Forgot to mention the snake

If I see a snake I:faint:
Seriously, I know it's a phobia and I should just get over it, and they won't bother me if I don't bother them, but I still cannot help but freak out when I see one.

But hey, that's why they're called irrational fears

I have seen a lot of snakes at Disney. They all pretty much look like your basic black garden snake. Remember the snake is just as scared of you as you are of it and if you don't attack it normally will just slither into the bushes. The reason they attack is not because they are out to attack, but as a defense.

Just leave them alone and they will leave you alone. (And they eat rodents. The ONLY rodents I like are dressed like Minnie and Mickey so I like snakes! Give me a snake over a mouse ANY DAY!)

I remember when I was younger a snake jumped in the pool at a Disney resort. About 10 minutes later Disney maintanance came in and removed the guy. It seemed rather big.

We had a snake during one of our visits to TL in the lazy river- Not sure what kind it was but the cms were chasing it down with a net from the side.

Having a frog phobia and suddenly seeing one at 5am when I stepped out on our 3rd floor balcony at the BWV's was :scared1:

I had a frog attack me at SSR this last spring!! Had to take a late night call on my cell, so I stepped out on to the balcony. After I closed the sliding glass door a giant frog jumped from the ceiling onto my head. FREAKED ME OUT!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Needless to say it was harmless. It jumped on to the table and stared at me. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Great pictures, and a lot of people will tell you the snake's triangular-shaped head proves that it's venomous :scared1: ...which is exactly what the snake wants you to think, and a perfect example of the fact that most snake identifying tips are myths.

This is an Eastern Hognose Snake, and they are not only harmless, they're hilarious! If threatened, this snake flattens its head to make it look like a venomous snake. It will also raise its head sometimes and do its very best Cobra imitation.

If that doesn't work, it will sometimes flip over on its back and play dead. I'm surprised it didn't do that when you were prodding it with the stick. The fun part about the Hognose's "possum act" is that if you flip it back on its stomach, it will immediately flip back on its back and play dead again! Hognoses (they have a little snout that resembles a pig's) are a lot of fun, but like most snakes, they will bite if provoked. Usually they just leave.

I just moved to Texas and haven't learned about all the local snakes so I don't take my chances so I took pictures and managed to get it out of my yard with that telescoping pole. I didn't want my dog or 4 y/o daughter finding it. I looked it up later and was disappointed that it didn't play dead for me like you were stating. It did puff up and do some crazy hissing noises though. It was probably around 3-4 feet long and was the longest snake I had seen in the 'wild'.

Yep, they're amusing critters! Their nickname is "Puff Adder" -- how scary does that sound?!!

Yeah, that is what I was guessing. They get somewhat bigger and are often confused with rattlesnakes because of the color pattern and stocky body. I think their max length is about 5 feet or so.

We have hundreds (probably thousands) of Burmese Pythons in the Everglades, so we see plenty of BIG snakes. It's a shame irresponsible owners turn them loose, but they do. The largest live one I've personally seen was a little over 12 feet. I think the largest one we've found so far was 17 feet.

We were at WDW a couple of weeks ago and saw a few snakes. I almost stepped on one coming out of the bathroom at TL, a woman yelled "snake!" just as my foot was about to come down on it! :scared1:

Hey Jim i see you work for park services. Im a Conservation Officer in PA.

Just some advice for those of you who don't like snakes.... Make sure you buy Hawaii when they start selling it. :thumbsup2

Never saw a snake at WDW - seen a couple at Hilton Head - what I love it that people think there won't be sharks at HH or Vero in the ocean cuz it is a Disney resort :rotfl: :rotfl2:  :rolleyes1

Came home yesterday to a 3-4 ft gopher snake sunning in the middle of our dirt road. They look alot like the Eastern Hognose Snake. I had to go around him as he had no intention of moving out of the way.

I remember seeing one of those as a kid in our cornfield.

Jim, you mentioned how funny these snakes are. I have a funy story to share.

I have a cousin Jeff who is a huge dont want to mess with kinda guy. And he is terrified of snakes. He does some plumbing -backhoe work for us once in awhile. Anyway, he and a fellow who work for us were on a job and ran across a hognose. The thing flared its head up, doing that cobra imitation. Jeff hollered "Its got a hood, its got a hood"! Robert being quick witted replied "Jeff, it aint even raining". Well the thing, rolled over, played dead and they left for lunch. Came back and it was gone! Silly ol snake

O...........M...........G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EWWWWWWWWW!

I would have had to have someone call 911. That would have done me in! :scared1:

We were at OKW after Hurricane Jeanne and walking back to our Villa- DH had to give me a piggyback all the way to the room as the walkways were literally Hopping! :rotfl2:

The only snake I've seen at WDW was at AK in one of the trails - I think it was by the kamodo dragon. Anyone someone standing near by thought it was part of the exhibit :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It slithered on across an into the landscaping.

Don't like snakes and don't want them near me. I'll give them plenty of space!
