For those of you who love Palo.... Would I regret not going there on my first cruise?

We didn't do Palo on our first cruise, because we wanted to experience all of the dining rooms. We have done Palo on other cruises, and it was a very nice experience.

we always do Palo on Pirate night because we have a 3 yr old DD and she isnt really into it and we prefer the Palo menu to the Pirate night menu any way.

We are going on our 7th cruise soon. We've never eaten there. I don't know how I could eat anymore than I already do.

Our first cruise was 7 nights and we didn't do Palo (or Remy). We never felt like we were missing anything. We enjoyed the MDR experience! We're going on our second cruise this summer for 5 nights and I don't believe we'll do Palo again either. Honestly, I'd rather put the extra money toward the spa or drinks. :) If we're lucky enough to continue cruising DCL, maybe we'll try it one day! That being said, as others have said, we don't know what we're missing because we haven't tried it....

If you can do both brunch and dinner, I say go for it.
Its a special evening for a couple, its a beautiful quiet meal. Sometimes the dining room becomes loud, this is not an issue at Palo.
Plus the food is delicious.......

Have fun

You know there's a new Pirate menu?

That is the only thing that makes me sad about missing it in a couple of weeks. I liked the other menu too. But my parents and I all agreed that for our first time on the Magic we wanted to get the rotational menus. So Pirate Night in Palo it shall be.

thanks for the advice guys! for the record, I have a kid that will be 9 on the boat, and we all appreciate good food, which is hard to come by where we live, outside of our own kitchen

although, we are all so busy now, that is less common than it used to be

Palo on the Magic is my favorite of all the ships. Felice was the manager there the last time we were on board and he always makes sure we are well taken care of.

If it was a 3 nights cruise I'd suggest going for the brunch only. But you'll do more days so I'd suggest you try brunch AND dinner if you can afford it.

We are getting ready to go on our 5th DCL cruise. We have only done Palo Brunch, and I really have had no desire to do dinner. We did not do Palo on our first cruise but have done it on all others and wouldn't miss it. The price is manageable and the dress code very comfortable. Its nice to have some special foods that aren't offered with the regular meals and not have a ton of kids around as well. We would never skip it now :)

That's like saying "I prefer my Mercedes to a Ford"

and isn't it redundant: I would assume that you prefef Palo's dinner menu to ANY of the MDR menus :smooth: (I know that I do, but I couldn't eat like that all of the time)

.......
But NOT "back to back" meaning Brunch and Dinner the same day OR Dinner Tonight and Brunch tomorrow. It's delicious but you will NOT feel: right / good / well afterwards for a day or so. Voice of Experience!! Just Saying!!

If a Palo dinner wasn't included in our wedding package we wouldn't be going on our first cruise.

Unfortunately, because of placement of Pirate Night and the Sea Day, we do have to do dinner then brunch. But we have dinner at 7:30 (earlier than our regular late seating), and I've told my parents we will not have breakfast or will have very little before brunch at 12:30. (Fortunately we have the Princess Gathering and Frozen Gathering to distract us before brunch.)

We loved Palo for dinner when we went on our first 3-Night cruise. Unfortunately, my husband was extremely sea sick and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate him. It also was the best steak I've legit ever had.

I certainly don't think you'd regret not going. There is so much to see and experience for the first time you'll have your hands full. With that being said we have dined at Palo on each of the 4 cruises we have taken and we'll book again this summer when we are on the Wonder. We usually go with family so we book the Brunch for a larger group (usually around 6 people) and then dinner for just the two of us. To us it's a chance to get away and have a nice quiet meal which we rarely do at home. Also the value for the meal you will have can't be had back at home. We'd easily spend $200 at an equivalent restaurant for the two of us with the same type of quality and service. I think this debate is similar to the Concierge/Non-Concierge debate. There are certainly benefits to each so it really just depends on your personal style.

I was unimpressed with Palo in December, both brunch and dinner. Don't get me wrong, the food and service were good, but at $30 a person (and a reasonable tip for the server), I didn't feel like it was as good as it used to be. Now, we've been six times, so maybe familiarity bred contempt for us. We plan to skip Palo in Alaska in July.
