Formal night!!

We are two weeks ahead of you with a sail date of May 4th. Bummer! I am in the Santa Clara area.

Well I love the dress! When else will you have a reason to wear THAT dress??

That is actually one of the reasons I have in my head as a reason to not buy the dress. I have no idea if and when I will ever be able to wear the dress again so it seems like a waste of money...

Special memories are never a waste of money!

Ha ha! I haven't even considered accessories! I don't think I will have money left in my "formal attire" budget after buying the dress! I'll have to see what I can find on sale or see what I might be able to borrow. The only thing I know for sure is that I will be wearing my Betsey Johnson Starburst silver shoes...although I will probably bring my pink polka dot converse shoes too for comfort!

I bought tiaras from Claire's last year for my daughter and I to wear for dinner. Check them out and see if you can find any on clearance. I think the most expensive ones may have been $15.

You should sell that dress to DCL so the rest of us can rent it! LOL :)

Well, I went back to the store and tried on the rainbow dress again. I still love it, but then I asked how much it would be to alter the hem on the skirt and they quoted me $90 just for the hem! The dress is already above and beyond my budget and adding on that much for alterations makes it almost impossible. I then went to my usual seamstress and she said based on the picture I showed her, she would only charge me about $30-35 for the hem. I don't know why there is such a huge price difference. I still just can't make up my mind on if I will buy the dress or not. I love it, but it's hard to part with that much money on something I will only wear for a few hours...

Thanks everyone for your opinions and responses!

You'll just have to cruise more :goodvibes. so as to get plenty of use out of the dress.

Seriously, they can charge so much more at the place where they sell the dress because they can. For the most part, private tailors/seamstresses will be cheaper than having any alterations done at the store where you buy something (something I learned after I had sons, who need a lot of alterations on their clothing).

If you have a seamstress that you've used before and does a good job for you, that's who I'd go with.

This is my DS on formal night, this picture alone was worth pretty much everything.

I managed to put it together on the cheap, it's not a tux, it's a suit I picked up at Burlington Coat Factory paired up with a tux shirt and tie combo I grabbed online. A pair of cheap shoes and good to go. I added a second shirt and tie for semi-formal night, so all told for both outfits, a little under a hundred bucks.

You're looking at it backwards. Don't look at it as purchasing a dress you'll only wear for a few hours. Look at it as a reason to find other places to wear it after you buy it.

It's a dress that will never go out of style because it's so unique. You'll be able to wear it for years and at any number of events and places. You'll feel fantastic every time you wear it.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE to dress up! (And, I love that lime green dress!). So, we take the formal wear, even though its a little bulky, and usually have it pressed on the ship so that it is all ready to go for Formal Night.
I don't usually feel out of place, even in my ball gown.

Happy Cruising!

You have a beautiful taste in dresses! You look lovely, as does your family!! Can I ask, where do you shop for your dresses?

Thanks for the opinions everyone! I went ahead and bought this dress today! Now I need to find appropriate jewelry...

I found this dress and am considering buying it to wear for formal night on our Fantasy trip in May. I am just wondering if this dress is too over the top. Obviously it needs to be hemmed if I buy it!) I don't want to stand out for all the wrong reasons...LOL

Do you think this dress is too "bright"? Opinions please!
