Anyone who lives in Luzerne or Monroe County(District 18) in PA, please vote for Democrat Tom Tigue for State Representative!

I have not seen the Austin Lounge Lizards in person, but constantly hear of them. Since having kids, we don't get out much.....

I'll have to listen for them on NPR.

I've seen their concerts in St. Louis and Madison, WI. They are so much fun! My sister had a LL fansite just for fun for a while and became pals with Conrad. They invited us to "sit in" on a radio interview and performance after a concert in St. Louis a few years ago. We brought doughnuts and got to watch them perform close up. It was great.

man...sure did not take long...why are you here trying to stir up trouble may I ask?

Because their thread is boring!! The only reason it stays alive is because someone gives it an artificial bump every once in a while.

The best thing about this thread is that it finally proved that all the Republicans want to is fight and argue.

I have to say that all the holier than thou talk going on about how awful some of us are for saying that we won't support bush is sickening!

Excuse me...did we forget the way President Clinton was treated when he was in office? The Republicans wrote the book on being disrespectful and non supportive of the President. Now that their boy is in office (but not for long) all of a sudden they want to conveniently forget their behavior.

Not a chance in hell...Tell ya' what, put Kerry in office, support him fully no matter what decisions he makes and when you finally get a Republican back in office I'll do the same in return.

They have quite a following locally, as you might expect. Maybe I'll try to get my DH tickets to a concert for X-mas...he's been wanting to go for a year.

Back to TX and Kerry...they reported averages on early voting in TX last night on the news. So far, Kerry has 37%, way more than people were predicting from Bush Country. Yeah, we're still a red state, but we've got some blue in our heart and soul!

Did I just paint myself a "leftie" alongside PG, LoraJ, and others?

We're all painted so left now that when we have our Disney meet we won't even be able to walk down the right side of Main Street USA ;)

Man, you take a couple of hours off and it takes a while to catch up here. Looks like our ranks are growing all the time. Yea for us.

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: peachgirl, I bow down before you. That is exactly what's happened. I wonder if you'll get any pledges from the right.

Left side it is! I can do it.

Yep, suddenly "we" are everywhere. Great, isn't it.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that many of you have not taken part in any of the political threads very much.

I don't think you are wrong. I have said that to my DH in the past. Not about the DIS but about other message boards and polls. I think Kerry supporters are just blown away by all the hot air Bush supporters have....I really do.
Kerry supporters seem to have a quiet confidence about them. When GW is redeafeted he is going to be just as shocked as his mom was when senior lost re election. Barbara was sure sr. Bush would win re election.

but it seems to me that many of you have not taken part in any of the political threads very much.

I haven't really participated much, did this a.m. a bit. I have found in talking with some republican friends/coworkers, and in reading some political threads here, that it's a waste of time and incredibly frustrating. In my real life experiences, I really don't get too many words in as if, if they paused long enough to allow me to make a comment (and I better have links or a bibliography with me) then they might have to hear some truth they don't want to hear . I get so frustrated with the close mindedness. I look at the issues, I look at the records, I look at the number of people who have died, DIED due to this administration, and I can't figure out why some people can't see how dangerous this administration is. It's not just about Iraq, it's also about the environment, it's also about education, it's also about equal rights, it's also about women's rights, it' not just about how big a tax cut I get, it's about the future for our children.

Another thing that scares the crap out of me is what shape we'll be in if Bush win's and has four years unchecked because he doesn't have to worry about re-election.

I'm sick of the non-stop bashing of Kerry while hearing "you must support the president because he's the president" - the "if you don't support the war you don't support the troops or the country" type of guilt trips they try to lay on you. So I've avoided it.

I have always been proud to be an American - less so in the past few years, but I look forward to being proud sometime soon I hope.

boy, did this response turn into a ramble....

ByTheSea, I agree with you! I can't believe how impossible it is to even discuss the issues with so many Bush supporters. Even my DH told me abruptly that talking about it won't change his mind. OK....

It's almost like it's threatening to many of them to really take a look at the issues and the man that they support. They don't want to take a peek behind that curtain to see what's really there.

Let me qualify this by saying that not ALL Bush supporters are like this but way too many are.

Well said, Peach Girl! I am constantly amazed at how narrow minded some people are. What is more democratic than being able to voice your opinion, even if that means criticizing the government, and your right to vote for whomever you want to? Aren't those the principals our Founding Fathers based the Constitution on?

I'm very concerned about the coming election and people being denied their right to vote. I've heard the argument that they don't want people to vote "illegally," but I haven't heard of that being a problem since the 60s or 70s. I know there were a lot of problems in the last election, but did a lot of people vote illegally? Did I miss something? To me, it just sounds like people, especially in low income, high minority areas, are being intimidated NOT to vote. How can Bush talk about how great it is that Iraq will have a free election when American citizens are being denied their right to vote?

(sorry to butt in...)

I agree.

I'm highly in favor of wide sweeping election reform. As we crawl into the 21st century, there should be no reason for voting in one part of a state to differ from another part. I believe that you should show proof of citizenship when you come of voting age in order to register and if your registration has lapsed. It's interesting that millions and millions and millions of secure computer based paperless transactions go on with barely a problem but we can't come up with an easy to use (BTW, I really like the Fisher Price voting machine) electronic system that's quick and secure.

(butting out now....)

Another thing that scares the crap out of me is what shape we'll be in if Bush win's and has four years unchecked because he doesn't have to worry about re-election.

Exactly. He has had to at least keep his extremist policies in check for the first term, but without the threat of not being re-elected, there's nothing to stop him.

Imagine if he gets the chance to put a couple of anti choice, anti-gay rights activists on the supreme court...it's frightening.

There was a story in this morning's paper concerning what happens to gay couples. This couple, two men, have been in a committed relationship for 20 years, both in their 60's. They lived in a rural area on a large, rather expensive ranch.

The ranch and home were only in one of their names and he died. He had given it to his partner in his will, and he had no close relatives...no parents, siblings or children. Still, he had 2 cousins who challenged the will and won. The judge ordered the estate to be turned over to them.

The surviving partner has appealed, but has been turned down and now has submitted his case to the supreme court. It is considered doubtful that they will hear the case.

So, here is a man, in his 60's who is literally being thrown out on the street. It's very sad and for the life of me, I don't know why anyone would think this was fair.

If gay couples could have the rights of married couples, this would never happen. What would be so evil about that? Maybe Bush could explain to this man why he's not equal to everyone else.

Subject: Priceless!!

Terry L. Pence - State of Washington

Last Thursday I put out one of my Bush/Cheney signs in my
front yard. Between midnight and 3:00 a.m. someone stole it.
On Friday night I put out sign No. 2. Since I didn't have to get
up early, I thought my dog and I would "stake out" our sign. This
time I put the sign a little closer to the gate leading to my
backyard. With my dog on an extra long leash, I planted myself
on a lawn chair and read "Unfit for Command" by flashlight until
about 1:00 a.m. Here comes the fun part . . I noticed that the car
coming down the street was slowing down and pulling over
to the curb right next to my yard. Sure enough, he gets out of his
car and heads right for my sign. Just as he was about to uproot
and desecrate it, I opened my gate and let my dog make the
initial introduction! As he ran to hide behind the rear end of his
car, I promptly moved to the driver-side door, which was still
open. It was a fairly nice car with power everything and still
running. While my dog continued to "introduce" herself, I rolled
up the window and hit the power door lock button. With that, I
slammed the door, grabbed my Bush sign and headed into the
back yard.

And now for the "rest of the story." About 40 minutes later, I
heard a knock at the door. I opened the door to one of our
city's finest . . . the Vancouver Police Department. The officer
asked me what was going on and when I told him, he could not
stop laughing! I followed him out to the perp's car and stood
there while he asked the guy a few more questions. Upon
learning that the guy lived a couple of streets down, I -- knowing
what was about to happen -- asked him, "Why do you have
Oregon plates on your car if you live just down the street (here
in Vancouver, Wash.)?" You see, Larry, Oregon has no sales tax, Washington residents will often buy and register cars in Oregon
to avoid paying sales tax . . . it's a crime and the fine is pretty
stiff. Here comes the best part. . . . The look on this guy's face
told me he knew he was about to get busted. When the officer
asked for his license and registration, the "Democrat" mumbled
that (his license) was suspended. Then, just for kicks and giggles

I asked the officer if he smelled any alcohol coming from the guy!
The officer looked at me, smiled and promptly gave him a field
breathalyzer test. Guess what? You got it, he blew a 10, legally
drunk in the state of Washington.

DUI; over $5,000 plus the insurance hit.

Illegal registration; 7.6% of the car's value, plus a $500 fine.

DWS, (on top of DWI), around a thousand.

Being branded as a "MORON," all 'cause he hates Bush....

PRICELESS!!!!!
Funny story.

These people simply disgust me

"We want people to think 'terrorism' for the last four days," said a Bush-Cheney campaign official. "And anything that raises the issue in people's minds is good for us."

A senior GOP strategist added, "anything that makes people nervous about their personal safety helps Bush."

He called it "a little gift," saying it helps the President but doesn't guarantee his reelection."

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/247753p-212149c.html

What kind of crazy upside down world are we living in? This evil man is free to sit before a camera and taunt us with his existence because Bush did not "smoke him out", because Bush allowed him to "run and hide". And now the Bush campaign are gleefully gloating at Bin Laden's appearance? People like that make me ashamed to be of the same species.

DW is carpooling Dems without transportation on election day. We're looking forward to this day. Hopefully, it's a new start for our country.

What wonderful news that OBL is still free to threaten this country. This little war of bush's is quite a bonanza for him, isn't it?

Maybe that explains why bush hasn't gotten OBL yet. If he had really taken care of business, perhaps those who want to run and hide under the covers would feel a little safer and then where would bush be?

And they wonder why many people think he's evil.

I'm Osama bin Laden and I Approve of This Message

Ooops: He's alive. And he's condemning Bush. Which of course means that he wants Kerry to win. Unless he really wants Bush to win and is just by default endorsing Kerry in order to get people to vote for Bush out of spite. But then again, if we're smart enough to figure that out, then maybe Osama knows that, too and he really wants Kerry to win, and is endorsing Kerry so that people will at first learn toward voting for Bush but then think that's what Osama wants. . . So confusing. Clearly, we've fallen for one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is: "Never get involved in a land war in Asia"; but only slightly less well known is this: "Do not read about goats when death is on the line."

http://www.wonkette.com/archives/im-osama-bin-laden-and-i-approve-of-this-message-024566.php

This is kind of how I feel...if he was trying to influence the election, then could he maybe have been a bit clearer? His tape leaves so much room for interpretation, it should have little effect. Which makes you wonder why it was released days before the election.
