? for Annual Passholders!

I am considering purchasing an annual pass for room discount only as I plan on traveling in December 2006 and again in May 2006. I have read the limited info on the WDW website and it states one of the benefits are "periodic" room discounts. Periodic to me means once in a while, not guaranteed. So, to those who hold the annual pass, are discounts usually available in early December and early May? How are your choices of resorts, is it limited? Can you give me an example, what is the Poly per night May 1-May 6 ? I don't want to purchase this pass if I am unable to get the room discounts!

I wouldn't purchase the pass solely for this reason unless I was sure that the discounts were already available. These discounts are unpredictable, and are usually available no more than 3 months in advance. The discount for 2/16/06 through 4/13/06 is an attractive $133 per night at Deluxe, but that doesn't answer your May question. I guess the next set of discounts hasn't been released yet.

Not to mention, with all the complaining about Best Rate, with our luck Disney will start giving discounts like the AP site says...."periodically". As an AP holder, I didn't mind the Best Rate program. Now I worry that when it comes time for my trip in July, they won't release AP room discounts. At least I won't have to buy a park pass.

It always says periodic and yes that does mean they are not guaranteed. There were a few weeks in October that I remember very well that there were no AP discounts.

How many days total are you going? If its more than 10 or so it would probably be worth getting them anyway. Also i've seen very few times when I couldn't get a passholder rate, and those were only because I waited to long to try to book.

We are DVC and use the AP rates on Friday and Saturday a lot. Besides it lets us stay at the other resorts.

As an AP holder that always goes in Dec and May, yes you get the discounts but you have to jump quick on them......I check the website every day to see when new dates are released. I am also a FL resident so if the AP discounted rooms are sold out I can try to get a FL resident discount. A reservationist told me the discounts are exactly the same but only a certain number of rooms are set aside for AP holders and a certain number of rooms for FL residents. When they are sold out that is it, no more. I have also been lucky enough to book a last minute trip and get some type of discount...

We've never gone a time where there wasn't a discount and we generally go for two weeks in May. We're hoping to make a second trip in December. Our AP has saved us hundreds of dollars. Well worth it.
