For those that stockpiled...

At the beginning of the pandemic. Have you made your way through all the food and TP yet? We haven't and I'm sure ready to see it all gone. I want my storage space back.

Actually we added. I bought some canned veggies, extra tuna, chicken, beef stew. Before I had one bottle of lysol cleaner, I now have one in use and one in reserve. Things I might buy one or two, we now have 6 or 8.

I got a little freaky in the spring, when I'd make a bj's cart for 20 items and by the time a shopper did the shop , I was down to 12 things. And staying up to midnight to get a shopping time for walmart pickup. Then make a cart and not know what I'd get.

I don't want to deal with that again.

I am maintaining my stockpile of tp. I’ve been very deliberate with food purchases and have about a month’s worth of meat in the freezer connected to my fridge. Food management and meal planning has always been a strength of mine. I want to be ok in the event I can’t shop for a while.

I haven’t been able to find napkins for about a month. Cleaning supplies are still hit or miss but I have a decent stash of those.

I’m also finding that spices go in and out of stock. So I just make sure that I’m replacing things before they’re empty. I don’t foresee any huge shortages, just weird things.

Food, Clorox wipes and paper towels - yes.
TP, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and napkins (albeit brown Taco Bell style lol) - no.

Funny, we moved in May and our new neighbors were on their porch when we were unpacking. I sheepishly told them that if they needed any TP to come on over. I was SO embarrassed because I didn't even realize how much I had until we moved.

Yes, that's how we ended up with all the extra stuff, as well. A month of scavenger hunts for groceries put us in panic mode. I'm going to take a box to the food bank. Even though we would eventually use it all up, it feels like the right thing to do.

Our air hockey table is covered in TP. So, believe me I get it.

We rotate it and replenish as we go. That way we get everything eaten and nothing goes bad and we keep our stocks if we need them.
I've been pretty good about rotating frozen items. Our freezer looks normal at this point. It's just the canned goods that are overwhelming me.

I didn’t stockpile food. I usually have a pantry full anyway. I did buy a giant bag of rice at Costco, though. :)
I just ordered TP and paper towels from Target online. It was shocking to see them in stock for shipping!
Got a 5 pack of Clorox wipes from Costco when they were briefly online. Sent some to school.

The only thing I even kind-of-sort-of stockpiled was disinfectants and that was inadvertent. Lysol-type wipes and other disinfecting cleaning products were extremely hard to find. To improvise I grabbed a couple of bottles of rubbing alcohol and a couple of 10% hydrogen peroxide and a big 2 litre thing of Pine-Sol. I stopped aggressively sanitizing everything in sight back in June or so and still had a whole bunch of product left.

You might want to hold off. I just was a blurb on, I *think*, GMA, where they said stores are reporting that people are stockpiling again for the second wave. Some items, they are already running low on.

Since my freezer is small, I had to restock a few times. The one thing I was worried the most about replenishing was toilet paper. The toilet paper manufacturers and the stores assured us that there would be plenty eventually.

But, I noticed, when they were in stock, it was no longer on sale. E.V.E.R. The ONE time I saw Target have enough of my brand online, I didn't buy enough packs. I didn't want to be greedy, in case other people were looking for it. Well, you know who ended up looking for it a couple months later, when again, it was no where to be found? ME.

It never was back in at my local stores or online the way it was promised. I was chasing around town trying to get my brand. Now, I know better than to listen to the manufacturers & stores saying they'll have enough. Fool me once shame on them. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'm stocked up for a while now. :thumbsup2

If I had a car, in the rear view window, I'd have a sign saying, "I brake for toilet paper." :p

You're probably right. If the cases keep rising the way they are, who knows how long we will be stuck in this house. We will eventually work our way through everything.

I don't think you understand. My family also has medical reasons to limit contact. But we didn't feel like that required stockpiling 8 months worth of toilet paper.
I understand. We are in full isolation, not limited contact. And we have about 3 months worth of TP, not 8. But thanks for the judgement.

I misunderstood what you meant by

At the beginning of the pandemic. Have you made your way through all the food and TP yet?

It made it sound like you stockpiled in March and still had stuff leftover 8 months later. I apologize.

I anticipated the shortages and stocked up on all kinds of supplies back in Jan and Feb and added items as I found them...I still have plenty of wipes (Lysol and Clorox) , cans of disinfectant aerosol spray (Lysol and Microban), over a dozen bottles of disinfectant spray, lots of TP and paper towels, hand wipes, antiseptic soap, etc - you name it, I bought it - one piece at a time - I did NOT clean out a stores’ supply nor hoard for hoarding sake...I’ve given all kinds of cleaning supplies out to family and friends...I also bought peanut butter, jelly, pasta, sauce, frozen veggies and meat- I’m absolutely ready for ‘round two’...

I was careful to buy what we needed and kept replenishing earlier than usual, so our stockpile was never super large to start. I have been keeping a backup of single items like syrup, 2-3 items for things like chicken broth and spaghetti sauce, Costco package of tuna, but not like 5 or 10 of an item. I normally buy TP at Costco, but when things started going south I bought a package at our local grocery store. I still have that pack, even though I have bought and used a couple of Costco sized packages since then. That is my "emergency backup TP" and I plan to keep it until the end of the pandemic or until an actual emergency. Otherwise, I oopsie duplicated on antacids at Costco, so we have a lot of antacids. I just realized I was down to my last package of angel hair pasta, and that was a surprise.
