For those that stockpiled...

I went to Publix this morning. The TP and PT shelves were about 60% empty, but they did have some Lysol wipes in stock, one per person, so I got one. I have a couple at home already, so I should be good for a while now. Other than that, there were a few spotty shortages, but I expected that. I was able to get everything I needed. I did all of my Thanksgiving food shopping, except the Turkey (Publix doesn’t have them in stock yet, so I may run to Target after work). I have my kitchen freezer full, and my basement fridge freezer full, so it will take a little organizing to fit a Turkey in. I probably won’t need to go to the grocery again until mid December.

ETA - I got my Turkey! 23 pounds of gobbler for the three of us. We LOVE Thanksgiving leftovers!

This thread has been enlightening. I wondered if people still had huge stashes of toilet paper after buying it by the truckload earlier in the year.
At one point in April, when we were down to no actual toilet paper in the house, the store was empty except for a big package of Scott's. I bought it. It is now November and I think a third of that package is still left because everybody protested.
:rotfl:
We have a package of Scott - 12 pack I think- that has two rolls missing. I've been moving it around the house until I finally stuck it under the sink in the spare bathroom upstairs. NO ONE wants any part of it, yet I'm loath to toss it just in case!
God help us if we are so desperate that we've got to use the leftover Scott, it means things have gotten very bad!

I've been enjoying this whole thread, but keeping quiet until the great Scott posts.
I grew up on Scott. Living single for decades, I never bought anything but Scott tissue. Got married to a Charmin guy, and gave up the Scott efficiency battle when DH would walk to the other side of the house just to avoid whatever toilet had the Scott. It was a battle to give up my frugal ways, and I hated changing and buying TP more often, but I adapted.
When the pandemic started and I scored a big package of Costco TP, it turned out to be a brand we could both live with. Yes, it takes up a lot of room, but we found a great spot for it right in front of my car in the garage. So if I pull up too far, all I bump is TP. :)
That one package took us through the shortage, and I think we've restocked twice since then? I'm glad not to have TP on our weekly shopping list and constantly be looking for coupons for it.
I might buy the next package a bit before we are really out, but I wouldn't keep more than one extra Costco sized package. That's a whole lot of TP for our family of 3!

So, ignoring the fact that I was being a jerk earlier in this thread (besides to say, yes, I'm sorry), due to an extensive explanation regarding my crowd anxiety and shopping...

Life’s too short for cheap or scratchy TP! 🤣

We didn't do huge stockpiling as we normally keep a pretty well stocked pantry/freezer, 1-2 weeks worth of most stuff and 1-2 months of meat . So during those first months we bought one or two extra of our most used items to extend our need to shop. However we just used stuff at a normal pace and replaced at a normal pace after the first wave of panic buying that seemed to hit the stores.

The only thing I can think of that we stocked up on more than usual was paper products (because of other's stockpiling it was hard to find some weeks so I bought double my normal rate a few times) and that was only for those first months and by summer was back to our normal rotation of buying so that we have one open, and one backup. We are Charmin Strong people. I never did buy Scotts. LOL I did buy generic a couple of times and it was fine. I was picking up stuff for family and friends and if they weren't picky I just picked them up whatever was available, but again, no Scotts.

In prep for winter and winter storms, I have done a little bit of stocking up on some canned items that we use weekly and put some extra basics in the freezer, but again only a few extra of each item. Enough that if it's out at the store on one trip or we get hit with (another) ice storm we can go one or two weeks without replacing it.

However I have up'ed package size for Paper Products. I used to buy the medium sized multipack of tp/tissue/papertowels/plates because it was a better price but now when it's available I buy the mega packs LOL, so I guess that's a weird 2020 Stockpiling side effect.
