I am so on the fence about getting the PAP or just getting military discounted tickets. I know the PAP is a great deal right now.....but only if we do indeed use them for a 2nd trip before they expire. I always get 2 trips out of an AP but we can also get the special military tickets each year as well. I thought this might be our first YEAR not going to Disney (a little feraked out about the new FP+ system)...but I just booked BCV for Aug. for part of our trip...still need to figure out the other days. Sometimes getting the AP's make me nervous....for the "WHAT IFS" ....what if we don't go next year.

We have APs and 10 day tickets, about 10 years worth.

Since we don't spend as much time in the parks anymore, we use 10 day non expiration tickets that we buy from UCT using the MS discount the most.

WOW 10 years worth...that is awesome. :) Do you have AP vouchers too??

Yep, AP certificates. We schedule our stays in cycles, matching the media to our schedule. We also match the resorts to the parks that we intend to visit. BWV for Epcot and DHS, VGF or VWL for the MK. Currently AKV and the AK is off our list.

We did the same thing.....same parks over and over is not worth it. We cycle our resort stays based on where we intend to visit (parks wise) also.

We buy a simple MYW pass - with hopping - for the number of days in our stay. If you go through ebates and orbitz right now, you can get a 20% rebate - usually we use undercover tourist.

Oh how I wish we had a pile of tickets.

We usually buy to meet our needs that year. We currently have annual passes. For about 3 years prior to that, we got our tickets from the YES program. Way back when non expiration tickets were not a lot extra, that is what we used.

I have no idea what we will do next. We are not planning multiple stays in a year for the next 4 to 6 years. DD in college and DS a sophomore in HS. So, not even sure when I can plan our next trip. Ugh...:sad2:

Our dd just graduated from college in Dec. Our oldest son is in his 2nd year of college and we have a 9th grade son. SO NONE OF THE SCHEDULES MESH. Haven't since our first went away to college. It is so hard to figure these trips out anymore. I don't think we are going to do AP's this trip either.

Bought the DVC PAP's in fall 2012 and used for May 13 and Dec 13 trips. Both trips were planned with little chance of cancellation so very safe purchase. (hmm just remembered their still good until May ;) ) Normally it's MYW tix . I actually buy anytime I get a few extra bucks. Currently have 3- 7 day and 1- 6 day tix in a safe place. depending on time of year we go is whether I upgrade to PH's later. We are always going to go and prices are always going to go up so why not buy for the future. That's what we did by buying into DVC so it only makes sense.

We usually get WDW PAP so we can do Holiday vacations 2 years in a row @ BCV home then switch to DLR PAP (we are So Cal locals) the NEXT 2 years @ VGC home! Although since they just came out with Premier DVC discount & we STILL have the WDW PAP's we just thought to bite the bullet and upgrade! Wished now we had more points to borrow from!
We have just enough for a couple of weekend ressies @ VGC ....... considering we were NOT expecting to do ANYTHING @ DLR until 2015!! Oh well, my kids did mention that most of their friends have AP's THIS year so all will not be wasted!!

We only bought enough points to go every other year for about a week. For this year's trip, we're getting a five-day hopper, and two days at Universal. We'll probably do the same for the foreseeable future.

We have always purchased the 10 day, hopper non-expiry passes. Last year (DVC PAP special) and this year, it was APs for us. We had way more than the normal trips planned.

Not sure what we will do next year. We are planning a DCL cruise again but not sure if we will visit WDW at all (unless we cave in and visit for F&W or Christmas). We want to take a break and take a short trip elsewhere.

I see the 10 day passes in our future again. Will purchase them and keep them home. We also don't spend as much time in the parks and enjoy the resorts.

We normally do the Y.E.S. Tickets but it's not that much of a discount anymore.
I'm still not sure what we are going to do.

We used to just buy the park hoppers and go every other year (and then go to HHI/VB every other year)...until 2012 when they offered the $399 PAP special. We now get the PAPs and plan 2-3 trips with them and then let them expire and do the beach in between. So, 2013 we went 3 times with the PAPs (Jan, Oct and Dec) and this year we have HHI booked for Aug and plan to go back to WDW for a big trip in Aug 2015. I am about to buy the PAP special and will wait to activate them (we did add 4 nights at WDW this Aug for just my 2 DDs and I before our family HHI trip...so us girls will activate our PAPs then and use them in Aug 2015 as well...DH will wait to activate in Aug 2015 and DS-17 will likely not be going back to WDW for awhile...he has no interest).

Just got 2 of the 10day non expiring hoppers yesterday from ebates/orbitz for $616. each and our hoppers usually last us 8-9 trips.

We used to get the 10 day non expiring but they've gone up substantially in price the last few years. The last two trips we've just bought plain old 4 day hoppers. Yes, it's more expensive per day but I'm shelling out $1200 at once vs over $3000 at once. This time, if we decide we need a fifth day, we'll just add it when we get there.

We can only afford to go once a year so APs do us no good.

You could go once a year but bump it up a week each year...that way you can use AP for 2 trips...then let them expire until the next trip. IE: go July 20-27 this year with AP and use it again next year from July 12-19. Don't renew but buy new ones in July 2016 and do the same (go July 24-31 and then July 16-23 in 2017). My SIL does that.

I think the special PAP has to be activated by the end of Jan. 2015. Your hubby will need to activate by then.

I thought it was 12/31/15???? If it's Jan then we'll just get him hoppers in Aug 2015.
ETA: looks like edk was correct and it must be activated by 1/31/15. Good to know. DH will likely just get hoppers for trip in 8/15.

I sent you a PM about this.

To answer the OPs question- we use an AP by later trip first year, earlier trip the second.... use up all possible DVC points. Take a year off, then either start the AP system over, or use some other tickets.
