Attention GPS users: Does anyone utilize the doppler weather feature on your GPS unit (if available)?

Driving over 1,000 miles one way (and many hours in the dark) to WDW covers lots of weather change areas. It seems that a GPS with such a feature would prrovide important traveling info.

Any comments/answers on this previous question? :confused3

What is the average price to park in the theme park lots? We are considering staying off site and I need to weight the pros and cons.

Thanks if anyone knows or knows where to find that info. I did a brief search on here, and I stress brief.

$14 a day for regular-sized vehicles.

Does anyone have any current hotels to recommend in Brunswick/Kingsland area that are clean but not super expensive?
thanks!

We are staying at the Comfort Suites in Kingsland, never been before, but the reviews look good, so we thought we would give it a shot. We got 2 queens for $71.00 w/ military discount, without I think it was $77.00.

Disney Hess regular: $2.49 a gallon.

We filled up on 6/4/10 for $2.59.

All the best!

We are staying here too, but our total was about $102 with tax, but it is a weekend night (which is usually more) and we have 5 people in the room - we have 2 queens and a pull out sofa bed. I have never stayed but it got very good reviews on tripadvisor!:woohoo:

We haven't stayed yet but I booked the Comfort Suites in Brunswick. I do the non refundable one. We leave early enough to be able to get down there by around 4pm if everything goes smoothly. So even if we have some major delays we will be ok. We signed up for the choice program and I paid $86 for a 2 queen suite with sleeper for our family of 5 with taxes. It got good reviews on travelocity and tripadvisor.

I have never seen a GPS with that feature. I have been looking into Garmin & TomTom and none of the models I looked at had anything about weather. Many do have traffic reports. And of course the TomTom, for a fee, will speak in Darth Vaders voice....

We don't have an external GPS, however we do pay for Sirius Travel Link for our built in navigation units. Not only does it have the traffic updates, but weather/radar maps and forecasts, along with nearby gas prices.

My GPS doesn't have weather or traffic updates... (actually its getting a tad out of date... I have had it for 2 years now and I think it was a bit of an older model then...) But I love the feature of changing the voices.. I have Darth Vader, Yoda, and C3PO... not the pay versions, they are free versions. I can't find one, but I would pay to get a Mickey voice!!

Thinking about driving to disney for the first time in august. Would you do it with 3 young children from long island ny?

Hey MLC,

You know your kids better than anyone. In 2008 I drove down with 2 children. They were 8 and 5. They did great. We did stop overnight twice though on the way there and once on the way back. This time i am driving down with 5 children ages 7, 9, 9, 11, and 12. We are not staying overnight anywhere.
If you think your kids will be fine than I would go for it. It saves alot of money on sirfare.

We've gone twice now from Indiana (17 hours) with our children, last time they were 4 and 1.5. It went really awesome. I would strongly suggest driving at night as much as possible - sleeping kids are the best kind. This year, we are taking our 2 plus their 6 year old cousin. I don't expect to have any problems. Ipods, DS', etc etc really seem to keep their attention even over that huge span. But, as pp said, only you know your kids and if you could do it or not. I know of some kids personally that I wouldn't travel 17 minutes with, let alone 17 hours!!!

Thanks for your comments. One of our vehicles will probably be replaced this autumn and, no doubt, the vehicle will come with a GPS unit. We were considering an upgrade to one that included real-time doppler...if such a device exists.

All the best.

I had asked about a hotel off 95 in Brunswick or Kingsland..just want to mention that I read up on Priceline and saw someone got the Courtyard in Brunswick (3 star) for $50 so bid that and got it. I think its $63 with tax and fees. Looks nice and much better than the Jameson Inn we have gotten the last few times for cheaper (2 star)

This is for one night June 24th if anyone else is looking around that time

I've driven from LI with one young child repeatedly. As previous posters said, you know your children better than anyone... but my own really enjoyed the journey. We stop frequently, though, and don't really try to "make time" (unless she falls asleep).

Do most of you book a hotel to stay over(on the drive down) before you leave? Anybody wing it?

I am an OCD type planner,:rolleyes1 so when I started to look for hotels to stay on the trip down, my family/friends were like "dont book anything, we can stop where we stop, we will find something It will be ok" :headache:

Really??? So what do guys all say? We are coming from Pittsburgh PA, planning on leaving late at night to drive thru the night, part of the day then stop.
That give us the afternoon/evening to relax then hit the road early in the am and drive thru to WDW.:goodvibes

I'm thinking maybe Georgia to stop and stay?

I am an OCD planner as well and I do not think I would be able to start my trek to WDW without knowing where I was stopping WITH reservations made. I have visions in my head of being dead dog tired after a whole day of travels and not finding anything decent, affordable AND available. That is just me.
