For the Love of Epcot - DVCers, help me understand

I do agree with some of your comments. I think FutureWorld is in need of some updating. Theer is not much that screams "future" there anymore, like there was 15 years ago. I do not like that they tend to sometimes "update" things by including the latest character from the latest Disney movie (think Nemo at the Living Seas or Stitch at the Alien Encounter in the MK).

I think the Living Seas could use some serious updating. I think Ellen's Energy Adventure is still pretty good as is...but I find her hysterically funny, so I may be biased. I think The Land is still pretty good even without Soarin', and Soarin' will be a nice update to that. I like Test Tracka nd MIssion Space as is, I think the Wonders of Life could use some updating, but I think they should keep Cranium Command, because that is a very clever little attraction in there. I hate that they have Wonders of Life open seasonally....makes that side of FW seem a bit...barren when it's closed, and then Ellen doesn't get as much play, since it's stuck there in the corner beyond a generally closed attraction. Imagination...bioth the Journey and the movie, need to be updated...the movie before the ride, if they have to choose one over the other.

I love the World Showcase. Even though there is a lot of the same, I love the performers, I love the ambience of it. I absolutely ADORE it at night...I truly feel transported to all the different countries when I stroll through the WS at night. I love to sometimes just sit and peole watch when I am in the WS side. I find people fascinating.

The thing I love most about Epcot is the fact that I'm looking down on it right now as I'm typing this (and I'll have the same view every night for the next two weeks). :cool1:

If you have the means, I highly recommend Beach Club Villa #465 for an extended stay.

To me, Epcot IS WDW! I start and end most trips at Epcot, because it is comfortable, it feels like home! I'm one of those who doesn't like it to change TOO much. I loved the old Universe of motion, but I love Test Track too. I hated the "old" Universe of Energy exhibit, but I like Ellen's Energy Adventure. I LOVE Wonders of Life and think that Crannium Command is the best attraction in all of WDW! I am always sorry that it isn't open anymore when we are there, since we tend to travel in off seasons. I love Spaceship Earth, and will often ride it up to 6 or more times a trip! American Adventure and the Voices of Liberty are where we place our focus in WS. I start and end each trip there. Illuminations is another multiple attraction for me. I'll see it 3-4 times a trip! Yep, Epcot is a real favorite for us! I just wish they would keep things fresher than they have in the recent past.

I miss the old rides - Horizons, World of Motion - but hey there aint nothing wrong with the new ones.

change is the spicey of life!!!

Epcot will always be changing.

I just wish now that WDW guests are returning - that Wonders of Life would be open more - I guess it is because of Met Life problems.... It could be closed unless WDW gets another sponsor.

I look to take pictures here - the whole place just screams pictures!!!

Love the gardens - they are constantly changing. Invocations is changing.

I feel more peacefully here - it is so big - that even WDW guests can't over run it. You can spread out here.

I love Norway ride, Mexico ride is so - but the museum in Mexico is TOP notch!!! if you like history don't just go past this thing - like lots of guest do.

same with Norway, Morocco - they both have museum. give them a chance.

the museum stuff changes every year or two.

the people!!! they are just great! they also change every year or two.....

Any complaints from rooms 463 or 467 regarding the constant sound of cowbells emanating from your room? :teeth:

I think trying to explain the love of Epcot to a non-Epcot lover would be like my DD explaining to me why she loves to watch NASCAR on TV.

rr-rrrrr, rrr-rrrrr, rrrrr-rrr, vroom.........................

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Just don't get it

Good Analogy. Another analogy might be all of us here on this board.

1. We all GET Disney and WDW. We can't explain it to our non-Disney friends. You either GET it, or you don't.

2. On this forum, we all GET DVC. Wouldn't have it any other way. There are plenty who love Disney, but wouldn't think of leaving their hotel for DVC. We GET it, they don't.

3. Some of us really, really, really like Epcot. There is something about it that we just GET. Like items #1 and #2 above, we can't explain it. We only know it's there.

Others might GET MK, or one of the other parks. There's nothing wrong with GETTING one thing, or GETTING something else.

Reminds me of a problem we always had in manufacturing: How does one define the word QUALITY? In manufacturing and service industries, QUALITY is something to be attained. Companies spend $Thousands trying to attain it. But if you ask a customer to define QUALITY, they can't. Customers might mention things like design, workmanship, price, reliability, and such. But they don't really define the word QUALITY.

The best definition I ever saw was the title for a book:

QUALITY - I know it when I see it!

Epcot is the same. Why do we like it so much? You can't really define it. You just know it.

Just MHO

Thanks again for all your responses. I think it'll just take a little widening of my perspective and a few trips for me to get to the point where I'll need a BCV add-on. ;)

Caskbill: Regarding quality, I started thinking things from my old job writing manufacturing variation analysis & optimization software -- 6 sigma, GD&T, processes that are in control -- but my head 'sploded.

Be well!

So THAT's the sound I'm hearing in my office every day - the spontaneous combustion of my brain matter. As one still very mired in process technology and Six Sig, I feel your pain...

Hey, but wait a minute -- I come to the DIS to GET AWAY from all that quality Cpk Ppk mumbo jumbo stuff... Please, Caskbill, no more, I beg of you! Mention the "Q" word no more! Is nothing SACRED?!?

Nope, but I did go down and try to sit-in with Off Kilter this afternoon. Yeah, I thought it was going real well there for a minute, until they called security.

Where's Bruce Dickinson when you need him?

Rinkwide: when you tried to sit in, were you wearing a matching kilt? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ruh Roh Rink--Did you miss the post where I said you're supposed to have bicycle shorts underneath the kilt? :rotfl: :rotfl:

OK, but also forget 6-sigma. Let's talk 8-sigma. :teeth:

Fine. Next poll - Should retirees be allowed on the DVC board?

Oh, strike that. I forgot, you've go power now. :teeth:

Just watch it or I'll start asking you what hazardous materials were used in the process of making those long-lasting products, how they were handled, what VOCs were emitted and did any make it to the soil or groundwater. :rotfl:

DR T I DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING, but i think epcot is a great park to visit. i spend more time (and money) at epcot than any of the other parks.

JIMMIA: Boy, you really hit the nail on the head. I can't think of anything more enjoyable than casually walking around WS sampling food and drink at every country. R&C is definitely my favorite, and while it is pricey, I really enjoyed our meal at Alfredo's.

You make a lot of sense, especially considering that you are a Marlins fan! ;) (Heading off to the Cubs opener in a few hours).
