And I could not agree more. I liked Kerry right from the beginning. Edwards was not my choice for VP. I was rooting for Clark. But the moment Kerry/Edwards and families first appeared together on the lawn, I "knew" it was right. I have not felt this way about any politician since 1960. That is why I get so annoyed at those who try to say we have no candidate and are only ABB.

Thanks FaithInKarma...

I liked Clark too....

I saw John Edwards at a rally here....he is energized ...and enrgizing...

and as our VP...and "only a heartbeat away"...i feel comfortable with the choice...

We have the best candidate. He is the right man for the job.

And the right man for the job...John Kerry....will also put the right men & women in jobs in DC ...

Ashcroft, Ridge (home town boy too)
, Rumsfeld, Wolfiwiecz...and the list goes on....

can feel the "outsourcing" on them come Tuesday....

BTW....I couldn't believe it when Ridge said he was going back in the rivate sector....after all he said...he has 2 kids getting ready for College...and he ONLY makes $170,000 a year...

Gee Tom...did you forget what it's like here in the real world in Erie? Maybe you should pull some strings and get Michelle retrned to her old job at the library if you're having a tough time making ends meet on $170,000 a year....

let me add..I've met Tom Ridge many many times.... as a Congressman...a Governor...and Homeland Secretary...

and....I will say exactly that when I see him next.....

Maray, Thanks so much for posting this. I have a feeling a lot of people will need the info on Tuesday.

I'm driving voters and canvassers on election day, also. Go Kerry!!!

Thanks to everyone who's volunteering on Tues. Unfortunatly I have to teach class that day, but I'll be reminding all of my 170 students to vote. (I always tell my students that I don't care how they vote just that they exercise their right.) I've also written a lecture/class discussion on the intersections between American art and politics to motivate them even further.

BTW- I went to the TX book festival today and heard a lecture on the state of the arts in America. It was attended by a bunch of Bush nominees- officials from the NEA, NEH, and Institute of Museums and Libraries. It was really frustrating to hear them use the language of progressive education when their administration has done its best to demonize education professionals. All I could think was "Tuesday night, you folks will be drafting letters of resignation- goodbye."

I hope you don't mind if I bring us off topic. I heard today via email from my nephew, Chris, (USMC, Iraq) that his platoon will soon be on the move into even more hazardous duty. I would like to ask each of you to pray or send positive energy or keep a good thought for Chris, all the troops in harms way and for the Iraqi people in the specific area of Iraq where a large military operation will soon take place. Chris is a wonderful young man who felt at 23 that he needed to challenge himself and earn money for college by joining the USMC.

I am married to an "old Marine" who is disabled due to his service in Vietnam. We live each day with the cost of that war, I won't even begin to tell you what I know about that. I ache for the suffering that this war has and is causing so many Americans and Iraqis.

Please let this end soon!

I will be thinking of your nephew.

I had heard that they are going full force into falluja this weekend.

I too hope this ends soon.
:worried:

I just finished my ''get out and vote'' phone call list! Hurray!!

I have to say.. I was calling the Registered Dems in my county who did not vote in the last election. I found that all of the people I called intended to vote on Nov. 2...if they had not done an absentee ballot already.

Out of 275 phone calls made.. only one hang up, and only one rude lady .. who really was not so rude but told me she is not supporting Mr. Kerry.

So.... I figure that is very, very good.

I also wanted to just say... I don't understand how people can be be so mean...... just because your political views differ does not give you license to be insulting, rude or cruel.

If John Kerry does not win on Tuesday, I will be sad and afraid.. but I will not bash Mr. Bush, nor his backers.

If John Kerry DOES win on Tuesday, I will be overjoyed, but I will not belittle Mr. Bush nor his backers.

I am not a goody two shoes.. I am just sick to death of seeing insults hurting people.

I'll be keeping your nephew Chris...and all the service men and women....in my prayers CrazyForGoofy....

May God watch over them all....

Hi MamaJoan.....Great job...with even greater resuts!

On to a Kerry/Edwards victory on Tuesday!

I really admire the Marines. They are placed in some tough situations and many of their families really pay a high price. My DH's cousin is in the Marines and served 6 monthes in Iraq- we saw him recently and he wouldn't talk about it. We're glad he's stateside for the moment.

Best of luck to your nephew, and thanks to your family for their service.

I agree.

I'm highly in favor of wide sweeping election reform. As we crawl into the 21st century, there should be no reason for voting in one part of a state to differ from another part. I believe that you should show proof of citizenship when you come of voting age in order to register and if your registration has lapsed. It's interesting that millions and millions and millions of secure computer based paperless transactions go on with barely a problem but we can't come up with an easy to use (BTW, I really like the Fisher Price voting machine) electronic system that's quick and secure.

(butting out now....)
Good point, our process needs to be improved. I am not in favor of moving away from the electoral college. Our leaders should not be elected by a few large cities.

Exactly. He has had to at least keep his extremist policies in check for the first term, but without the threat of not being re-elected, there's nothing to stop him.

Imagine if he gets the chance to put a couple of anti choice, anti-gay rights activists on the supreme court...it's frightening.

There was a story in this morning's paper concerning what happens to gay couples. This couple, two men, have been in a committed relationship for 20 years, both in their 60's. They lived in a rural area on a large, rather expensive ranch.

The ranch and home were only in one of their names and he died. He had given it to his partner in his will, and he had no close relatives...no parents, siblings or children. Still, he had 2 cousins who challenged the will and won. The judge ordered the estate to be turned over to them.

The surviving partner has appealed, but has been turned down and now has submitted his case to the supreme court. It is considered doubtful that they will hear the case.

So, here is a man, in his 60's who is literally being thrown out on the street. It's very sad and for the life of me, I don't know why anyone would think this was fair.

If gay couples could have the rights of married couples, this would never happen. What would be so evil about that? Maybe Bush could explain to this man why he's not equal to everyone else.

Bush can explain it very easlily. He needs the religious right so he panders to them and men like that man lose their homes. Simple.

Bush is in favor of civil unions to provide benefits. He is opposed to gay marriage. Civil unions would have solved the problem you describe above. John Kerry is also opposed to gay marriage. Perhaps you could explain you need to distort the issues to the point of making false statements.

This is a dishonest representation of Bush's stance on this issue compared to Kerry's stance. Both men are against gay marriage.

My friend's son is also a Marine outside Falluja. We haven't heard from Justin because he's been on some sort of patrol. Justin is 22 and we hope to see him home soon.

I'll remember your Chris in my prayers. Please remember my Justin. :)
