wondering if there's any way to get a decent seat without using FP+.

You may find the green link in my signature helpful. Short answer is some places have reserved areas, others may or may not let you in earlier than standby.

As with anything, the earlier you arrive and more you are willing to wait, the more options you'll have. Arriving only 15 minutes before showtime is not going to get you good seats for much of the year.

In addition to PP, the main advantage to fp+ is a guarantee to get in. Standby you might be on a long line for a long time and not make it in when the park is really crowded. If your not going to use them for rides, the show is important, or you want to walk up closer to start then absolutely get the fp+

I just need to get used to how things have changed, now that there are FP+ for shows. For years, DD and I have showed up about 20 minutes before show time and have been able to get seats together in the lower sections, without having to wait in line. I was really surprised last year when we were held until the last few minutes before the show, then had not great seats. Now I need to decide whether I want to sacrifice a top-tier FP (which might matter to DD, if not to me) or wait in line and hope for a decent seat. It's an adjustment, for sure.
