For fellow Canadian DVC'ers - tips for points

Figured I post here first before I post on the the DVC boards. Any other Canadian DVC'ers thinking about what to do with their points?

The situation I am in is:
1. Home resort is Animal Kingdom villas, October use year
2. I have 107 2019 points that are banked, and have to be used by Sept 30, 2021.
2. I have 160 points that have to be banked by May 31, 2021 (and then used by Sept 30, 2022) or used by Sept 30, 2021 if not banked, and the full allotment of points the following years.

In the past I had rented out to a DVC rental company (I guess I can't list names here, but it has a common first name) and within 1 day of offering them I got requests to book. I had offered my points to the same company in August and I haven't heard anything since. The company itself is still in business and has confirmed they have my points in the queue. I realize travel is the last thing on people's minds right now - I'm guessing that is the main reason my points have not been rented.

Due to a number of reasons, including uncertainty about our ability to travel and an inability to travel to Fla this summer for personal/work reasons, booking our own trip to Disney isn't in the cards. However I really don't want to lose out on those 107 points that expire the end of Sept 2021.

Questions for you:

1. Should try other rental companies? The one affiliated with this site says on its site that will accept rentals from US residents only. I haven't posted enough the past 6 months to be able to post a rental thread on disboards (unless I pay the fee).
2. Rather than rent points, may be I should rent out a dedicated stay? If so, which ones (resorts, room type, time of year, duration) would be most easy to rent? For reference, as of today I can book Animal Kingdom Villas up until Oct 21, 2021, and all the others up until June 21, 2021.
3. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I’d bank what you can if you are sure you won’t travel. As for the 107, I’d be prepared to lose them. Over the course of a fifty year contract, losing the 107 isn’t the end of the world. The rental market is flooded with points right now.

you could put those 107 into rci to prolong their life another two years. I find the rci properties do not appeal at all to me.

Thanks. Any thoughts about booking a dedicated stay, and maybe renting that out? If so, would need to be a booking that would appeal to people.

We are in a similar spot as you. We have 103 banked 2020 points that will expire in Feb 2022. I can’t imagine we will be going before then. We also listed ours this summer and haven’t heard a peep. I’m likely going to pull our contract and see if I can rent them here. If I’m reading it right, if you’ve had your user for more than 6 months, the cost is pretty low ($24.95) for the year. Better to spend that vs losing the points if you can rent them.

I am in a similar situation (different resorts and UY). I was told rental is slow by the rental companies so I'm trying here. Hoping someone can use them because I suspect we are not going to be able to visit until late next year at the earliest with the current situation. I paid for the membership.

Another Cdn in the same boat - 167 points that will expire at the end of July 2021. Might just firesale them on disboards - sell them cheap, but no refunds under any circumstances.

There are thousands of dedicated stays that people are trying to rent out. You could try, but realistically you’re going to have to be okay with losing those points. I’d choose a shorter stay in a highly sought after resort—Bay Lake tower theme park view, Grand Floridian, maybe a cabin at Copper Creek. Try an in demand time—fourth of July, President’s Week, Nee Years.

same boat here. only have 59 banked but figure they will be lost unless something changes before the summer heat comes in Florida

Same boat here,,,,:boat:
I have a dedicated reservation listed but not sure it will rent.
I did book for a traditionally busy time but who knows.
best wishes

Luckily we are able to bank our points into 2022. But in the past I have rented out via the site you mentioned as well as a FB group. Both were equally easy. I made more money on the FB group.

I had received confirmation of someone who agreed to rent our points through Davids but my wife didn't want to let the points go, so instead we are heading there Dec 27 for 4 nights to use up the points before they expire at the end of January. Its our 20th anniversary so that will be nice. We bought new annual passes but we think we may just do a resort stay instead of going in the parks.

I would either look to rent them on here or on a FB group. There is still plenty of demand for points especially if you are offering them at discounted rates. That far out you could still probably get $14-15/pt.

Agree with renting on the disboards. I am Canadian and had 39 points expiring in a few months. The rest I have some time to see where COVID/borders/etc land - hoping for a trip later in 2021 but we'll see. I listed my points at $15, thinking I might put them into RCI if I couldn't get a decent price. They went pretty quick! You would have no problem if you list for $14 or less. Don't bank your 2021 points until the deadline, in case you have to supplement your expiring points for a rental reservation for more points than you have expiring. I think listing points is better than a dedicated rental, you never know what people want. BTW to deposit points into RCI you need to do it in increments of 10, and then they are good for 2 years. I looked, and there wasn't anything in RCI worth 40 points that appealed to me. It seemed like a lot of work to keep searching RCI or wondering what would come up between now and Dec 2022. Good luck!

We have 98 points expiring at the end of February 2021. I have offered them to a friend of mine who lives in the US. I can't be bothered to rent them out so hopefully she can use them (I am not going to charge her anything).

I agree with a prior poster to bank what you know you won't be using. I suppose you could set up a tickler/calendar reminder to bank prior to the deadline, but what if you forget?

Rent the others that need to be used by 2021. You can rent here or elsewhere. Cheaper points will go quicker. There are literally thousands of points rentals into October 2021 right now on the 2 or 3 major brokers.

Fortunately, we have been living on borrowed points year after year, so this year allows us to "catch up" without fear of losing points. If we don't go in 2021, I can bank everything, although that will leave us with a lot of points for 2022 which we probably won't be able to use, so we'll be in the perpetual banking mode after that.

I would try Facebook. There is a pretty active group there. You won't get a premium price, but you will probably be able to rent them out and not have to throw away points. The name of the group is DVC Member Point Exchange and Rental

Hi everyone. Looking for some advice please. We recently acquired a GF DVC contract; it's our first DVC contract.

We have 140 banked points that expire on March 1 2021.

For those who have rented points on this board, and live in Canada: what's the easiest (hassle free) method to obtain funds from a person who rents from you?

Do you recommend using PayPal? or what other transaction method do you recommend? Any tips associated with using Paypal or other transaction method would be appreciated.

Thank you for your advice.
