Formal night!!

this was my cousin and me with Cinderella on the 2010/2011 Eastern NYE's cruise. I have the silver shawl on. Both dresses were knee length.

on the EBTA in May, I'm not going as formal, have found several really cute cotton/jersey dresses from Old Navy that I can dress up.

You're looking at it backwards. Don't look at it as purchasing a dress you'll only wear for a few hours. Look at it as a reason to find other places to wear it after you buy it.

It's a dress that will never go out of style because it's so unique. You'll be able to wear it for years and at any number of events and places. You'll feel fantastic every time you wear it.

Good logic:thumbsup2

Ginger Renae- So happy you bought the dress. It's perfect and you look amazing. :goodvibes

GINGER-RENAE,

Hope you post a picture after your alterations. I'd love to see it. Maybe you could keep the green part at the waist and make a scarf/ wrap thing with the purple bottom part. Anyway, I'm very jealous!!

Best wishes,
Brenda

I am supposed to pick the dress up for alterations tomorrow. I know I will lose some of the purple in the front, but they are graduating the length along the sides so I am not losing anything off the back. They aren't taking enough to make a wrap though. It's only a couple of inches and the fabric is a vey light chiffon.

So now I am looking at jewelry. I know a lot of women wear tiaras on formal night, but I want something simple.

I like this tiara because I think I could wear it more as a headband.

And I like these earrings with no necklace or the second set of necklace and earrings. I also looked at hair jewelry with colored stones such as purple or green, but I don't know if it would be too much color. I never get dressed up so I have no idea what works and what doesn't work...

I found this dress and am considering buying it to wear for formal night on our Fantasy trip in May. I am just wondering if this dress is too over the top. Obviously it needs to be hemmed if I buy it!) I don't want to stand out for all the wrong reasons...LOL

Do you think this dress is too "bright"? Opinions please!

OMG! I love the dress!! It's so unique and cool, and really suits your coloring. Did you end up buying it and would you mind sharing where you found it? I have no cruise plans in the works ;)

Your dress is DIVINELY beautiful. Any excuse to look like a princess I say!

Are you going hair up or hair down? If hair up, I'd go a necklace and small drop earrings. If hair is partly down, I'd get looong earrings and no necklace. Definitely add some purple with your jewellery, it will look fabulous. I'd not go green just because the dress has so much of it already, but prefer the green over just diamond-like jewels.

I had no idea formal night was THAT formal! I think I'll be buying mine and my girls' dresses once we get to the US - I don't want to think of how crinkled they'll be by the time we fly from Australia and have 9 days in WDW!! My friends that we're travelling with have three young boys, I can't wait to see them in tuxes :-)

Not everyone dresses THAT formal. Yes, young boys look quite dapper in their tuxes. As for wrinkles, after you board the ship and unpack, you can send out your clothes to be pressed onboard for a reasonable fee.

I did buy this dress! I got it at Group USA. The designer is Jovani.

I am going to wear my hair probably half up and half down. I am going to go with earrings and no necklace. I bought a small tiara that has a vine pattern so it looks really nice with the dress.

I got the dress back from the seamstress a couple of days ago. She did the hem and pulled in the bodice for only $41. The place I bought the dress wanted $90 just for the hem.

Here is a picture. I was goofing around so ignore my silly expression. I had the seamstress leave the back long to keep as much as the purple as possible. If the length bugs me, I can always have it cut off later.

Gorgeous!!! Just know, your thread caused me to splurge and get my first long dress EVER! Didn't do prom, sweet 16 (15 for me) nor wedding. Now DH is on board and got a suit as well! Disney does make dreams come true!!

Yay! I was hoping DH would get a tux, but he said he is wearing his nice suit so that's fine with me!

Beautiful!!! I want your dress!!! You look fantastic!!

Thank you!

I know I'm late to the party but I also love that dress and think it's perfect for a Disney cruise.

The length in the back (to save the purple hem) also works great- makes the dress look even more formal. And the best part is how clearly YOU love it - when you feel good in something, you really look great in it, even if it's not someone else's cup of tea. (ignore those friends.... you look fabulous!)

I actually decided to go all out and bought a tiara. It arrived yesterday and I love it. I swear I am going to get dressed for formal night at 2pm and just wander around enjoying my dress. :rotfl:

:goodvibes. Fantastic! Have an incredible time!

We are going on a 4 day so there is no real "formal night" but will we be horribly out of place if we wanted to dress up nice one night anyway? I'm looking for any excuse to wear my "princess" dress :)

Not at all. There are always a few people who like to dress up. Some dress up every night, regardless of the specified "dress" suggested. Others don't.

There is a dress up night not a formal night that's the best time to do it.
