For Those Mad About Disney Visa's

Is it that they don't offer any discounts, or just not ones you want to use? If they offer discounts that you don't wish to redeem, that is completely different.

It seems that these 'incentive' credit cards are becoming less and less valuable. I haven't found one that is worth my while. My DC membership was okay, but not that great. Better than nothing. Last year I grabbed the FTP. We were going anyway, but this allowed us to upgrade to the Polynesian. If, in fact, the silver plan has to be added, it is not a great deal. Most people, especially those with younger kids, just don't eat the way the silver plan in meant to be used. This year we are going again. And yes, I'll be buying an AP. But not for room discounts. Of course I'll be more than happy to take any discount I can get but staying at a value resort isn't going to reap any huge amounts in discount dollars. But, the AP, used over the course of 3 trips, totaling about 20 days in a 365 day period, sure will save me some money. It breaks down to about $20 a day to get into the parks. So, if they stop room discounts with the APs, oh well. Nice while it lasted. I'm sure not going to get my undies in a bunch because DisneyVisa didn't approve me for their 'less than useful' card. I'll just go when I can afford to and stay where I can afford to. And if a great deal comes along, then so be it. Let's keep in mind here people...banks are in business for just that...business. Sorry if I've come across harshly. It just seems that we are getting really hot-headed here. Life is too short.

I did not buy a lotter ticket so I did not expect to win. I did however enter an agreement with Disney Visa and I am not happy that they are not providing the consumer with any discounts as promised.

Did they not recently offer a kids play free offer? It sounds to me like there are other offers as well, just not the kind you like. It sounds more like an expectations problem on your part, rather than a performance problem on their part.

Wow, people really seem to have some strong feelings on this.

I had the club card and now the visa. We never got the best deals from the vacation club card then and we wont get the best deals from the Disney visa now. I dont see what the fuss is about concerning that aspect of this. You always got a better rate by not taking the package and using the AP or Florida resident rates. Someone already broke it down and put it in this thread. I did the math many times with the club card and we were always better off using an AP code to get the very best savings and rates. The same is now true with the Visa. Disney certainly never implied that you would get the very best deals simply because you were a visa card holder.

Concerning the charge that Disney isnt giving discounts to the visa holders - I'm sure Disney would respond that they are providing discounts to visa card members. The problem is they are not good deals as far as I'm concerned. But then, again, the Disney vacation club card didnt provide the best deal either. You could find better rates if you searched, didnt take their plans and found the ap or florida rates.

The Disney visa is a dissappointment if you thought you would recieve some great deals through it. It seems to be clear to all of us now that that simply will not be the case. I think that is why a lot of people are venting. Disney certainly has dissappointed them in luring them to get the Disney visa. In that respect I can understand so many peoples dissapointment here. The only good part of the Disney visa seems to be the 1% rebate. But certainly they are not providing large incentives or deals for card holders. They obviously feel they dont have to. The only way they will perhaps is if people start dropping the card or complaining. Which may happen.

If I was in charge of Disney I would have their visa card offer a code for Visa card holders equal to the AP or Florida rates. I think that would make a lot of their loyal card holders happy. It would be good relations and I doubt that it would cost them much at all. In the end it would be good buisness. However, with the pressures of Comcast takeover and now renewed pressures on the company bottom line and Mr. Eisner keeping his job it wouldnt surprise me that we never see that and see less and less discount codes period. I'm an old hand at this and I am afraid to say that the best days of codes and discounts may be behind us.

My gripe with Bank One is that I received 2 different answers to my question regarding my eligibility for this package. No, I did NOT receive an insert; however, some people were told you simply had to be a NEW cardholder, while others jut booked the package. It is not too much to ask for and receive a straight answer.

I feel that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, and I also happen to be dissatisfied. My DH is a charter cardmember who also feels that the promotions have been minimal. I am a non-cardholder who did not receive a "special insert," so I cannot take advantage of this offer. After calling both Disney and Bank One, each said the "other company" makes the decisions on what specials are offered. I find it hard to believe that Bank One is in charge of deciding the WDW promos. As I stated earlier, I received 2 different answers from the Bank One representatives to whom I spoke. I think they should know what is going on and provide the consumer with correct, valid information. It shouldn't be a guessing game as to who exactly is eligible.

I also have received NO response from either company (in response to my e-mails to each.)

yes, they did but unless you could go the dates they had
on there and did not have an AP you couldnt use it. It was
a timed promotion and included tickets, neither of which I could
use. Hasnt been anything since to the general cardholder,
just "special" ones...

Plus, I was talking more about getting an incentive to use the like discounts at the disney store, or at the parks when shopping/dining. We got 10% off with the disney club card.

No, i dont expect to recieve huge favors from disney/visa
it was just the impression they gave when we first joined about
all these great deals. Well, if they are so great how come I have
yet to use one? Besides, there is no "deal" for me at this point (2004)
and I cant wait forever to book a trip.

if I don't like what they offer and how they do business, it is my choice to move on. That's it

That's exactly right.

We think the Disney Visa works very well for us. We charge everything imaginable on it and the only problem we have is that we'll hit the yearly limit before the year is up.:D

There are a lot of companies who offer things that aren't of any use to me, that I don't like ,or that I think are useless. I don't take them up on their offers, it's that simple. But, I certainly don't get angry about it either.

Btw, they did offer triple reward dollars for shopping at the Disney Store or Disney.com during December.

We also put many things on our Disney Visa and are very good clients in good standing. I have lots of choices as to whom I can give my business to in regards to a credit card. Just got 2 more offers in the mail today! This whole fiasco has made me questions just how good the Disney Visa is for our familly. They do give offers, not any that I have been able to use. Would have been interested in kids for free, but it was limited to a certain travel date that was not feasible for me. So when a good offer finally comes down the pike, I was not eligible for it. But since I am a card holder I have every right to voice my concern. They invite feedback. They want to hear from their cardholders. I was told this by the 3 different supervisors that I spoke to. Customers are important to them. Now if they feel, as some people do, that they have not done anything wrong, then I will pay them off, cancel my card, and owe them nothing too. That'll be my choice and I'll live with it.;)

ITA! This is not the first time a company has done targeted marketing. It's not like everyone is automatically entitled to every discount offered by Disney.

Bravo!

Of course the key word is "entitled". Some do believe they should be constantly offered a discount, of the kind they want and when they want it.

Obviously some of us that are venting are being misunderstood.
I do not believe that I am entitled to every discount available, BUT as a Charter member I could have been offered some form of vacation discount by now. To date, I have received zero vacation package discount offers from my Disney Visa card. 0% interest for 6 months is not a discount, 7 nights for 4 is.

I live in the Dallas area, so the Disney parks are both over 1100 miles away. My family cannot just pop in for the weekend. Airplane tickets pack a punch on the vacation budget, and driving takes a big bite out of the time we have available. With two children in school (a school district that does not excuse vacation absences) this promotion would have been magical for us, since it is during their summer vacation. If we drove, we'd have had four days to see the parks. The cost savings would have enabled us to fly thus enjoying the parks for the full week.

My biggest gripe was when reps from both Bank One & Disney pointed the finger at the other partner saying it was the other's fault that the promotion was not available to current visa holders. I would love to take my family to WDW for the 7 nights using the Visa, but I can just as easily use my AMEX to go to Universal Studios if my business is not considered of value to them. My Starwood/Amex card sends me vacation offers all the time. Still, I have held onto the Disney one in hopes that I might someday receive some pixie dust.

Very well said Troyfus!

I've started to look at the Starwood Preferred guest program. It is a little complicated but it looks like an easier and quicker way to earn points. I would hate to leave the Disney Card and move to an AMEX card so I keep hoping that if I express my concerns to both Disney and Bank One they will listen to their customers.

OK, guys and gals....here's the big scoop!
(Since the Starwood AX card was brought up!)

We have the Starwood Preferred Guest AX and that's how we get FREE airline tickets on SWA, free companion pass for DH on SWA, and great rooms at the S/D!
Since we have free airline passage, we are able to buy APs, thus, we are able to get great AP rates....about 40-45% off room rates!
(if we decide to stay at WDW resort instead of S/D).

Fellow DISers PM, and folks ask me all the time, how can you afford to go to WDW so many times?!?!

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out!

What are the fees on the card?
How are the points earned?
Are free airline tickets only for SWA?
Sounds interesting.

*I think I pay around $50 annually.
*Points earned on purchases, sometimes points are doubled and tripled with AX membership rewards!
*Tickets for any airline-- SWA just has a better Frequent Flyer Program than the others.
*It is!:D

I know a lot of people have said that there haven't been any offers for Disney Visa members since the Visa came out, but I think there have been quite a few. Right now, there are some for Disney Cruises, Disneyland, Vero Beach, and I think another one. Sure, they're not for WDW, but they do have to offer things for a variety of markets, not just Disney in Orlando. And they did have the kids play free package, and yes, I know you had to be travelling between certain dates, not have APs, and have young kids to participate, but having offers that please everyone all the time is impossible. The kids play free didn't help me at all, but I thought it was a great deal for those who could use it. We have APs, so even if I can get the new 7 nights for 4 package, what good would that do me to pay for admission (the UPHs) when I already have it???

Isn't that the case with any code though? Disney doesn't relase codes for AP holders or general codes that are good from 1/1-12/31, they're always just for a certain time frame and if you can't make it then, oh well. And the kids play free covers up though June so that's actually a pretty big window.

My mother and fiancé are Day 1 cardholders (as am I through their accounts) and I just got an account in my name that just arrived and hasn't even been activated yet. So odds are I could get this new promotion, though it wouldn't help me as I have APs, but even if I couldn't, I'm still overall satisfied with the card as there have been many other offers for vacations, plus other Disney entertainment and promotions regarding reward points when shopping at TDS. I never expected the card to 'replace' the DC in offering a constant discount, as the Disney Visa is free, whereas I had to pay a membership for the DC and discounts was a perk that I paid for.

The Disney Visa has worked exactly the way I expected. I charge everything - Cable bill, Cellphone, food, etc. The trick - I pay it off every month. So for my trip in August (I am a member since Day 1) I have $350 from my 1% back. I also used $150 last October.

Did anyone consider that there are more people out there like me?? People who use their credit card and pay it off every month without spending a dime in interest??? Would you offer them incentives? I wouldn't.

Like you, I pay my bill off every month. However, doesn't the credit card company/bank get paid every time it is used? I thought I was told that they were paid 3% of every transaction.

I have become more and more disillusioned with Disney, especially when I compare them with Universal. It just seems like your dollar goes so much farther there, and their discounts aren't a mystery- AAA, Fan Club, Entertainment Rate, AP. These are basically available to everyone, not like a "random" postcard or an insert in certain credit card bills. I love the mouse, but this latest discount has me upset.

:earseek: I didn't realize that a vacation at Disney was so compelling.

That's exactly how we use the card and we think it's working very well. We don't fly a great deal, nor do we travel a lot other than a yearly vacation, so the miles rewards cards are pretty useless for us. I refuse to have a card that makes me pay them to have it.

I can understand that some people don't find the card useful. I can also understand wanting to go to WDW and not being able to afford it without a price break. What I don't understand is people thinking that somehow that it's WDW's responsibility to make a vacation affordable for all.

There was a time when discounts for WDW were unheard of. Honestly, I'll be thrilled when and if things get back to the way they used to be. Full service and full price. I don't go to WDW because it's a bargain.

Peacegirl, I understand your feelings as well. It does seem on these boards there is the feeling that I am entitled to my discount, it better be a good one, no it better be the best one, and if I dont get it I'm mad and I'm going to Universal.

I'll most likely get flamed for saying that. But oh well.

I still contend that those packages never were and are not now the best way to get a deal anyway. But that perhaps is a discussion for the budget board. I also looked at the starwood AE, I dont see how that card is any better than the Disney Visa. At least for those of us who dont fly a lot. I think it is not as good since you have an annual fee. Just MHO.
