We went on the 5 day to Nassau and Key West the last week of April 2012. We had a wonderful time. It was our first cruise and we did not have any of the problems others are talking about. Our room was great and we had no problems with the bed, couch, heat, air, anything!

They were replacing the carpet in some of the adult only club areas so that should all be in great shape. Obviously everything is not going to be new like the Fantasy and Dream, but we had such a wonderful time that if we never went on a different ship, we would repeat our trip on the Magic several times over.

All I know is that we did not go on the cruise to look in ever little corner and see if there was rust. On the deck, we were looking at the amazing ocean and scenery, not the railing. Maybe that's just me, but I look for the beauty in everything, I don't spend $5000 to look for things to complain about.

So my advice to those of you wondering if the Magic is too old, go and enjoy a wonderful cruise. It is the experience of a lifetime no matter how old she is!!!:goodvibes

We were on the 5/18 sailing, and I could not agree more. The Magic, to me, is still beautiful and comfortable. Were there a few spots where she was showing her age? Of course. But on a scale from 1 to 10, she'd easily earn a 9 in my book.

Awesome!! We can't wait to leave in under a month!!
:goodvibes

I agree! We went on the Magic for spring break a couple of months ago and it was our first family cruise (two young kids) and we all LOVED it. From the inside I couldn't tell it was that old and even on the decks and looking at the funnels it looked in great shape. We were very happy.

We are sailing on the Dream in 9 days and Fantasy next year so I will see the differences for myself but I still want to go on the Wonder for an Alaskan cruise or even the Med on the Magic.

Good for you OP!!! So glad you had a great time. It never ceases to amaze me that people complain or even notice the little things. I'm there for a great time and not to search out rust, worn carpets or whatever. Those things do not make a cruise!

Thank you!

I'm one of the folks that has started to be concerned. I've been worried because we've been on the Wonder twice and LOVED it! But I keep hearing about how worn her sister ship is and we're scheduled to be on the Magic next year. Love seeing posts like yours!

The funny thing is that we were on the Dream last May, and I noticed more issues on the Dream (as a brand new ship) than I noticed on the Magic last week (built in 1998).

For one, the glass panel immediately next to the Dream's hot tub in the adults-only area had been completely shattered (not sure how), and wasn't replaced during the cruise. Also, there seemed to be a lot of rust in various spots. Of course, these issues didn't ruin the cruise, or anything like that, but it just goes to show how much wear & tear these ships must take.

To me, the Magic and Wonder have that "homey", comfortable feeling. The Dream was hectic, while the Magic was incredibly relaxing. I enjoyed being able to swim in the adult pool, instead of bobbing along with the rest of the adults.

I agree completely with the OP....DON'T WORRY!!!!! You'll LOVE the Magic

we were on the 5/18 sailing too. We really liked the Magic, I certainly was not looking for anything to complain about BUT we could not help but notice how disgusting our couch was in our inside state room on deck 7, our family in the room next to us also brought this up and they had a different room steward than us. It was pretty bad you guys, I should have took a picture. Holes in it,black spots, and when I took a diaper wipe to clean the arm rest part it came off brown!

OTHER THAN THAT, I felt the ship was in great shape and it certainly didnt ruin our trip, infact we are booked to sail again next year.

it's funny - we were on the inaugural (sp?) magic & wonder cruiises - the magic cruise was great - the wonder was not - railings were falling down - elevators didn't work - and this was a brand new ship - but we've returned to disney cruises again and again - and are now platinum club members -

rugs can wear down with just one spill that is impossible to clean - railings can rust - it's sea water and there are thousands of people banging chairs, etc - but the shows - iteneraries - food - and cm's show that disney cares and provides great times and memories - which is why you go on vacations -

Some people can never be pleased sometimes. Its not going to be completely spotless. Yes there may be some wear and tear but thats natural. Does it really affect your cruise that much? Be glad that something is covered in dust or if a railing falls instead of sinking! As i like to say, look at the forest as a whole, not every tree.

Translation: Look at the ship's look as a whole, not every little spec of detail.

We were on the Magic the same time! I want to do a repeat just so we can have our sunny day at Castaway Cay!

We have done the Magic twice and loved it both times!! I have asked Gold and Platinum Castaway Club Members what is their favorite ship and each time, I am told, "There is something about the Magic, it's our favorite." I am tempted to not even try the Fantasy or Dream...... but I will!!

Cant say it better myself! We have completed 9 cruises with 6 on the Magic and have two more booked on her! The only reason the other 3 were not on her was because we did want to experience the larger ship, nice but not a Classic! and we went to Alaska on the Wonder. I know that here are hundreds of DCL fans that refer to her as their ship because of the experience.

Based on what I saw, the ship was kept very clean but was showing some wear. I think DCL lets things go a little too long. Rust is a given but they need to check the veranda railing more often so guests don't have to point it out.

You don't have to look in every nook and cranny to notice missing ceiling tiles, large carpet stains, the unlit atrium chandelier, worn bedding or chipped tiles/stained grout in the shower. These things are right in front of you. You also don't have to let these things ruin your vacation but pointing out issues is helpful to other cruisers and the cruse line.

We should all expect the best from DCL not make excuses when they fall short or make it seem like other posters are too picky. If you didn't see the things other have reported that is fine, but when you do see the same things and try to downplay it that is dishonest.

It all comes down to standards and how you live. I don't let some of these issues go at my house so I see them when I am paying to stay some place. I guess some people let things run down at home and live in those conditions everyday and they don't mind or notice it when they are on vacation.

We were on the same cruise with Kim&Chris (5/18) and also had a wonderful time. We've been on the Dream, but I love love love the Disney Magic and if I had enough money, I would follow her everywhere she sails. :)

I totally agree!:)

To be honest..IMHO some people just need to try and find some little things, real or made up, and blow it up to a mountian.

They can then be rude to others poster by saying thier standards are higher and the others who don't complaint have lower standards and live in run down homes!

A really poor arrogent attitude to my thinking:rolleyes1

Haha, I know how you feel! I'm dying to book another trip on either the Magic or Wonder!!! :)

We have sailed on the Magic 11 times and the Wonder twice. We LOVE the Magic! Our most recent cruise was 5/9. Is she worn in a few spots? Maybe, but overall the ship is kept up very well.

Sadly our only less than perfect cruise was on the Magic. The service wasn't great & because we went on right after a drydock the ship was less than 100% heck it was less than 80% IMO. We've enjoyed the Wonder many times & are looking forward to the Dream.

No mountain just stating what I saw. Never said it ruined my trip or we broke down in tears or we would never go again. It was there and I noticed it. I don't board with white gloves on but I also don't have blinders on either.

If you think the issues I cited are acceptable then you DO have lower standards than I do. If you think those things are acceptable then it is reasonable for me to think that they would be acceptable in your own home and its condition would reflect that.

I still enjoy DCL and will happily keep sailing with them but they don't get a free pass. Unlike you I won't defend the company or the man at all costs.

As far as a poor arrogant attitude it may be time to look in a mirror as you seem to attack anyone who questions your "facts" or does not spout pixie dust 100% of the time.
