We recently got a sulfur crested cockatoo (Angel)and a sunday conure (Rocky). After dinner we take them out to play with them both armed with sheets on the furniture and towels on our laps to catch their presents. Forget about how many napkins and paper towels I've been going thru.

My question is...what do you use to keep the poop from going on furniture and the floors and what do you clean up with?

BTW our birds are freshly weened so they are young and they have clipped wings so they cannot fly far.

Hi there

You sound like you're enjoying your birds. DH and I have a cockateil named Rally. He's the laziest cockateil in creation but we like him.

To answer your questions. If you let the birds out to play you can't really stop them from doing their business in the floors or furniture. When they gotta go, they gotta. That's the bad news. The good news is that they won't really hurt anything they do their business on. Its easily removed if done so in a timely matter.

There are things you can get though to clean up any accidents and prevent them from sticking too badly. Dh and i get a catalog which has all kinds of things for birds. Everything from cleaning aids to food and toys.

Drs. Foster and Smith

Visit this site and you can get your own catalog. The bird catalog is appropriate for all kinds of birds. And you'll find lots of stuff and some good articles too.
I reccommend getting the Avian Starter Kit. It has cage cleaner and a sheild, also bath spray and vitamins. We got that for Rally, and it was worth the money. He looks really good. and his cage looks pretty good too.

Good luck with your birds.

I saw this company on animal planet. It was such a great and the birds seemed truly happy to be able to be out and about.

Your question reminded me of it.

anywho...check them out!@

Thank you Maureen and issa. I did get a catalog from DH's friend from work (he's the one who got us in the bird mood ;) ) and had ordered a bunch of toys for our conure who we had to wait to get from the bird shop. But during our visits to see him we fell in love with the cockatoo and had to buy it too!

I'm glad to hear that the cleaning stuff from the catalog works, so I'll have to order some. I did get the cage cleaner and the protector from the bird shop but have not done a big cleaning on the cage yet because I'm always wiping down any poop I see anywhere in the cages several times a day.

We are having a blast with the birds and Angel actually says "hello" already and something that might be "oohh" when she climbs up to her perch after putting on a show.

issa-I did think of the flight suits as I saw them in Bird Talk magazine, I guess I will try them and see if they will work. It probably is a lot less work than cleaning up after them every few minutes. My conure goes alot more than the cockatoo.

Have you put some newspaper or cage liners in the bottom of the cage? If you haven't then do so. Then you don't have to worry about the bottom getting too dirty. Dh also adds kitty litter to the bottom of Rally's cage. This helps us from seeing so much bird-do and absorbs some of the pee. Plus Rally loves the smell of the litter. So we actualy clean the bottom of his cage out once a week. And he does fine with it. Give it a shot.

BTW I have seen flight suits in the catalog. They look very cool, but I'm not getting 1 for Rally, we already know he wouldn't like them.
