When I was in high school in the '70's - 1970's - LATE seventies

There was this campaign - "I've Found it" and smiley faces everywhere - there were signs everywhere of the "end time" a book "Satan is Alive and Well on Planet Earth" it listed all the signs pointing to "end times" (wars in the middle east - Soaring GAS prices... etc - Carter was President, and it was a hard time, house mortgages were in double digits etc...)

Then time went by...

then here it is again...

The 70's were in the same generation. Supposedly, according to prophecy geeks, the end times began with the first WW and the signs will all be seen in one generation, which is 90-110 years. And the bible says the signs will be like birth pains, which get more intense, but have periods of calm in between them. They also get closer together. It is really fascinating to read about. I read about it, but I'm not too concerned, since I am ready whenever it happens.

And the bible says the signs will be like birth pains, which get more intense, but have periods of calm in between them. They also get closer together. It is really fascinating to read about. I read about it, but I'm not too concerned, since I am ready whenever it happens.

This is a generation in bible times, which is not the same as modern times. The bible says "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away, until all these things happen." So, if even one person is alive that was born in 1914, the generation has not passed away. Generation is defined many ways. And as I said, the prophecy expert I read thinks the signs of the end times started with WW1, but he is quick to admit, he is just guessing, as the bible doesn't say WW1. It says "nation against nation".

I will be glad to send a great prophecy link to anyone who cares to hear lectures on the subject. This guy was totally skeptical until he started digging into biblical prophecy, and he has turned into a firm believer in literal interpretation of the bible. I'll refrain from further comment, though, as it seems this thread is a place for people to make fun of something that is not a joke to me, or most believers.

I don't believe that. Nowhere in scripture does it give a date. That is a select group of people trying to get attention, IMHO. Noone knows the date, but we can and should watch for the signs given in the bible. Now, you CAN predict the second coming, because it will be 7 years exactly after the rapture of the church. That is spelled out in the bible.

Now, if I see a war starting over in Israel in the next few weeks, I will come on here and say that 5/21 may be right. Either way, I am ready

For all those who are getting worked up about this date, I hope you abandon this Harold Camping guy & his teachings if nothing happens on this day. I can't imagine people stockpiling water, food, and saying goodbye to loved ones ahead of time.

I don't believe for one moment that this world is coming to an end in a couple weeks.

I don't know how much I can post here, because religion is supposedly a forbidden topic, but I would be happy to send you a link to the prophecy website of a man who attends our church. He is a scientist who has researched prophecy as such. He went into it with no preconceived ideas, so his view is interesting. He has also written a book on the subject, and the proceeds are donated.

He has quite a few audio lectures there that go into depth about the signs that are happening right now that were prophesied in the bible, as well as a daily blog that notes news that he thinks will play into the prophesies. I'll PM you the link, as I might get in trouble for putting it on the boards.

We saw one of the van with 5/21/11 on the side yesterday. It said that the 21st was the day of the rapture.

Yes, I think maybe that is what the website was saying although calling it "Judgement Day" makes it seems like it all happens at once and it doesn't/won't. It is spread out over a period of 7 years. I guess someone who is really buying into this message believe in it passionately enough to paint their vehicle. Maybe they think of it as their "witness" I guess they aren't hurting anyone...unless someone spends all they have or something wild like that.

I've always thought a generation was between 30 and 40 years. And I always thought it went from about the time Israel became a nation again. However, I have also read where some look at the original word and instead of "generation" see it as a "people" in general. So, it would be as long as there are Jews on the earth, not a generation of them. Just a different perspective.

Personally, I think the end times started from the point of Christ's death.

The reason I believe that it is "the end of the age of Grace" is because of Pentecost. That is when the Holy Spirit was sent to dwell on the earth. When the Rapture happens, the Holy Spirit will also leave the earth and it will be more like OT times when the Holy Spirit was NOT on earth, it came and went as you can read in many OT books. I think living here during the times after the Holy Spirit leaves will be very different from how we live now and it will be for the following 7 years. Just my thoughts.

It does not seem as if anyone on the DIS is buying into it. My Sunday School lesson was about "being led astray" and false prophets this morning. I brought this group up (could not remember the man's name because I had never heard of Harold Camping before) and no one else had heard of it before.

They were familiar with the Mayan calendar thing but not this one.
